    • i do wish he had drawn out the tip some more instead of just cutting it with a chisel, but it isn't my knife, and the size is good. i just prefer a longer blade and as little metal wasted as possible, but it is more work for sure.

    • @@MakerHA I find the Stirrup end interesting. I think you got too much of the Wood Handle into the Stirrup End. Slightly slimmer Wood Handle, not so fat, and a Seax Blade wood really make me Love it. Try making a 1 Handed Norse War Sword and a 2 Handed Norse Great Sword, 1 Handed War Axe and 2 Handed Great Axe, Spear, and 1 Handed War Hammer and 2 Handed Great Hammer. You could make Norse Flanged Mace too, but with Smith's Knives (just the Blades, being on a Mace they wouldn't need handles) in substitute of regular Flanges. Whodin deems this to be your Saga, and for the Honor of the JomsViking Moot.

    • @@MakerHA Cut 1 of the Tanks in half and Insta Quench Tank. Large Steel Drum, Cut the bottom out, then cut it in half, then Weld the 2 halves together, Weld water tight. Should give you 5 or 6 Feet. Fill it with water to see if it leaks, or use a small amount of Dish Soap. Apply Dish Soap to entire Weld line, look for bubbles. • nah he drilled into the wood and tucked the end of the cable so it wouldn't poke him. and on top of that, all you need is a hammer and a pit with charcoal in it. leafblower or box fan is optional, but if you have a steel plate on top of a wooden box, you can forge. anvil is not a must have. and if you don't want to forge, all you need is flat steel and an angle grinder.

  • I know I'm not a blacksmith. And I hope my question is not silly. But why are you holding your hammers near the head? I know that striking a hammer seems a very simple thing, but my grandpa tought me to use every advantage of the tool I have. And he tought me to hold a hammer at the end of the grip, so I can achieve the maximum impact force. I know it takes practice, but it makes you hit harder for much longer time with much lower effort 😊

    @ogi22@ogi22Ай бұрын
    • Yes he is right. However, for me this only applies when it comes to a light hammer. My sledgehammer is 4kg so if I held the end of the handle it would be very heavy to lift and that would hurt my wrist a lot, so I hold it closer to the head of the sledgehammer. 👍👍👍

      @MakerHA@MakerHAАй бұрын
    • @@MakerHA Yup, 4kg for one hand is a pretty big weight to swing it constantly 😁 There is one more trick I learned from a lot of blacksmith channes - kind of a "whip" action. You use the residual kinetic energy after a strike, to help hammer stand up, then you lift whole arm and swing it again straightening your wrist. I would be lying if I said I'm good at it. Takes a lot of focus to control this movement AND hit in the proper spot 😁 But we used similar thing in martial arts for kicking. After a few years of practice it becomes a second nature. Dang, you made me want to take out my torch and make a "pipe tamper" for my friend's pipe. I promised to make it a couple months ago. 😊

      @ogi22@ogi22Ай бұрын
    • 😁😁😁 Yes, that helps a lot when the anvil is perfect. It serves as a spring that drives the hammer back, making body movement easier. My anvil is all dented and there's not much return, but it's still a technique that I also have to learn. 😁😁😁Yes, do it, you will enjoy doing it and he will love winning@@ogi22

      @MakerHA@MakerHAАй бұрын
    • @@ogi22 That's the way a Mace, War Hammer, and even a War Axe is supposed to be swung. The give it a flick principle, allows for quick follow up shots. Works with Fishing Poles too.
