  • I have enjoyed watching this video and I would like to a copy of the plans also. But I would like to make a suggestion on the tongue of the trailer. When building the tongue for more strength of the tongue instead of welding it in sections like you did in part one may I suggest using one length of tubing to go from hitch to outside of frame back from front to third cross member welding to each one and the outside rail. This will increase the strength of the tongue for the load.

  • ....... Granted yes adding a second Axle would increase the load rating of the trailer it also adds to the stability of backing up with the trailer. though they are rare having a two axle short trailer does not actually change the requirements of what you need to tow the trailer based on the load. As long as you don't load the trailer to its full weight capacity(which I doubt you can do on a short trailer) when towing it with the Minivan you'll be just fine.

  • I enjoyed your video. Excellent job designing the trailer. One issue though is it appears your welds are not full depth penetrating the full thickness of the steel. That will shorten the life of the welds and increase the likelihood of fatigue cracking. Be careful. You don't want a part of the trailer falling off while towing it.

  • I'm at the 15 min mark and I'm hoping he builds in some pre-camber so that when the trailer/arms/axles/rims/tires flex, that the tire will flatten out rather than go negative. Most straight axles come with a degree or two of pre-bend/arch so that they ride flat with a load.

  • Just a thought... Instead of paint, truck bed liner for durability? Just a thought , really like the build. I have a double axel trailer and hate dealing with the ramps for my Bobcat. I don't transport it very often, but I need the suspension to be able to carry the weight. But when I'm moving lighter stuff the suspension rides like a basketball (bouncing down the road). I thought about converting to air bags to be adjustable for load weights. but thought the time to build vs how often I use the trailer didn't work. But now you laid it out and you did all the design on how it should be done as opposed to trial and error. I like only to do things once, and the correct way. Thanks

    @Beagle869@Beagle8692 жыл бұрын
    • Bed liner is a good option! 👍 I went with the easy, don't have much time wasting on it wanna go racing methode😅 For the bounciness, you could add shocks...maybe that could solve it, but I never tried it on a std axle 🤷‍♂️

Go ahead and fab in mounting points for the shocks. Carry the shocks with you in the tongues toolbox. Along with a nice fat bottle jack. In case of air bag failure or air supply failure you can just bolt in the shocks right quick and carry on with your mission. A plans are good. • Just a word of advice from a welder. Leave a gap between the parts you are using to extend the frame rails. Complete penetration matters more, especially if you are grinding off the cap of the weld.

  • This is a great project and the plans will be great to have. But a lot of us don't have a milling machine or lathe or plasma table. What are your suggestions to build this without all those machines?

    @FCspecial@FCspecial2 жыл бұрын
    • Well...that's a good one, first, you can go to a local shop and have it cut for you, for big bashes of laser parts, that's what I do even if I've got a plasma CNC cutter. Simpler and faster. The swing arms will also be in a tube version, so easier to fabricate. Finally, you'll need at least a press drill (kinda big one), some hole saws and good grinder and a lot a patiente and should good to go! It's a medium-hard project, specialy the suspensin, so it's no beginner project.

    • @@VinyB57 Thanks Viny, the question I asked was for the average guy. My self I have a drill press and assorted power tools, even a hand plasma cutter. The question is can this be fabricated with parts without using a lathe. Living in a rural area as I do there are not machine shops easily accessible. Standard steel shafts and bearings are available at some air conditioning supply houses. Yes the swing arm tube version will be easier to fabricate. If designed with "off the shelf" parts and hardware more people could build this. I love the concept and have subscribed to your channel. Have a great day.

  • 600 lbs? Im interested in seeing your trailer brake system and the type of tire you use as that will be a significant part of towing capacity. Meet in the middle. Two axles? Lol. Think about this. Dually set up for wheels and tires. That'll get them.

  • It don’t matter what you tow with or how big the trailer is dual axle trailers provide far better stability at highway speeds, better weight distribution on trailer, and tongue weight, safer in the event of a blow out, better grip and stopping ability, tend to backup better as they tend to follow the tow vehicle better while backing up. Only thing a single has over a dual is they can be better at maneuvering in tight spots

    @buddtwin2@buddtwin22 жыл бұрын
    • Yes and no, depending on the weight of the item being towed. The extra weight from the added length and the 2nd axle could be enough to put you over your vehicles towing capacity.

  • Would I be able to make this trailer wider if needed? The dimensions aren’t big enough for my car. As in, would it effect the integrity of the trailer?

    @Teal2nnr@Teal2nnr Жыл бұрын
    • How wide is you car? Mine is 72'' (1828mm) and it fits with about an inch loose on each sides

      @VinyB57@VinyB57 Жыл бұрын
    • @@VinyB57 it’s 76” wide (C6 z06). I bought your plans, but I just realized the trailer is 72” wide. I’m hoping I can just widen it and use the plans for the other dimensions. I love the design.
