Making Cute Custom Keycaps with Resin and Polymer Clay + Keyboard Modding ✨ CoolRiceBunnies

I did it again; I made some more custom keycaps but this time with epoxy resin and polymer clay. The gangs all here with No Face from Spirited Away, Luna-P from Sailor moon, a cute sushi roll, and a delicious little mochi snow bunny. Watch as I mod a mechanical keyboard for the second time (but first time on KZhead). I bet your keyboard doesn't have pennies inside of it. (keyboard enthusiasts please be kind in the comments lol)

Thanks to Gamdias for sending me their Hermes E3 60% Mechanical Keyboard!
www.gamdias.com/en/gaming-gea...
✨ Pros:
Full RBG with 19 lighting effects
Budget price range (around $50 USD)
Comes in different switch options (black, blue, red, brown)
Anti-ghosting and N-key rollover
Outemu switches are good for the price
Solid feeling case
💔 Cons:
No customization available (both key functions or RGB)
Not hot swappable (need to desoulder for further mods)
Outemu switches don’t last as long as other brands (i.e. Cherry MX)
Rattly stabilizers
ABS keycaps are thin and may get shiny over time
When not playing games you need to use two hands for arrow keys (WASD + FN1); fine for gamers, might not be fine for everyday computer users
Final review: I think this is a simple gaming keyboard that doesn't offer too many other features that other keyboards around the same price range offer (bluetooth connection, hotswappable, programmable keys and RGB, etc.). Because of the keyboard aesthetic and it having no other option for arrow key usage, I wouldn't be able to make this an everyday keyboard. My everyday keyboard has optical brown Gateron switches, so with the Outemu red switches, I did find myself typing faster with it but I was not as accurate (just a personal observation). After making the keyboard mods, it was much more quiet and less hollow sounding than stock. I've been using it to play Halo Infinite and the experience has been enjoyable and I feel like my reaction time in-game is better (vs. using my old keyboard with brown switches). All in all for 60% mechanical keyboards, I think there are better options out there in the $50-$65 price range.

  • The precision with which you crafted the keycap characters - particularly the mochi snow bunny, with its insanely tiny tail and ears - is just amazing. Hats off.

  • omg they turned out so cute!! love the little clay figures you made, I'll have to try that sometime! also, here's how I prevent my UV resin from shrinking: the reason UV resin shrinks when curing is if the UV rays are too strong and cures the resin too quickly. To prevent this, I simply hold the UV lamp 4-6 inches above my resin to cure it, that way it cures more slowly at a lower strength, it just takes a little longer to cure. No more shrinking!
