The International Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) Race is a motorcycle racing event held on the Isle of Man that was for many years the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world and remains statistically the most dangerous race in the world. The event was part of the FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship during the period 1949--1976 before being transferred to the United Kingdom after safety concerns and run by the FIM as the British Grand Prix for the 1977 season. The Isle of Man TT Races became part of the TT Formula 1 Championship from 1977 to 1990 to preserve the event's racing status. From 1989 the racing has been developed by the Isle of Man Department of Tourism as the Isle of Man TT Festival.
My Father rode there as an Amateur in the mid to late thirties, he then went to War, I think the War was safer.
😂😂😂
HAHAHAHHAH
Lol but bikes back then were like racing the track on mopeds today
@@llhold5811 1938 lap record of 91 mph stood for twelve years, I don't think Honda have a Postie bike to match that. 83 years later the record is 135 mph, an increase of only 50%. The bikes and technology have improved but the only constant is the courage of the riders,
Yeah well 90 mph is pretty good for 1938 I'd say, i actually thought it would've been more like 70 average
This is the only race that participation deserves its own medal.
Agreed
100%
Alongsidewith rally
That's the thing you do get a medal for completing a race its it that much of an achievement
Errrr.... Yet again; It's NOT a race. it's a series of 'time trials'.......
It not only represents "the greatest motor sport event in the world", it also represents a symbol of freedom. A supremely dangerous event that would have been discontinued long ago almost every other place on Earth, yet the Isle of Man Government still allows these racers the chance to compete, danger be damned.
The freedom to choose your own path. True freedom 😊
First saw this as a kid 50 years ago. 50 years. And I still remember the shock of that first time being so close to the sound, the smell and the heat. Tortured metal. So close the sense of speed was overwhelming. Dry stone walls and phone boxes protected by straw bales. It’s staggering. It’s addictive. I have to keep watching it. I’m not even a bike guy. .
You can't call catching bullets with your mouth a great sport. This is lunacy!
I went in 2006 on my bike and when you ride the course you can't get your head around how these racers do it. The best sporting event I've ever seen in my life.
U can keep your MotoGP, your F1, your Nascar and all the others........ The TT, The Southern 100 rips them all apart........ These are the most talented, most hardcore, most balls-deep, most rawest riders IN THE WHOLE GODDAMN world...... Utter respect to all of them
That's how I see it big brass balls needed.
I raced at the Manx & TT and it’s definitely the coolest thing I’ll ever do in my life. You don’t need to be particularly talented, I’d have struggled to qualify for BSB support races but ran lower mid-pack at the TT, but it’s definitely cool nonetheless lol
You can't call catching bullets with your mouth a great sport. This is lunacy!
If Murray Walker says it’s the greatest motor sport event in the world you can be assured it is
@@frankmapogo6441 you sure he said that ! Or was I right?
@Paul Sauntson I heard what you heard Walker said: "Unless I am very much mistaken mark this is the greatest motor sport[ing] event in the world."
@@frankmapogo6441 He said "the greatest motorsport event in the world"
He was a fairly good motorcycle racer before he started commentating as well!
Murray Walker's father won the Lightweight TT race in 1931.
Bringing her daughters back takes some courage too. They will know their Dad was really special.
Sorry but why risk your life when you have a duty to your family. You decided to become a father, why sacrifice your life for a meaningless race, it's not like there was a war or invasion happening and it was duty. I think it's selfish to be honest.
@@shellyredding6727 Mate for some people the thrill the adrenaline the danger is what does it the adrenaline is a drug that is addictive you want more so you do what fills that for people like me it's the danger of racing and going fast like it's your last time ever gonna do that thing again, I love the feeling of being on the edge when I drive fast and he felt the thrill of going 200 plus ks an hour down local street near walls and other object and the drug bit him and he wanted more and pushed it further and further till the point he crashed and died, to some the way we want to go out is doing what is fun to us we don't to go out in our sleep or doing something that is just like a 'normal' way to go out
@@thatsimracer666 You've never been on the edge, you've never been outside your house lol you don't even have a car or a motorcycle maybe not even a bicycle. Go back to your PS2 games lol
@@shellyredding6727 Mate you don't know who I am I have been to a few places I do have a car a 1988 ford laser you just a asshole sitting behind a computer or smart phone screen thinking your better than anyone else my name is jake graham if you want add my insta thatsimracer666 and I can prove to you that I have been places mate
@@thatsimracer666 Oh I believe you, you've been places, so have I. I've been to the rubbish bin and back and then back to the rubbish bin. I know more about garbage than anyone else. I currently live in a recycling bin but will upgrade to a compost bin soon or maybe if my luck is good I'll go into a general waste facility and have rubbish poured on me 24/7 and lick it.
This is the only race where every racer is a hero.
One of the couple of things I want to see before I die ... - Cheers, from Germany!
Nothing but admiration for these guys. Really hits home when you see Doddsys daughters and wife. This is an amazing event with dire physical consequences for those who make one mistake.
You can't call catching bullets with your mouth a great sport. This is lunacy!
The public can go flat out ! Yep ... I was doing an indicated 95mph , one of the gentle left handlers on the Mountain. Brand new R1200GS, latest tyres etc and I was overtaken by an old guy on what looked like a modified 500cc Gold Star , wrinkled leathers and pudding basin helmet ... doing about 105mph ! I couldn’t stay with him ! There is so much talent out there amongst the enthusiasts let alone the racers !! Compelling sport.
What a beautifully crafted and structured insight into the nature of The Isle of Man but racing in particular. Mark, Murray, Mick and others - Superb.!!!
Lots of metallica in this. For whom the bell tolls, one, bloody love it!
These are today's Gladiators.
In the motorworld...MMA in fighting world.
MMA carries very little risk compared to this lol
@@garethhammond5478can still die in MMA. But agreed nonetheless. IOM is still badass🏆👍😊👍🏆
2:53 the dreaded death wobbles!
I really enjoyed living and working on Isle of Man, 1990-92. In Ramsey, the TT course is only a short walk away from our home on Brookhill. My wife and I watched the race, with our new baby in the pram. She (baby) hated the noise, even though we had insulated her ears. I will love to take her there again, now that she is grown up, so as to show her why it is such a fabulous race. [Aussie in BC]
Been a lifelong fan since my dad first took me there, about 5 years old. Now go each year on my own bike, ride the course regularly. Unbelievable feeling that everyone should try at least once in their lives. The racers, gladiators and legends in equal amounts ❤
If it isn’t the greatest Motorsport event in the world, it’s definitely the most dangerous and deadliest. Very thrilling! Jambi.
The TT stands for "Titanium Testicles"!
Tooooo funny so true.
Anthony Ferruggia Testes Tough R.i.p all who take life into their testimony of life. 34
No fucking shit. You could not have said it better
How much money?
Ok.
300 kmh on country roads is absolutely insane
It's not that bad - they have straw bales on some of the walls 😄
Legends. So proud of all of them.
The guys' honor and courage are worthy of respect!God bless them!
Well said
Bravest guys on the Planet ... Along with Alex Honnold ...
'Brave', no, it has nothing to do with braveness.
@@Paul_Cwhat the fuck is brave to you then? 😂
Proud to live here!
Sad news here today 30/11/2020. Next years TT 2021 has just been canceled due to COVID-19. 😥
Thanks for the update Paul, in 1996 I stayed with the Glassies on Govenors Hill, I remember it being the wetest TT ever, first week was scrubbed, but still had a great time, hope to return
Same here
Potential for death Vs Potential for death and the slower one won.
Out standing
The TT pushes the brain and the central nervous system to the absolute limit there is nothing like it .Jet fighter pilots and formula 1 push the limits but this is something special.

just saw this video today. became a fan on the spot
Just have to wait till August 2021 for some races since they are running it later in the year due to covid
@@jameshill9325 i want to see this in person. it's incredible
200km/h on a rock solid Harley for me, nice and low to the ground and stable up front, would never bother with it again. I did hit a pothole on a country road at 100km/h once and was nearly catapulted off my bike. I imagine that these guys have close shaves like that all the time. Absolute balls of steel.
TT it is the best track in the world for me.
what's your top 3 TTs? (would you include Nürburgring TT in top 3)?
Its fine to go racing. it is smart to realize when to give it away, have fun do your best, but don't die...
brian critchley, spose you could get like a punch drunk boxer
A friend of mine once said something like this: "saying I that would die for my country is just a dumb propoganda. In reality - I would kill for my country and death is a risk for that action". I look the same to sports that have been killed by making them too safe. People have made everything too safe because they think that deaths of people are the only thing that matters. Noone who does TT and did Group B wanted to die, but everyone knew the risk. Some people don't think that a trophy is worth risking their lives, but that doesn't mean they have to take this choice from others.
@@yyxywiseman7708 Less punch drunk boxer, more like ripped apart or splattered.
Funny thing is that's everyone's sentiments including the over 100 souls that have died in isle of man tt history.
Everyone is going to die, some people will die in a puddle of there own piss in a nursing home and others will go out in style
I did 140mph on a motorway and that was scary. This is on another crazy level.
Me too. Did it once and that was it for me. I keep it under 100mph now.

This.Is. SPARTAAAAA
The guy's that do this are truly some of the most fearless brazen daredevils with Ball Of Steel !!! Or Just Crazy !!!!
This is an exclusive sport for a chosen few. It has only two requirements 1. Absolutely world class sport bike riding skills. 2. Gonads made from space grade titanium. Even then you are not guaranteed to finish, let alone win. Maximum respect to these road warriors.
Real skill, proper racing. I rode it - once. Scary at 50 mph, unimaginable at 150 mph!
this is amazing
Inspired to try it out somedays for some of us that have nothing more to loose❤✊
Theres one thing I've learned riding motorcycles for many years, people do not bounce worth a crap,We just kind of make this big thud just before the bones break.
Excellent
That's what I call action!
This is taken from the documentary "Closer to the Edge". You might have acknowledged that in the title.
Superbe course!
I like speed. But this is beyond insane. Much respect to all the riders.
The late and beloved Murray Walker is 100% correct, the Isle of Man TT is the greatest Motorsport event on the planet, how can you argue with a legend? Massive respect to these TT riders, surely the most daring, skillful and talented of all Motorsport competitors.
T T racing ❤❤❤👍👍👍
Cycled round the course in 1991. Took all day , but we did stop at quite a few pubs. Credit to the TT riders though.
Brave respect to the warriors 💪💪💪💯🫀⚔️
Didn't expect to see Murray Walker when I clicked on this video...Legend!!!!
Natural selection at work
May God bless all the rides... Born to do what's best for your heart it's something to be proud of... Just be extra careful pls
best of luck too you all . ride safe .
1:08 This is the Greatest motorsport in the world , yeah but also the Deadliest Motorsport in the world.
That’s what makes it so much fun. Only those that ride at 150 plus understand why these guys race the TT
@@scottdavis4388 Yes I can understand that ! But is it word ( Paralyzes/ Coma or Die ) for in a horrible and horrific way ?
Not many people making a living running 4 cylinders on an ⅛ mile track.
@@2289rainbowmount4467 it’s worth it.
Normally, the only speed limits on the Isle of Man are in the main towns/habitated areas. The rest of it there are no limits for any vehicle all year round. Luckily the population isnt huge. What makes the race so intense is the number of winding roads and corners, not really many straights. He visited the TT when the weather was good, they sometimes race when its a bit wet. And when the riders get up to the hills it can get misty even if its sunny down on the coast.
Very eager to join such event. Wanna be a star like these riders....
This is not normal.. this is beyond extreme
Some legends on this Murray walker - Mick doohan etc......
Morgan 3 wheeler race would be cool to see!
Side-cars are far more entertaining
When the guys say it´s frightening but they race regardless of the dangers, you know what they are made of.
Yeah, their brains are made of air.
Humans enjoy fear, they start young, by going to "amusement parks". Young adults "Horror movies" in a world of balance, there can be no bravery, without fear.
When they win, there made of money 😆

234 riders have died in the 104 years of TT. Is there another modern sport that has claimed that many lives in any amount of time?
Not sure...maybe there is..but none braver...

Insane but totally watchable
Anyone else get sweating palms just watching this?
Been there a few times, the riders are not a bunch of idiots but professionals who know what they are up against. And by the way, if you want to race the TT and take a 100.000 euro`s with you, they won`t let you ride. You have to prove you are able and worthy, and you can`t achieve that in short time. A lot of people are complaining about the accidents during TT, but I never hear people complaining over the hundreds of deaths every year during ski holidays in the Alps.
Ive always liked sports with a bit of edge to them. Ive taken part in a few too, but never owned a bike.
NW200 100,000 plus spectators, year on year for a road racing spectacular with speeds of 210 MPH riding shoulder to shoulder 3 and 4 abreast and lapping at an eye watering 124 mph. If you want to see the best of road racing then come to Ireland for it's many annual road races, like the Dunlop's home course in ARMOY the MID ANTRIM, COOKSTOWN 100, TANDRAGEE100, the UGP ( Ulster Grand Prix ) KELLS ROI, SKERRIES ROI, CORK ROAD RACES ROI and that's not them all. Some of these courses are nothing more than your average Irish laneways and that really adds to the excitement. Whether your into bikes or not, Come for a whole summer of racing and you will have the best time of your life.
Oh and don’t forget , Whalen the racing isn’t on, you can go there yourself and the mountain section, ,,no speed limit if there’s no fog on the mountain, so you can have a real blast in ur car or your bike ,, I did 186 with the misses on the back , super blackbird cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
186??? with the misses on the back? fucking hell you two have some big bollocks
The munchers mark quotes are insane. 7 dead 200 riders gone. It’s freaking crazy.
I will one day greet the Isle of man. Its nuts
This beats any other motor or bike racing. Huuuuge balls!!!

For EMS training insights into motorcycle incidents we would watch trauma presentations by The Flying Doctor, Dr John Hinds. He helped bring many techniques to critical care. Amazing physician and rider. He also helped to bring air medical transport to the area. Sadly, the track is not respectful of accomplishments. Rest in Peace, Dr. John.
Dr John Hinds was never at the IOM TT.
