Plant was used to fighting at a certain pace bc of his style that would usually keep fighters under his control. Canelo made him Plant fight at a heavier pace in the first half of the fight. Throwing more punches than he's accustomed to. Taking bigger steps than what he normally wants & anticipating shots which drains more energy than people realize. Rewatch the fight from the 6th round forward. Canelo completely changed his intensity & started walking him down. At the elite level everyone has a chin and if u don't have good power u wont be able to keep anyone honest bc they know that they can walk through your punches. The most impressive part of the fight is that the Shoulder Roll is usually the best protection against the left hook. But Canelo was smart enough to shorten the hook to hit the exposed front part of the head. Understand how much skill it takes to hit a head with a guard up where there is such a small window to land.
That’s right… All of it. Canelo was brilliant. Plant couldn’t keep up under the pressure. He spent a lot of energy on his defense too. Canelo didn’t throw all of his punches hard, but Plant was dodging them as if he was. Plant fought a great fight. I actually thought it was closer than everyone on Showtime did, but the gap in world class experience started to show up as the fight went on. Canelo put the pressure on Plant, he made him wear himself out.

He controlled the pace of the fight and he showed ring generalship. People who were saying that he couldn’t cut off the ring were extremely short sighted. Canelo was making Plant work.

Jermell is a true warrior and a man that can throw down. Has tremendous heart and isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind. With that being said he has nothing that will hurt Canelo. It would be a good fight but I feel Canelo stops him as well. Especially if he would become to careless with throwing the same combos and leaving his guard down in the later rounds.

No. He is a limited fighter who has been fortunate to be around in a time where the level of opponents have been very poor. He wouldn't have lived with the greats in the '80s or some of the ferocious punchers of the '90s.. Thats not his fault of course but his achievements need to be put into context. The truly world class Mayweather showed up his limitations and he still has those. GGG won both fights. The scoring in those fights were absurd as was the judges scorecards last night. Plant, an okay boxer with no punch, gave him real problems. Maybe I was watching a different fight to most or maybe as a casual boxing fan with no affiliation to anyone, I could see things a bit more clearly and less biased perhaps.

Jermell is a very talent boxer and has some great attributes, but I can’t see anything he throws will affect Canelo. Also Jermell hasn’t fought anyone worth mentioning despite being a champ, he has managed to keep his undefeated record intact. You can say anything about Canelo that he has done this and done that and he should have lost against Lara and Canelo (which I agree) but the fact of the matter is, the man has faced them all and Jermell hasn’t! How he has managed to climb the ranks and win a world title without beating or even facing the elite tier calibre is beyond me.
