In this video I show how I made a set of sleek and modern built-in frameless cabinets for my daughter's bedroom to give her much better storage and organization. The available space was 127" and I made four cabinets to fill the space. Starting from the left, the first cabinet is 87" high and 44" wide with a set of drawers at the bottom. The next cabinet is also 87" high and almost 36" wide. It is designed to hold longer clothing items. The next cabinet holds a set of four drawers with drawer fronts that have a continuous grain flow from top to bottom. It is 29" high and 25-3/4" wide The final cabinet is 87" high and 22" wide. Each of the tall cabinets have a shelf at the top, but this cabinet has a shelf that is placed higher so that the hanger rod is higher to hang her longest clothing items. All cabinets are 24" deep. Everything except for the drawer boxes was made from A1 grade 3/4" red oak plywood with 3/8" white oak edge banding. The drawer boxes were made from 1/2" Baltic birch plywood and the drawer bottoms were made from 1/4" red oak plywood.

  • I'm 2 minutes into the video and I'm already in awe lol My toddler is going to be confused as to why we're not watching a chess board build tonight when she's going down for bed, but she's gonna have to get over it because we're watching those whole thing!

    • Assure her that there are many chess board builds to come. I just need to edit them. 😊

  • Perfect timing, planning white oak cabinets with walnut edge banding, and push to open drawers. This was a great video… my bedroom closet set is next! So yep, I would make it!

  • I must admit I got a Saturday morning chuckle when you described Baltic Birch ply as being almost exactly 1/2" thick. Steve

  • BIG job, nicely done! For large drawer bottoms, I like to use 1/2" ply, cut down to 1/4" around the edges. That might be overkill, but it works well.

    • I definitely considered that, but figured that 1/4" bottoms would be fine because the clothes in the drawers won't be very heavy.

  • Hey Mike, great video as always! Can you please tell me what kind of blade, tooth count you used to rip the plywood? Im getting ready to make a desk with walnut plywood and Im scared to death about the tear out. Should I use a 60 blade count or 80? And you think I should cover the cut line with masking tape to prevent tear out? Thanks so much!

    @Bekim8310@Bekim83107 ай бұрын
    • I used an 80 tooth crosscut blade. There should be a link to the one I used in the description. If you're worried about tear-out, using masking tape is a really good idea, especially with walnut where the tear-out would be more noticeable. I should have mentioned that in the video!

  • 22:55 why do you have to have half-banana material? can't you use that method with any thickness? 23:41 i guess that's why it's called the quarter-quarter-quarter method? i would call it the half-half-half method because it's half the thickness of the material. 39:18 unlike all those chessboards, in this case i have to say yes. but that's only gonna happen if my numbers come up, preferably tomorrow :-)

    @mrxmry3264@mrxmry32647 ай бұрын
    • You're right about the half-half-half name. I didn't fully explain, but I needed to have material that was at least 1/2" thick because the narrowest thickness of my dado blade is 1/4", so that's why I didn't want to use undersize plywood. And using my trick to insert a piece of 1/4" MDF makes it easy if I'm working with 1/2" plywood. Good luck with your numbers, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to win. 😂
