Inside Lucid Motors' Plan To Take On Tesla
Lucid Motors is the latest EV startup to enter the market. In September, it unveiled its Air luxury sedan to the world, and teased its SUV concept. But the company has challenges ahead before it can become the next Tesla. CNBC spoke to Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson, a former Tesla chief engineer, to learn about the company’s plan to take on the electric-car pioneer.

Inside Lucid Motors Plan To Take On Tesla
This isn’t a war between individual EV companies against Tesla, but rather EV vs gasoline cars
Dude, whoever is going to be looking at buying an EV will compare Tesla to competitors. So yes competition is against Tesla.
@Ziggi Mon Scared because they're up against ICE cars? That's like saying Ford was scared of competing horses back in 1903. Horses lost, ICE will too.
Ziggi Mon there’s nothing for him to be scared of. All American gas car makers are non profitable and near bankrupt yet Tesla is only US “car company” with a profit for 5 quarters Lol
Ziggi Mon I doubt anyone can compete with Teslas battery technology. Anyone who tries will end up selling 100k up cars or if they try to compete with price it’ll be for sure inferior in quality(software or hardware) and range.
Ziggi Mon the cars make a profit, the company keeps reinvesting in growth. That’s why Elon’s net worth keeps going up, and....well, yours isn’t.
All the best to Lucid. I actually appreciate how open they are in interviews and how aspirational they've positioned themselves to be. They're also one of the few EV makers who actually have compelling and attractive vehicles.
what technical fact did they acutely quot about there products that make you believe there better.remember there selling something
One advantage Lucid motors has over Tesla is the interior, unfortunately Tesla needs to improve its interior designs and quality to continue to be sweetheart of the industry and compete with high end segment and price range.
the exterior looks a lot better imp
Good point, however it's a lot easier to improve quality than mass production. So let's see, we would love some competition, it's beneficial for the end users
If it really matters you can just get it reupholstered people buying fully loaded model s and x should be able to afford it.
Im I the only one thrown off by the way she pronounced Jaguar
What, have you never heard of the famous brand called Jagwire?

Lucid CEO literally said that their plan is NOT to "take on Tesla", what is up with this clickbait title.
How can you not compare then tesla makes electric cars and this is an electric car. Obviously they aren't competing in the same segment.. For now
Doesn’t matter what the CEO says. Tesla is the benchmark to which all EV’s will be compared.
@Josh , but it worked, innit?
It’s CNBC what’d u expect
Of course Lucid is squarly targeting Tesla and Tesla market share. But with a better product.
Tesla is trying to reduce their price while Lucid is targeting the luxury car market. Both these companies can coexist imo

Yeah this car is far too ugly to compete with those cars.

@Jack Redford Yep that’s the correct way
You guys still dont get it. Lucid isn't isn't coming for Tesla. They are coming for Mercedes! All Lucid is going to do is increase the % of EV's sold compared to total vehicles. Not take car sales away from other EV makers.
Reacher nailed it
So true, I think this is an inherent bias in big media, regarding the tech industry
Honestly this car isn't going to do that. It looks like a mid 90s Oldsmobile. It's so ugly. The interior isn't anything to write home about either. It looks basically the same as a Model S. The range claims are just claims at this point. And if you listen to the executives in this video, it's all smarmy business jargon that really makes you think this car is 95% marketing and 5% engineering..
Factz!!!
Dude, whoever is going to be looking at buying an EV will compare Tesla to competitors. So yes competition is against Tesla.
The proper title for this would be: 19 minute Lucid commercial brought to you by CNBC.
When I invested in Tesla I was investing in the man. Elon. I believe in Peter. That's why I'm betting on Lucid. They won't ever be as big as Tesla but there is room for this company. They make a compelling product. I like the styling. The like that they are focusing on range. I would like to see them talk about safety and their plans for self driving. They have a lot of work to do to be mentioned in the same breath as a Tesla.
It a long path though. And they don't have first mover advantage afforded Tesla. It's a totally different game.
“Our competition isn’t the trickle of EVs entering the market- it’s the massive overwhelming flood of gas engines being spewed out across the world.” -Elon
Sounds like something a competitor to gas vehicles would say lol. He’s not an environmentalist, he’s a capitalist trying to compete.
@@b4u334 a gas competitor might be what we need to save the environment even if his intentions are just capitalist.
Abdirazak Ali True. I say it because I don’t want people committing post hoc fallacy. It’s because he’s a capitalist that he will be incidentally saving the environment. It’s not because he ends up saving the environment that it was his intention all along. That is, government regulation should not be used to push the market to act.

While it's true batteries will hinder truck's cargo and biofuels are barely mass produceable which makes hydrogen the best choice, however with planes and cargo ships, the demand is much lower so biofuels are better than hydrogen
Here in Casa Grande all the locals are super excited about Lucid coming in. Property values are up, housing starts that were abandoned in ‘08 are showing signs of life again, and the town is projecting huge growth over the next ten years.
This is what Elon Musk said he wanted, totally revolutionise the motor industry and destroy petrol powered vehicles. Some might think he's worried about the competition but I think he probably couldn't be happier!!! 😂😂
Exactly. He's been throwing out price drops and better range and performance as competitors unveil their offerings. I'm sure he's happy to see the EV market heat up
He's definitely been outspoken about his desire to get the industry moving that direction. They've even held open patents to promote the progress. That just shows how much the oil industry owns these ICE car manufacturers. Nobody has taken advantage and truly stepped up.
Musk has sucked a lot of people in .... Tesla shares are drastically over priced ... Musk even told shareholders it was over valued ... even if Tesla increases their production of cars by 1000% ... the company would still be over valued .... and Tesla actually do very little to improve cars footprint on the environment

Model S was once considered a premium brand. Lucid Air I think based on initial review, could be categorized as not only providing luxury but also very capable EV to be stacked against some of the best EV currently including Tesla. Now that it is well funded and does not have to go through some of the challenges that Tesla has gone through, it only needs to execute/deliver what they said.
Model S was launched in 2014!! . Enough said really!! Many journeys ahead for Lucid many cliff edges. In 3 years we might know if they will survive. In 5 years they might maybe have volume production. Where do you think Tesla will be in 2028??? Seriously!!! To be mentioned in the same breathe as Tesla is nonsense. Maybe they develop somewhat quicker than Tesla, but maybe not. Or maybe they go bust. But From Model S to now was 9 years for Tesla. And they had a clear runway with no real competition to mention. I think to concertina 9 years into 5 is extremely unlikely. No Tesla have escaped the coup!! That's why the system is trying to hold them back!! It's their only option. Horses and stable doors come to mind.
I will believe in them when I actually see their cars on the road !
Their factory in Casa Grande, AZ is complete for stage 1. They are now testing the robots to make sure the quality meets spec. So, get ready to believe.

The roofing top of the Ev`s should be equipped with solar panels to enable the vehicle charge with the sun as well
Lol. Solar tech is nowhere close to being able to do that
I wish but there are too many reasons why it wouldn't work with current technology. Too little surface area and current solar panels are too inefficient to produce a noticeable charge. There was a company that had the same idea and tried it but in their tests showed that they got only 1 mile or so of charge PER day. You're better off using Tesla's wall plug from your home.
