This is a science experiment made for educational purposes!
Clips of day by day chicken embryonic development in real time.
from day 3 through day 19 (death at day 19). Video clips taken on iPhone camera.
For days 18 & 19, clips were filmed from outside the incubator as the chicken was in a precarious state.

    • An egg, as in what birds and reptiles lay, has all the things needed to create a baby in it, humans among almost every other mammal require a steady stream of nourishment to develop, there has not been a way to do this artificially. Perhaps it is possible, but it is not something we will see in the "near future".

      @DrewPicklesTheDark@DrewPicklesTheDark4 жыл бұрын
    • DrewPicklesTheDark artificial placenta combine with the incubator. They hooked it up with the sheep fetus. I saw it like a year ago. Today artificial insemination technology has advanced so much that I think in near future we could see something like this done in mammals.

    • Educational all the same and it was so amazing to see how it would have been growing in the shell. What was it growing in like that? Looked like an ordinary plastic container. I’m shocked it lived this long and then two days before hatching it died was so sad. But next time at the end you could say what happened. I was here thinking it survived. Sad face now! Do you know or can think what went wrong?

      @micheler3011@micheler30116 жыл бұрын
    • i think it died because the hatch could not feel any love. usually they feel the mother chicks presence and since there is noone who truly is warming them, it died. and i think taking it out of the shell is another problem. its like with human beings when choosing c-section instead of normal labour: the baby misses the opportunity to feel its own body while passing the birth tunnel and to actually be welcomed to this world through self-decision. the hatch cannot feel its own body and one of the most important thing in its life is "cracking" the shell, which is similar to choosing to live.

      @SuKimm@SuKimm6 жыл бұрын
    • That would be pretty much difficult considering that a fetus would need an adequate supply of nutrients through the umbilical cord. The artificial uterus may not be a problem, but that one may be. Plus the amniotic sac is also attached to the placenta. Maybe transferring a fetus to an artificial womb is possible and then connecting the umbilical cord to a bypass machine for the supply of nutrients that are replicated. You see, developing an embryo in an artificial womb may not be possible because there would be no placenta for the umbilical cord to connect.

  • Why did it die? Is there any specific reason?

    @kgeraldine@kgeraldine6 жыл бұрын
    • we're not really sure why it died. we couldn't pinpoint one certain reason, but i guess it could have been a combination of things like light, rotation, contamination, lack of oxygen, etc....

      @SuKimm@SuKimm6 жыл бұрын
    • If you have opportunity - try again. set humidity~55-60%, temp.~37,9C. Your chic managed to get to day 19 so it's great success. Since day 18 you don't rotate the egg, so it's not the case. I assume, that the problem was with humidity and oxygen level inside the cup (not outside it). You should open the cup from time to time to give it fresh air and humidity inside the cup should be increased to 65-70%. Nevertheless - fantastic work. I see this whole process day-by-day by ovoscoping my eggs and now I can show my kids what I am watching each day :-)
