Great review, Enjoyed that. 👍
U need to review the new models gr and s. They are trying ro Give us options. Dont deny them their opportunity
As an American, I don't regret not buying one, I regret that I can't.
@@Gearbhall yeah what about the hyundai i20n and also the i30n and the totota gr yaris? Sad
I bought a GT 6 months ago, I've had 911s, Maseratis and S car audis, last one was a C63 Mercedes. This is by a long way the best car I have driven. I'm 6' 4" and whilst it's snug I can do 500 plus at one sitting comfortably. I've only ever seen one other on the road, it just feels so special. People complement you on your good taste (all the Porsches I owned were vandalised) it's a very special car, plus I live in the Highlands of Scotland, we have THE most amazing roads!!!!!
I worked 2 years and half on this car, so proud of it, so proud of the radical version
Really well put together and very good reasoning. I'm driving a A110 Legende since a few months (which is now known as the GT). The 252hp and a bit more outdated infotainment system are the only real differences. Took on business trips, family visit, normal commute with traffic and many "long-way home" trips. When I test drove one I was sold in 15minutes - its not annoying at all to drive on the highway, in the city, etc. and it has the comfort features for it (it even has a rain sensor and heated seats!). Its even really fuel efficient on long trips. Find some curves and the joy starts; don't worry too much about potholes and (speed)bumps, its fun even at legal speeds, you feel the car rotate around you, etc. A sportscar that doesn't scare you but gives you fun instead.
In 47 years of driving, the best car I have ever owned. Porsche for the brand, Alpine for the driving
I’ve been thinking of getting one of these recently. If Gordon Murray uses it as his daily drive it must be good!
I have a feeling their value will go through the roof in 20 years. Good investment.
"If Gordon Murray uses it as his daily drive it must be good!" really? that's crazy
Gordon is a big guy (About 6 ft 2") who likes his cars to be small, light and well packaged. Which is no bad thing.
I have an A110. Best car I’ve owned. I’ve also had many 911’s inc 2x GT3RS. I’ve been lucky and had 4 Ferraris and a McLaren. A110 gives a far more enjoyable and attainable drive. Another bonus is that I have yet to be raped by the dealers for a service. Add the Life 110 geometry alterations (a free download and roughly £100 to do at your local garage) and add the larger Life 110 paddles, these minor changes make the car even better. You are welcome to try mine James.
Interesting comment, I've owned a lot of good cars (+20 Porsche) and did five seasons of Carrera cup, currently own a 991.2 GT3 RS, 296 GTB, 600 LT (in BC), 720S and 981 GTS - I thought the Alpine was OK in the twisties not outstanding and let down by a poor engine and gear box. There is literally no comparison to something like a GT3 RS. Its nimble, but so is a Cayman and the Cayman 981 onwards has a far, far better engine (even the turbos are way better e.g 420Nm - 380Nm Vs 340Nm) and gearbox and is a much more liveable real world sports car with far better fit and finish. Personally, I couldn't get my hear around the Alpine price point and why do the R, it simply gets destroyed by real track capable road cars. The bottom line is the Alpine was let down by overemphasis on weight loss rather than being a sum of the parts superstar.
Since I got one (in GT form) last April I couldn’t be happier and this is coming from a current « supercar » owner. I genuinely love this car especially when driving on UK’s small and bumpy roads. Recently drove it all the way to the south of France through Swiss, Germany and Italy. Even at full speed (there is a limiter around 256km/h) it never felt unsafe. It only is quite sensitive to high wind. Very old school in that way. Great little car it is
"It only is quite sensitive to high wind." Real Alpine legacy. Jokes aside, the original A110 was quite frightening on highways because of its lateral wind sensitivity. But it has never supposed to be an highway car.
+1
I really think the A110 is a brilliant car that's a bit misunderstood in the modern buying market. Similar fate to the Alfa Giulia QV .
I took my Alpine (base model) to the circuit of Zolder in Begium. I invited my friend who had never driven the car, nor has he driven on this circuit. I have a bit of experience on the circuit. At the end of the day he was 2 seconds off my time, that’s how good this car/chassis is.
I love my 110S, just came back from a 3,000 mile Eurotrip in it, absolutely sensational. I tried S and Pure before purchasing, preferred the extra stiffness and the stance and looks of the S. The car is effortless on motorways & Peage, then when we got to the good stuff it was perfect. The attention it gets everywhere you go is just fantastic, particularly as you can imagine in France! People love it and love that it's different. 👍
I have owned mine a couple of years, still think its brilliant. Drove non-stop to Inverness and got out without needing a back stretch/bend, no better vehicle to do the NC500 in.
Replaced my 6 year owned mk3 TT with an A110 about 9 months back , i really didn’t know what to make of it,it took me a couple of weeks and a twisty country road into the mountains to eventually like it , but now I adore the way it drives. I find i take the long way home from work. There were only ever 110 of these imported into Australia, as such they are super rare , seems like only “play station” kids point at it and know what one is :) thanks again for another Great honest review as always - cheers from Brisbane
How comes an Australian makes such a purchase decision, if I might ask ?
From the sound of jay’s review, it was built for our aussie roads. If only it came in a v8. Hehe
ahh so A110 stands for Australia's 110? :D
As a Brisbane local, it would be a treat to see one on the road! I will keep an eye out
I saw a Pagani Huayra in Adelaide (parked, as part of the Classic Adelaide rally), but I've never seen an A110. Feel free to bring it to Adelaide and take it for a blast in the hills :)
I'm never one to whine about the lack of manuals these days, but this one is unforgivable. This is the IDEAL car to be sold with a manual.
Drive one and you'll change your mind. (I felt the same)
Difficult to get the gear change perfect in this configuration, look at Lotus.... I find the A 110S an amazing drive with the dual clutch gearbox, super fast and smooth. manual shift would be too old tech and limited sales. Look at Ferrari and fast Porsches, all no clutch and paddles. Now had mine for almost 2 years and happy, smile and fun on every drive.
@@hyweltthomas I won't. Automatics are boring, just like EVs.... nothing is more fun in life than a manual transmission, and I will never give that up, even if that meant my death. If I was rich I would get one of these and convert it to manual and make it into a convertible.
@@guynicholson5438 Na, boring AF, ppl like you are ruining motoring. Might as well just drive an EV if you don't want a manual.
@@fortheloveofnoise9298 there is a difference between an EV and a petrol motor. when you are old enough to drive and have some experience of life, you may think different. Lol
I drove the A110 GT and it was fabulous. Flattering, even. Very quick at speed. You sit lower in the GT than in the regular one. It has the same suspension set up but the more powerful engine of the S, and 24mm larger brakes F/R, and parking sensors and a reversing cam. I thought the 4 cylinder engine would be too little excitement, but in sport mode it sounded better than I expected. The sound system you mention is incredibly light, which is an achievement in and of itself, and there's an optional additional sub in the GT. The Atelier color range is quite stunning, too. I think it's indicative that both Gordon Murray and James May have selected the A110 as the car to buy out of all the choice available today.
Met an older gentleman with a white one of these at a recent trackday, he was having a great time on track & then drove home in it without doing anything to it beyond tire pressures. Makes sense if you're in the market for specifically what it is.
It pains me that I can't get this car in the US. The Alpine A110 looks like such a fun and beautiful car. I have a 2019 Miata RF, but the thought of something that's lighter, more powerful and mid-engined sounds amazing.
I own a "Miata” in France, definitly not the same category. This is a Cayman eater, little MX5 only eat Toyotas.
@@augure2589 it is the same category, just not the same spectrum of it. MX5 is the bottom end of tiny but light sports cars, A110/Elise are the higher end. Obviously more powerful, but also more expensive.
Miatas are also very fun. Especially when dropping the roof. A110 is more of a serious and fast sportscar yet still very fun to drive
So wishing Alpine was available in the US! I would buy one night an instant!
I just wanted to say thank you for this video. It played a part for my in finally pulling the trigger on a new A110 GT. Can't wait to get it in March/April 😎
I'm a serial offender with Alpines, this is my fourth and I still have 1300S Berlinette - so I won't give a fully un-biased point of view. That's a well rounded summary - well done (I don't care about the front boot catch - but it is a ball-ache). Mine has done 42000 miles, cheap to service and run. If you step back from the joyful driving on quicker days, the basic day to day - leave it in 'normal' and fully auto and it's so easy to pootle in traffic too and that is truly part of the magic, it is a car you can live with. Performance-wise it's a little belter. Earlier this year I took it to the Castle Combe Magic Day where you can give young drivers runs around (or even let them drive). Even in the company of some Lambos and McLarens - every single person who went in the Alp rated it best car they had been in. One lad (smart enough and old enough to judge) who's dad had just bought a 911 - declared 'I'm telling dad he bought the wrong car - the Porsche can't react as quickly with so little steering movement'
Lovely to hear stories of cars being shared like this. If you might enjoy featuring in a driving video, please give me a shout 😎
One of my dream cars and this video convinced me in hoping to get one in the future! Sadly due to country taxes and questionable business practices has made the A110 cost way more than the Porsche 718 Cayman here. Cayman cost around 90k USD while the A110 cost 10-20k USD more. But one day for sure!
Hopefully things improve for its availability!
Why is it much more expensive?
Made me shed a lil tear @27:30 love the passion for cars making people happy 🤧
Thanks for the video. Brings it back on the wishlist!
Great video, absolutely love this car. Hope I'll manage to get one some day.
One of your best Videos! I really appreciate the effort you put in to your videos to keep it informative, interesting and amusing!
This is my dream car, thank you for reviewing it Jay!
Thanks J, always good to see the Alpines. Great mountains & forested East Anglian hillsides to! 🙏🙏
Great to see, thanks, love Focal audio.
Thank you. I enjoy your down to earth, honest videos.
Thanks Jay. Brilliant review - loved how you focussed on the real experience of owning and using the A110. Have mine for the last 4 years - and it is a special car. And love how you had someone on the road smile and give you the thumbs up - happens all the time to me as I drive across the UK. Makes my day 🙂
One of Jay's best reviews.. because he gets to drive so many different cars of all descriptions his reviews are excellent and consistent. I got to drive the A110 when they first came out, and whilst I really liked most things about it, the engine underwhelmed me. I've lately been considering a GT4 to have as an alternative driver to my 575M but Jay's suggestion to try the A110 GT is good advice. Loving those shirts..
Great and illuminating review of this great car. Thank you. Might rush out and try to secure an example!
Nice to see a review on one, we looked at the same colour car at Shelsley Walsh a few weeks ago, the wife who does like sports cars, loved it! They are very dinky things too and nost definitely a unique alternative to the cars you mention in the vlog.
Great review, Enjoyed that. 👍
I've had my 110 Pure for a month now, 2k miles in. It's a glorious little thing no matter what speed you're going at. The boot release is a pain, as is the slight rattle coming from the passenger door, but it's just so good to drive you can forgive it's little flaws. Sort of reminds me of why I loved my early Alfa Romeos. I had moved towards the dark side recently, had an RS3 saloon previous, and it's such a blunt instrument in comparison. For where I stay in the Scottish borders (and pretty much any other road) I couldn't be happier with my choice.
I also have this slight rattle. In my car it goes away when you move the passenger seat a bit forward.
Currently restoring my GT Junior. As it's back to bare metal I'm taking the chance to switch the boot release from passenger side door jam to driver's side. It's a keeper, so that charmy quirk would have worn off quickly... Also in Scottish Borders- are you in BVAC?
Slight rattle? If it isn't there when you have a passenger. It sounds silly, but check where the seat belt buckle is stopping against the top of the seat.
’m not, wasn’t aware of it until now. Nice 3000 on the landing page, my old man has a mint 100/4.
@@Sabrezx Fair bit of old bufty stuff (like pre-war) but more modern classics, inc. Z3M's, Evora, etc. AH is a great thing! Does he get out in it in the summer?
Great video. Thank you, a fabulous car and a fantastic ptesentation
Love the BX referance and I agree, my BX'x where brilliant on b roads and very rewarding when you've mastered a smooth driving technique with these.
Thanks SO much for the info!😊
What a wonderful car. Beautiful, quick, light, rare.
Great review James. I love my Pure edition. One of the best cars I have driven, and I have driven a lot!
Jay got to say you have really highlighted the true dna of the Alpine A110 in this video. Much credit that unlike many reviewers you ignore the superfluous and appreciate why those that can afford one choose it .
I saw one of these about 2 years ago. They are very rare in Australia. And it is on my "want one" list. Thanks Jay.
Great review. This has been a bucket list car for me since it's inception.
Great review. I am 6'5". I have driven it. Totally agree on your comments. Get the base model and in blue. The sabelt seats are great. It is very fast and agile. Love it!!
Completely agree with everything you have said (apart from the larger paddles, Life110 sell a largerset of perfect paddles for the car). Great review, thank you. I have had mine for more than 6 months now and love every minute of it.
This is why I follow this channel. Jayemm has a sense for a car lover's car.
Great reviews - thank you 👍🏻
Love the A110 and that''s got to be one of your most positive reviews!
This is a car I'd genuinely love to have, only modern car on the market I'd take any interest in. (So many soon-to-be-classics around I'd rather have) Totally outside of my price range though, maybe one day.
Loved the review, you picked up on a number of the smaller points, but overall it is great car. I owned my A110 Legende for 3 years and enjoyed driving it wherever i went, even the North circular ! There have been a few issues over that time, i had a software bug that would turn off the engine whilst sitting in traffic, that was fixed by a software upgrade. The rubber surround for the rear window glass came away and had to be replaced. There were some more niggles with the early cars such as the windscreens cracking due to poor fitment, mine was replaced by the dealer before i bought it. Overall a very easy car to own, and yes lots of people want to talk to you at the petrol station !
Top quality review as always. Would be interested to see you review a Smart Roadster please !
Great video as always! Thank you so much for making them. One thing about the engine: as you know the car should be as light as possible and is designed with the spirit of those old and great rallycars in mind. Light and nimble rallycars also use small engines with turbos so I am not as negative about the size of the engine. Also for public roads it pulls more than enough in my opinion. But yes compared to the whole car if there is anything that could be a bit more exciting it could be the engine probably. All in all an excellent drivers car and I love the turbo inhaling soud it makes…
Very well done , a classic right from the start .
Another enjoyable & interesting video really good 👌👌
Gordon Murray owns one and uses it as his daily driver. This is a ringing endorsement most certainly.
Your review has definitely pushed me over the top I will be getting an A110 at some point for sure. Have ummed and ahhhed about it since first saw them.
Shootingbrake auction 👍🏼
Great video :) Thank you !
You've become one good motoring journalist! I was interested in that car, now I want one! Meantime, maybe I should to try to make may VAG 1.8t more exciting. Oh you made my juices flow! :D
Great review, one of your best and a treat in length too (that's what she said). I may give 1 a whirl.
Had mine for nearly a year now and totally agree with your assessment J, it is a toy really yes, but I just love driving it and its a keeper having been fully PPF. Of course the other upside to mention is its very easy to clean as its so small and being a black car in my caset hat's a bonus. Happy days.
have owned my glacier white one for 2,5 years and put 25k kilometers on it. You can have the seat adjusted in hight, as it has three settings, but you need to have this done by the dealer; I do not enjoy fast motorway trips, as it is rather noisy at 200+ speeds (Germany); my wife does not like the little boot space (100 litre front plus 100 litre rear) and the infotainment system is outdated and stupid. It is the cheapest car in running cost I have and have had in many years, maintenance, dutch road tax, fuel consumption, insurance, tyres. On B-roads it has no competition at all! Acceleration 4.5 to 100kph always thrilling and light, responsive, immediate steering and excellent gearbox make it a treasured little pocket rocket.
I have owned mine for coming to 2 years and totally agree with your comments. The nasty paddles are easily fixed by replacing with the Life110 ones. The Life110 geometry settings are also an improvement. (No affiliation just a satisfied customer). The only other thing is the infotainment interface which is not up to scratch but is bearable. I have been looking at a solution for the frunk lever as it is annoying in a RHD car.
Nice work as usual as you have given a great all-round summary of the A110's point of difference. As I have had mine for over 4 years I would like to make a few points from experience. Yes, the front boot opening is a pain but I have only reached for it less than a dozen times in the 4 years so it's hardly a biggie. I'm also a big fan of the stereo controls as they are far easier for me to use compared to stereo control buttons on a steering wheel. (That's from years of owning a Clio 3 200 RS), Most importantly, i have never owned a car that I could push with as much confidence and playfulness and I have owned 4 previous mid-engined cars + a couple of Lancia Integrale's. I do wish mine had Apple car play but that's about it.
I thought they had carplay as standard?
@@Matt-go7ss not the earliest versions unfortunately. Apple Car Play cam on the 2020 update
Awesome awesome review Jay
Great review !
IMO, I think this is one of the rare modern classics. Great video. Thanks
Awesome scene setter. Watching the rest tomorrrow...
Always loved this thing, loved the original too - one of the best looking cars of its era, this is a wonderful homage. Surprised at the engine TBH - regulations can do an awful lot of harm as he mentions.
Great video! I've been tempted to buy an Alpine for years. I'm at that wierd stage of checking AutoTrader every chance I get in the rediculous hope that an Alpine A110 gets listed with a price 5K below average asking. I love this car! Seems an odd time to be considering buying a 45K weekend toy when the country seems to be going down the toilet... but then again, when was the last time it didn't feel like that?
as a 17 year old who passed his driving test a week ago studying accounting im at a point where i’d be lucky to have a chance at ownership or something like this. economy in a flop or not i’d take the risk because when you see the opportunity disappear in the next decade you’ll be regretful you didn’t jump on it. seeing how many electric cars are on the road now i think companies producing them will eventually enter some economies of scale and someone’s gonna produce an affordable model that everyone will jump on. trust me these classics are going to hold value with what we’re seeing with this rubbish competition
Hi Matt I totally agree but I took the plunge . I went for a new A110 gt as had most of extras I wanted rather than base model then add loads on top. When I looked at Alpine financing the difference wasn’t that much as residuals on gt higher . As a keeper I decided to go for what I wanted # spendingkids inheritance
Shootingbrake auction 👍🏼
Happy to be owning an A110 GT as my daily driver. It is such a rewarding car . And I can agree with what you say. Last time I washed it a Mercedes Benz engineer (who pulled up in a beautiful 1st gen E Class Coupé) came up and complimented me on the car of which he had only ever seen two In real life. We started talking and he said: „when I got together with my old colleagues we said that they (Mercedes) should have built a car like this in the past.“ Light, focused, small. He said I should keep it for as long as I can. That’s my plan. Although I can understand that for right hand drive the frunk release is painful. Oh and you cen get longer shift paddles from Life 110 or MP Rezeau.
Great video, as always! Future classic indeed and probably a very good return on investment. This is also the reason why I'm in the running on buying a new one. Meanwhile premiere editions are available on the second hand market and here in Belgium cost already 3k more than a new model with similar options. Only a PE is from 2018 and so out of manufacturer warranty. Do you think a new model will have the same value as a PE one in the future?
If you could buy it in the states, I'd be driving one. Love these things.
My favourite ever review of yours. Sadly they don’t sell this in Australia anymore due to some stupid safety design rule. And thanks for including newton metres.
Approved by James May... And Gordon Murray.
I discover this Channel with Alpine, which is great, but overall, i very like the speech of the man who speaks. Merci.
De rien Yvan
If these were available in the US I'd be doing literally anything necessary to own one.
Same. And I already have an Elise 😂 His / hers lightweight sports cars with the wife would be a nice setup. In 20-something years we’ll import one if we can
I think you can still import one. Just have to get it “federalized”, which can’t cost that much, unless you live in California.
@@TML34 I hope you’re right but I’ve heard it’s basically impossible until 25 years has passed
@@MrBubs-yu4wm You would need to contact a Registered Importer (RI) in your state. They’re listed on the NHTSA website. I believe the reason Alpine didn’t sell in US was purely marketing, not a regulation issue, but the RI should be able to answer all the questions. Buy 2 and I’ll take one! 😅
My last car was a 2017 Elise, and I really consider buying the A110, the base model , as you kindly recommended, I think it will hold value as wel.
Absolutely spectacular ❤️🔥😊
Great review James, have watched practically every review since you had about 800 subscribers and loved seeing the growth and development of your channel This is the only car I’m interested in replacing my GR Yaris with. Do you or anyone else have an opinion on whether it’s worth it as adore the Yaris which feels properly special when you get on it which it encourages all the time
Thanks for your support over the years Ian. I would say the Alpine is well worth trying, it is perhaps a little quirkier than the Yaris but it's pace will surprise you and it does have that proper sports car aura about it
It's quite a bit more refined than the Yaris and therefore (luggage space apart) a better long distance car. The engine is a lot less laggy than the Yaris (it pulls well from 2000rpm) but isn't as urgent (or as nice sounding) at the top end. The A110 is about fun at modest speeds - the Yaris only comes alive at higher speeds. The Yaris was the only car I considered as a replacement but it didn't quite do it for me.
Oh yay, a car I'm actually currently looking at buying. It looks so cute and I really like the fact it's 1.8 Turbo. Sad it's only a DCT, but could possibly look past it. Might just go ahead and give it a test drive. If it's anything like my old MR2, which it sound like it might be, I'm quite likely to like it.
Drove one for a few laps around Thruxton and it was absolutely brilliant. Felt much quicker than the power suggests, and was incredibly sensitive, with a really good sportscar feel. Completely different to driving my much more gutsy M240i.
Owned my standard A110 for 6 months now. Live in Scotland, it’s perfect. If you want to try out the life110 paddles James, just let me know.
Nice review as always. And call me old fashioned, but it's nice to hear the old school English pronunciation for Porsche, as in Porcshe rather than Porsche-uh. Well done Jay.
Great video! 100% agree with the review. I would also not go for the S. I tried base and S, back to back, on a great road (Alpine knows how to organize test drive events). I didn’t like the ride from the S, and performance wise the difference was really minimal, and mostly at the top end (low and mid range felt identical).
Looks brilliant, great color.
Pretty solid review! You have pointed out basically all quirks, pros and cons. Some opinion on the S: As an owner of one, I can say that while some magic of the standard is gone (stiffer roll bars noticeably), especially at higher speeds it feels necessary. When driving really quick in Germany, it feels like a good tradeoff between both worlds. Its not really worse or better for me, its just a different flavour. If I were living in or around a smaller town, surely the Standard would be my preferred choice. Looking forward to your opinion on the Radical, If you get your hands on one:).
As a Frenchman myself, I know nobody's perfect 😂, I have loved Alpine cars since I was a young boy. I will one day own a Alpine Turbo of the 80s, but since I currently have too many cars it might have to wait a little... This new one is really cool indeed but people are so brand conscious that they prefer to buy a Porsche instead. I did exactly the same, oooolala Monsieur 🤭, mainly because Porsches hold their value, and even when they go down, ultimately they go back up... Alpine is still "new" in the mind of many, so it might have to wait and see how things really develop for the brand...❤ PS: Great review once again by the way, good work 👍
Really tempted by one of these, must get round to trying one.
I really do like the A110. The original is one of my all time favourites and has been since I was a kid. This latest iteration is really tempting even to me as a Porsche fan. I drive an EV now and my wife has an SLK as her fun car, but when I’m in a position to get myself something for the weekend, the A110 will be right up there on my list. Another nice review, keep em coming James 👍🏾
10.000 alpines produced since launch. 15 made every day by 350 workers at the Dieppe factory. Launch of electric and hybrid version next year. Lotus best year production was 1.600. This is not bad for a brand that was relaunched in 2018. If only lotus could make a practical daily driver?
I think the fact that Gordon Murray drives one, says it all.😁
Only ever seen one in the flesh but… stunning!
Excellent shit Jay!!! Cheers from Charlotte, NC, USA
Enjoyed, your film. I bought the "base" model new in July, and agree with your overview..though I can't compare it to Porsches or Lotus..have only had reasonably quick Vauxhalls! Have only done around 1600 miles but enjoyed everyone. I took it round the Trossachs last weekend, twisty and not the smoothest of roads...it just grips and rides so well just as you said 😀 It has faults (minor) as you say, but so glad I have it!
In twisty roads there is no regular Porsche that will leave you in the dust in that car. The real fast Porsches can get away but also they are probably not as fun and certainly the license is in danger then…
It is quite obvious that if Gordon Murray owns and drives one of these, it absolutely must be sensational. Great review
Great video as always. Whilst the sector for such cars is small, it is sure an antidote for 2 tonne E.V.s
Excellent video 📹
the lever in the passenger footwell... well, that what you get for still putting the steeringwheel on the wrong side of the car. ;) Would love one of these as a daily. My VW Corrado, Saab 900, Saab 902 convertible, Saab 9000 and Saab 96 all dont have cupholders either. wouldn't mis them. :D
First to congratulate you for such an excellent review. You've gone through almost every subject and talked through the pros and cons very honestly. I've owned an A110 Légénde 252 hp for almost a year till I sold it few days ago as I'll be the very happy owner of the new and exclusive A110R in some weeks' time. Only this tells you a lot about my experience with the Alpine. It's a fantastic fun machine, noble and predictable in its reactions who loves the twisty and moderately bumpy roads. So kudos again to your accurate comments. I just didn't miss much of the lack of power claimed in the review and in fact the difference in performance between the 252 and the 300 hp is significantly smaller than you might think BUT, the S is a better option due to its better chassis setup with special mention to the suspension springs and stability bars that, in the S, are much lighter and stiffer. That makes the car much more stable in the high speed braking and allow the A110 a better traction exiting the turns with an overall feeling of better driving confidence and agility. I also agree about the poor quality of some of the controls: I can survive the climate controls even when are the same of an old Clio but I absolutely hate the volume satellite behind the wheel which disturbs the intuitive and quick handling of the gearbox levers. All these details however are forgivable in my opinion: this is not a family car or a comfy SUV, the car is all about driving experience and feeling and that is close to unbeatable. You always feel safe and in control thanks to the superb chassis and the very well tuned passive suspensions. Thumbs up for Alpine in that respect. Not neglect able either, although it's a personal opinion, the fact that you are not driving a car anyone can see on the roads every day and as you say: you make a lot of friends when you are in a gas station. Porsche Cayman or Alpine? As much as I praise Porsche's quality I've chosen the Alpine over a base Cayman and even over a Cayman S. The A110 is not 200 kg but over 300 kg lighter than the Cayman and, even when less powerful, its lightness delivers a unique driving experience. Again a thumbs up for your accurate comparison: the A110 is in between an Elise and a Cayman and is the choice to go for if you are not into brand-driven purchase neither you want to cope with the spartan life on board of an Elise. All in all the best/most honest review I've watched about this fantastic car.
Enjoy your A110r! Where are you going to drive it?
@@raphaelb.8440 all going well delivery expected in June. Looking forward
Drove the Ring, crossed the Pyrenees, toured the Spanish and French Basque Country and drove some stages in Catalonia with fellow friends so far. On to Montmeló F1 racetrack on Sunday. I bet you we'll have fun. 9,000 km done solar ... and counting. Can't be happier. It's a fun machine and I wouldn't change it for anything out there. @@raphaelb.8440
