OPENING GIFTS IS THE BEST CONVALESCENCE!

This week we open gifts on my bed, as I'm still resting after my little hospital visit last week. It turns out to be a very restorative experience - I can thoroughly recommend gift opening as healthy and medicinal! We receive thoughtful and unusual gifts that will embellish the chateau and make the woods much more magical...
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. KZhead earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634
August 2020:
Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350
September 2020:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255
October 2020:
Medecins sans Frontieres (chosen by my mother to support vaccinations in Africa) €942 (equivalent to 426 cholera vaccinations)
November & December 2020 & Jan & Feb 2021:
A Lalande Fashion Scholarship for a student at the Villioti Fashion Institute in South Africa €5500
March 2021:
Suffolk Artlink (amount to be confirmed at the beginning of April)
I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching 'The Chateau Diaries' gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us, and that by monetising this channel for charity we can pass on that joy to others 💖💖💖
If you would like to see more of our life at the chateau, please go to our main 'Chateau Diaries' channel:
/ thechateaudiaries

  • To Philip who wanted a mouse... sounds like the start of a beautiful storybook 🐀❣

    @Heidieqx@Heidieqx3 жыл бұрын
    • Lets start a story for Philip. Add a sentance or two toward ‘s the story. So Philip wanted a mouse. He wanted it for sooo long. Why would you want a mouse? A mouse is wriggly and has a long tail thats like a worm and they smell. But although Philip all knew that, he still wanted a mouse. He asked his mum. ‘ Mum,can I have a mouse? They are so cute ?’ But his mum did’nt think that that was a good idea! I know you Philip, next week you are off to LaLande and who will have to take care of your mouse? The following week Philip took his car and indeed travelled to La Lande. He thought as La Lande had lots of land around he for sur would be able to get a mouse! But the chatelaine of LaLande said no, Philip you can’t have a mouse. A mouse is creepy and smelly and they hide in place where you will never found it again. Philip was not amused. He was so sure he would be able to have a mouse in LaLande! Why did nobody wanted him to have a mouse? ( please add a few lines to this start of the story Philip want a mouse)

      @nicolethijs5428@nicolethijs54283 жыл бұрын
    • @@nicolethijs5428 Philip wondered, why would it be so bad having a tiny little mouse? After all, they were very small and would not take up much room, and they couldn't possibly eat very much so would not require much food. Philip pondered what he could do to convince the chatelaine to let him have a mouse. So he took the workshop to ask the wise Selmar, why would it be a bad thing to have a mouse? Selmar in his kind calming voice said, "my fellow Dutchman, mice and cats don't mix well and I think your harmless mouse might be in danger around our lovely Ruby"....

      @Heidieqx@Heidieqx3 жыл бұрын
    • @@Heidieqx That was a good point of course but Philip was not convinced that that was reason enough not to have a mouse! He went to Dan, the gardener and asked him. Dan, can I have a mouse! Dan looked at him in bewilderment. A mouse?! Do you want a mouse? I don’t understand. Mice eat my vegetables and I am trying everything to get rid of them in the garden! No, Philip you can’t have a mouse! But, Dan, I would keep him out of the garden and have him in a cage in my room!

  • Diane's gift of the tablecloth reminded me of the type of embroidery. My sister loved this type. It is 'Richelieu' and includes 'cut work'. A technique that dates back to the medieval times. Richelieu is one that shines on white, écru, and off white colored fabrics. It is rarely used for colored fabrics except with machine embroidery that attempts to imitate it but never duplicates it. The Richelieu embroidery style became famous due to the well-known French Cardinal de Richelieu in the 14th century. He loved the embroidery so much that he had artisans and seamstresses working night and day to complete the surplice and other religious vestments sewn for him. Since then, this type of embroidery has been known to mark the prestige of a family and was often a piece de resistance in a young girl's wedding 'trousseau'. To give an idea of how long it takes to make just the napkins, each pattern has to be embroidered with the 'satin stitch' before the fabric is 'cut' away from the center. Once it is, then the satin stitch is again stitched around the edge (like a zigzag stitch) to keep the cotton, fine linen or raw silk fabric from fraying. One of the napkins here would normally take a minimum of 10 hours to complete just a corner, working continuously. You can imagine just how many hours have gone into stitching the tablecloth you have received. Nowadays, Richelieu embroidered tablecloths are still expensive, especially those that are hand stitched. The larger it is, the more details and cutwork it has, the more expensive it is. That tablecloth looks to be écru cotton and will need pressing. A tip: always put the embroidery upside down on a humid thick towel. When you iron, use the pointed tip of the iron and steam to iron out the wrinkles. This way the fabric can be ironed out and the pattern stands out.

  • Just a simple correction....Don Julio is pronounced “Hoolio”. The J is pronounced like an H. And sipping it is the best! If you want a citrus, use a slice of orange (I prefer tangerine) instead of lime. The orange enhances the flavor much better. Simple advice from a south Texas girl who only drinks Don Julio as a tequila choice. 🙂

  • How exciting to know this month’s proceeds from “Unwrapped “ will be going to the Suffolk Art Link school. I really love the art that was sent and I think Philip is correct that “Be Weird” would make a fantastic T-shirt. I would love to have one. I know there’s so much going on at the chateau, but being able to purchase items made specifically for or by Chateau de la Lande would be wonderful. There are so many artists that have sent such beautiful items and I hope some day for some sort of collaboration, where many can benefit. I know I would be very interested in buying items from such a venture

  • This type of beige tablecloth embroidery is called Madeira because they are made on the island of Madeira. It is high quality, and prized among collectors.

  • Enjoyed all the beautiful and thoughtful gifts you received. I like that your going to send a donation to the artists with special needs. I for 20 years owned and operated a Residential Care home here in the US, Actually 2 of them as well as my Mother owned one, My sister owned one and my Brother owned 2 and my niece owned 2. We worked tirelessly to ensure the needs of the residents were met as well as employed others for arts, Music and games. Very important. Love to all ❤. Continuing prayers for you Stephanie.

  • The tablecloth and napkins that Dianne gave you are almost identical to one that I inherited from my husband‘s grandmother that was her mother ‘s! I am not a very formal person, but my sister is so I gifted it to her a few Christmases ago and now every Christmas the table is set with great grandmother’s tablecloth and napkins! How exciting that you got one too! All of the gifts were so special. We have been so busy with a new grand baby that I am four Chateau Unwrapped’ behind. Just got caught up on Chateau Diaries. So glad to see you looking so well Stephanie. I am so appreciative that all the La Lande family is there to take care of you as well as you take care of them. Looking forward to the rest of the afternoon getting caught up. Much love from one of your patrons in Denton, TX.
