I walked up on this struggling buck in pools of his own blood after coyotes had attacked him and started eating him alive on the ice.

    • Not quite. Prey species like deer have a biological response that causes a massive release of dopamine to release into the brain when they are catastrophically wounded, it (usually) makes the final few moments of their life pass mostly pain free when being killed by a predator. However, in this case, the deer may have possibly been alive for a couple hours after being mauled and the dopamine would definitely have worn off by then, so it is possible I suppose that it was in terrible pain at that point.. depends basically how long it was left there bleeding.

      @Hathur@Hathur Жыл бұрын
    • how should they put it out of its misery? Hmm? How? Shooot it? What if They dont own the tools needed. Sooo what? A chainsaw? Too risky. Knife? Too risky as well. Perhaps sharper a shovel? But most likely a pole saw. The kind for trimming tree branches. Basically a small chainsaw on a long pole. This is what these “babies” would have to use. At least partially. >> The initial thought was that sawing the neck but while discussing cutting from throat side or the spine, one companion said the antlers dont feel pain so the antlers it was. Hoping the deer would bleed out from sawing them off. This was wild at first and the deer face, eye, ear and such were hit by accident as it thrashed. Despite severing an ear, eye and exposing the skull it didnt bleed like hoped while gone retrieving a different tool/cutting device. Its essentially the same thing but its like a combo of a saw and a garden shear. You’ve probably see. It. It grabs around the branch and saws through it. With this the antlers were easily severed and he didnt thrash. Once the antlers were removed more discussion. It was decided that one person would chop the head off as they said it would be fastest and they had cut easily through numerous “ reed matts “? Which are much harder they said. Well this turned out to be really bad as the deer moved as they swung striking the deer in the face wish cut through the end of it muzzle? Nearly all ghe way a Couple inches back from the nose. So it was hangin off. At this point. Everyone took off as it was too painful to view and but mostly this horrible sound the deer was wouldnt stop making was too much. But then went back as the idea of drowning being peaceful came up and they had the stiff to cut through the ice so figured cut around it and it would go under peacfully and the cold water would numb the pain. …….unfortunately the battery ran out and the off brand ryobi battery that was full wouldnt work (later realized that it need to have a covering taken off due to being new but i dont think it would have been enough to finished maybe. It was dark by this time so they left. When returned in the morning the deer was gone and it appear to have broke through the ice after all which was a relief but them when we got closer it looked like the deer had gone theough the ice but then something drug it to the side of the lake amd killed it. You could see mext to the hole in the ice that their har been a struggle. But in the end just letting nature take its course seemed best. (ok so i know this cause it happened if you didnt fogire it out by now…… we did our best to put it down humanely but really nothing could be done for it )

Even the most out of shape lazy person could still walk many miles if they had to. One of the other animals that comes closer to our endurance are dogs, that’s a big part of why they’re our hunting companion of choice. I once saw one that was absolutely shredded, you could see one side of its complete rib cage, it looked like the things was rotting away, it layed in view outside of my grandmother's living room for about a week, than it just kinda got up, and walked off. About 2 weeks later a neighbor up the road smoked it with his truck, I knew it was the same one from his rack and the wounds that had healed up all over his body. I noticed one day it was gone and later a few weeks later I spoke to the people who lived in that area and they said they thought it was dead but it just kinda got up after a few days and sauntered off into the woods. That buck is still running around just fine, still ker was just cleaning house on my grandma's garden.

  • Deer are so resilient though. I once came across a deer who had been hit by a car. People were standing over him. His leg was broke and his eye was out. But he was breathing. I saw that and told everyone he would probably get up from there. Everyone said no way he's not getting up. Just then he sprang up and everyone ran. The buck went to the edge of the woods and laid down. A cop came out and shot him and said he will call the animal control to come get him. Later that night I came back out and he was still lying in the woods he looked right up at me. I got a friend and we brought a gun and shot him. He jumped up again and charged us. We did everything to put him out of his misery. He didn't want to die. I didn't want him to either. I wish I had left him alone. I just wanted to put him out if his misery. Not sure if he'd made it or not with a broken leg and an eye missing. Toughest animals I ever saw.

      @jarekmichel5113@jarekmichel5113 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jarekmichel5113 When someone says I’m sleeping in the doghouse they don’t literally mean sleeping in a dog house. Language is a human construct that has meanings applied to it. I guess my mistake here was assuming everyone knew what the statement “natural death” meant. A natural death in humans is also variable. A natural death can be a heart attack for an old person but unnatural if it happens in a young person. In a young persons case they’d label it a complication. You’re right, a natural death in the wild is vicious, and that’s literally the point I’m making. The people that say let them live naturally don’t realize that their ‘naturally’ and animals ‘naturally’ is not the same.

Lost some much blood the deers head is up and alert. I've personally hit a deer with a truck on the highway going 80mph, totaled a truck and guess what, the deer was still alive and kicking, broken back and all. They are tough animals. I have seen a deer loose an entire leg while a farmer was cutting his field and the deer jumped up and ran off, 3 legged and all. Seen deer in the wild dragging a leg, that had been injured, healed and lived on, dragging that useless leg like an extra tail. Don't troll the comments pretending you know what your talking about. Oh and coyotes go for the neck first once an animal is done they aren't going to try and eat intestines on a live deer let alone a buck so they can get gorged by an antler or break their jaw from getting kicked by a hoof. But if you'ld ever hunted something that wasn't on a video game you'ld know that.

    • Here in oregon I had a deer in my yard that was hit by a car and could barely stand on its own.. I called odfw to come out and put it down they told me they couldn't do that so I asked if I could and was told no... But what they could do is write me a ticket for putting it out of its misery... They told me to let mother nature take its course
