  • There's nothing fake about this. Regardless of electrolyte used it is a very simple concept. If you put salt water in a jar & stick a piece of aluminum in it (your cathode (+)) and a piece of copper on the other side (anode(-)) & hook up a volt meter it will show voltage. It's because aluminum is more reactive then copper. zinc works good but magnesium is better then aluminum but harder to come by. Look up "reactivity series of metals". The reaction is based on an "electrolytic process" This is a good design because there's a lot of surface area that's in close proximity to each other (the aluminum & copper) Also it uses four cells which increases voltage. With a 5.3 volt output it means that each cell generates 1.3 volts. The hole in the top allows hydrogen gas to vent thus keeping pressure from building up. Over time the aluminum will corrode into a white crumbly powder of aluminum oxide & it will loose voltage & leak. Until then more water will need to be added because in the reaction H2O breaks apart, the oxygen combines with the aluminum & the hydrogen is released out the hole on top. No more salt gets added. I write all this to defend this guy from dumb ass's who don't know anything & who's comments only reveal their stupidity by commenting "Fake,Fake,Fake" over & over. I tell them all to "Get a life", you people are unintelligent losers.

    • Youve got it wrong mate! The copper is the anode (+) and the aluminium is the cathode (-)

    • Well, if someone tries discrediting something without bringing any evidence, you know he is just some useless sophist right away anyway ... Too bad they don't teach logic, philosophy, and some other practical and useful skills people really should know anymore, not in schools, and not in universities... And more strength is given to the government with every day too. In combination, it might not be long before a person can't even fucking legally change a light bulb or fix a leaking pipe, nor he'll know how to, need to call a "professional" for that

    • Hi, thank you for this very needed and usefull comment. One question about the magnesium in stead of aluminium. Is magnesium stronger, I mean in time? I saw on you tube somebody using magnesium wire too in combination with an earth battery. Hope you will answer! 🙏

  • This is not a rechargeable battery. It is a one time use chemical 'wet' cell array. It works because there is a galvanic difference between aluminium and copper and when both are in a 'wet' solution of salt water or an acid ( vinegar) the different electron properties between the two metals cause current to flow from one to the other. Eventually the chemical reaction will eat away at one of the metals as it transfers itself to the other and it will fade over time. I am not sure how much current it will put out but you could build bigger and you could wire several of these 'packs' in parallel. Boats have to have ZINC anodes attached to the hull so the ZINC, being more reactive on the scale than the steel the boat is made of, will erode first, protecting the steel of the boat.... Nice project :)

    • to wire these packs in parallel would not produce a higher voltage. it will increase the amperage, but not the voltage. to increase voltage, connect the packs in series.

  • I know this may be asking a lot of such a battery, but since it is conveniently 5.3v, it would have been nice to see if you could charge a cheap cellphone. I would be impressed if it gave you a couple of minutes of talk time.

    @Jadinandrews@Jadinandrews5 жыл бұрын
    • It would, not only that but since this is a bi-metallic electrolytic battery, it's technically rechargeable too. It would be easy to overcharge on accident and that would heat the core expanding the electrolyte and blowing the ends off the battery spewing uh coper-acid ... (normally it would produce lead-acid but in this case...) anyways I wouldn't advise anyone who doesn't understand this to try to charge them but technically it's the same type of battery that in you car which gets charged by the alternator anytime your car is running...

    • @@binaryglitch64 how would one go about recharging this in the first place? And how long do you think it lasts?

      @ParallelNewsNetwork@ParallelNewsNetwork Жыл бұрын
    • @@ParallelNewsNetwork reverse the "electron flow" thus changing the potential inside the battery back to closer to it's original state... to answer in a way that doesn't require understanding electrical theory ie provide x-volage, x-amperage do it at x-polarity would violate my sentiment that this should not be done by people who do not know what they are doing. So yes I could say just swap the polarity and charge it with say 5volts and 0.5 amps or similar (DO NOT USE THESE VALUES, I just made those numbers up on the fly) but if I said something like that but with the right values someone who's more likely to hurt themselves than not will know how to attempt it.. thus hurting themselves... I won't be responsible for that, so I won't give such explicit directions. But basically you just do the opposite of discharging it... you put the electric potential back out of ballance. You must do this slowly so as not to over heat the battery thus altering the chemistry via thermal reactions... or cause a build of of expansion causing a critical internal pressure... basically if you charge it too fast it could ruin the battery or worse, explode it. Finding the values for that specific battery that are safe wouldn't be too hard but finding optimal charging values could prove challenging. Not the answer you were hoping for, I know.

  • It occurred to me after thinking about your battery technique, that if you had 2 pipes of approx 4 inches diameter ( or bigger) one copper and one aluminium of slightly dif diameters and put them in a plastic tube with the sand. That you would get a much higher output cos of the extra surface area. Also if some plastic piping for plumbing was used it would be easy to cap them off so they are sealed. Wouldn’t that be better than having 4 small tubes as you are using, at least it would be more compact and likely as I said a much higher output?

Regulate electrolyte level for more or less power build 6 cells and get 12 volts put battery in basement mount cells on plywood attach to wall, use oxygen tube to carry electrolyte to cells from barrel upstairs. Cells drain into barrel in basement, water and chlorine tablets are used for electrolyte, wire up cells to inverter to light up your home!

  • Hey cool thing I found. Running the numbers for the half reactions electric potential, these actually come out at a little more than standard output per cell which makes sense because the materials are probably warmer than freezing. Couple years later but this is very cool. Cu+ -> Cu, +0.34v Al+ -> Al, -1.66v ; 1.66v - 0.34v = 1.32v | 5.3v ÷ 4 = 1.325v

    • These work like normal batteries so no You can't recharge these but you can replace the stuff inside when it dies

      @vivimannequin@vivimannequin4 жыл бұрын
    • I believe you could do so if the positive side of the battery has a diode connected to a 10volt capacitor to filter the in going charge from recharge source of 10 volts to fast charge and perhaps may be feel the battery every now and then for any temperature rise to know when to cool it down and also check out put voltage from a multi meter the resume charging to reach maximum voltage of charge

  • Very good job. I would not seal it, I would put screw top so it could be replenished with saltwater. I got much better results replacing the aluminum with zinc or galvanized metal. What you made is very weak.

  • yes i did something similar when i was young, with zinc salt water and carbon. Sure it works ! But I don't belive it can generate too many mAh .... to have a reasons to use this.

  • Thanks for the video. I have in a pot two copper rods and two zinc rods with saw dust and earth. As liquid I gave copper gans made with salt water (urine) Both give nearly 1 Volt and the zinc rods are totally black which I think it is nanocoating... Those pots are standing already 4 weeks in my room and are not yet connected to each other. Maybe the corrosion is something else, many it is nanocoating.
