  • So glad and so refreshing to hear someone say that people are too soft with their dogs. That's one of the reasons I quit dog walking after 9 years - I got so tired of people making their dogs into babies, especially since Covid, and having to bite my tongue to stop myself from saying things about them when their dogs acted up or when they made excuses for their dog's poor behaviour. If their children behaved like their dogs, I'm sure they would have have been embarrassed!

  • parents seem to talk to non-parents like they're at a zoo exhibition. "Wow what's it like having 7 heads?" The thing is with a kid as Eric says every aspect of your life shifts from "what's good for me" to "what is good for our children?" and because that's such a change that also affects your partner, that affects literally everything else going on in your life so within a year it's like you've always lived like this and there's something weird about life without it. It doesn't unlock some super deep insight mystical power, it just shifts how you relate to things in the world

  • I was watching Jason and Kara’s video today while waiting for this episode to drop and I was thinking about how good it is to hear people talk so positively about Joel and his methods instead of the vitriol that has been spewed throughout the dog training industry lately. I would expect nothing less from Jason and Kara though as they are very positive people and just don’t talk about people unless it’s positive. Both Bruce and Justice’s ears are cropped but they’re shaped differently than Dobermans, the ears are a lot shorter and look more like “gargoyle” ears, and they don’t need the framework that other cropped breeds need. It’s really cool to have the people from two of my favourite dog channels on a podcast together 😊 Have a great week! 🫶🏼

  • Before I had my first dog as an adult I never realized how deep a connection you can have with a pet. Love and affection are emotions that transcends species. Also I respect a person for making the decision not to have children for whatevever reasons. This requires a level of self honesty that many individuals lack and the children end up paying for it.

  • 😂 You Guys 😂 crack me up! I really liked Jason & Kara and oh my those dogs, are a beautiful sight to behold! I think Eric should consider a cane corso instead of pushing Joel towards them 🤔 I've lived with six doberman's and I feel like they think on a different plane than a lot of breeds, like Jason said the Corso's do. I wonder if Corso's have the goofiness common in Rott's...watching those dogs in action is probably fun and am going to tune into theirs. I have been a lyme warrior starting from 1989...its the type of battle that's near impossible to discuss with someone that hasn't experienced it. Marty Ross is a doc on line that helps people with it for anyone suffering through the nightmare that is Lyme & friends 😢 So glad your coaching program is going so well, if I was a bit younger, id be all in. Settling for watching you guys....THANKS A MILLION! You made me laugh and think about important stuff, too! ❤ I had to come back and say i love what you are doing with the coaching program, as people are in big trouble with their dogs! • I learned dog training by reading a dog training book by Pat Widmer, and some of her methods are very hardcore. I have had 4 Dobermans, 1 Rottweiler, 2 German Shepherds throughout my life that I trained since I started training dogs at age 12 (obviously I didnt have children at that time) they benefited greatly from the teachings I learned from her book. BTW, I love your methods and agree with your philosophy I find it similar to my own in regards to how to raise a great dog, props to you! 👍

  • Great advice. I always tell people when they get a second dog that they have to keep that hierarchy. They have to make sure that their first dog is made to understand that he's still top dog - he gets fed first, he gets pet first, etc. so there isn't any issues with the 2 dogs together down the road.

I do see that weatern culture has an obsession w independence and making it on our own we've gotten pretty far from the concept of family community sticking together, working together and all coming up together through all time. Its made us weaker as a society and culture and I believe its created a lot of our current problems.

The internet has accelerated the demise of community and family, globally.

  • I am 18 minutes in, and I agree with something Kara said about bigger dogs being more human-like, or maybe just more easy to relate to them as if they were a human. This is something I've always felt as well. Small dogs to me are not too dissimilar to cats in one particular way: How I relate to them. I relate to small dogs as just a pet, just as I would a cat. They have a name, they have a personality, but they're so small that it's missing something for me to be able to get to that next level of relationship. Something about a large dog makes me feel as if they are less a pet and more of a separate soul, an individual that I recognize as more of a... person? This manifests in how I talk to them, interact with them, etc. I also think a more confident and self respecting dog contributes to that as well. A super submissive dog that has a weak identity is harder for me to recognize as an individual. Take a large dog that is self confident, independent, and self respecting, and they're about as close to another person as an animal can be, in my eyes. When my Akita walks into the room, I NOTICE him in a way that I might dismiss or ignore a small dog. It's more like another human entered the room than a dog. I don't know how many people feel this way, but I always have. I'm curious as to how many other people have felt something similar.

  • 55 minutes in. (I'm watching on a faster speed). The part talking about dog communication and intelligence. My Akita is like this, very different. Well, my male anyway. My female does not show exceptional intelligence, but my male does. When I watch him problem solve, it's almost as if I can see his wheels turning in his mind as I watch. When outside, I put him on 160 ft or so line. In certain parts he can get his line wrapped around a bush or a tree. I watch him and he studies the situation, and then walks in a way to untangle himself. He knows he got himself caught, and then works out how to backtrack to get himself untangled. Also, when I am talking to him or around him, he is listening. He is waiting for words he can interpret. When he hears words he recognizes, he let's me know, particularly if he wants something from me. He will huff or bark to let me know I said the right word and have correctly guessed what he wants. My female isn't like that. She is such a SWEET DOG, but when I look into her eyes it's almost as if I am seeing a lower level of cognition. When I look into my male's eyes, I can see a higher level of cognition.

Every dog I've had in my life has been a success as every day was a learning experience for both my dog and myself. Learned through a book by: Patricia P. • Something I found fascinating is a video Jason Corey did as a guest on Fenrir Canine Show on KZhead where he says his Akita was so ferocious that if Bruce, his Cane Corso, was in a room with his Akita, that Bruce may not walk out of that room. I've heard a lot of personal accounts about Akitas, and I have my own experiences as well (I discuss a bad encounter with a Great Dane on one of my videos), but this may be the first time I heard someone describe a lack in confidence in their Cane Corso surviving an encounter with an Akita. No, I am not a dog on dog violence advocate. You have to make that clear for the sensitive types. I abhor dog fights. I do everything within my power to prevent such things. What I am interested in though, is personal protection dogs. Particularly those dogs who have the ability to back up their reputation. Therefore, I found Jason Corey's EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE about Bruce and his old American Akita fascinating because it describes the capability of an Akita to be effective - even against a beast of a dog like a Cane Corso - should you ever find yourself needing such protection.

    @GetFitwithDogs@GetFitwithDogsАй бұрын
    • I own Shiba Inu’s which are very close to Japanese Akitas genetically. Basically they’re just a miniature version and I’ll say that they are little killing machines. It’s so bad that once they get ahold of an animal it’s already too late and when there are multiple dogs they will fight over the prey and rip it apart like wolves each taking a portion and then running off to eat it. Two of mine are intact females and if they get into it there’s a very real possibility that one or both may not make it. What makes them extra vicious is the fact they bite, hold and shake violently leaving torn flesh along with deep puncture wounds. I would imagine an Akita is much the same except four times bigger. When they switch to the red zone they feel no pain and will not stop, I’ve had my hand bit through and through breaking them up and receiving an accidental bite, it’s very dangerous so I carefully monitor them at all times and take safety precautions such as keeping them leashed or separated to prevent any chance of them escalating into a conflict. I love Jason’s idea of bear spray and will definitely keep some on hand from now on just in case.

  • Totally agree with you that people are too soft on their dogs. I grew up with big, potentially dangerous dogs and they were all amazing, thanks to my parents. My dad would get in so much trouble for his methods today. He loved them, but he laid down the law when the dogs were still young. Love or hate my dad’s method, you could trust our adult dogs alone around kids, cats, chickens, livestock and other good dogs. (Not cheese, or socks, but no dog is perfect!) As kids, we were left home alone on a rural property all the time, and our dogs knew kids were their “job.” Our Pyrenees actually saved one of us from a dog bite when a stray pitbull came on our property. She also cornered a strange weird man who came on our property and made him wait by a wall until my dad came home and called her off so he could leave. Our German shepherd refused to let my dad’s friend come inside when we were home alone, but she’d also let the little kids play with her food. Big dogs are smart, they love their family, and they want to be good. But gentle-dog-parenting doesn’t work for dogs anymore than it works for kids. 😂

  • Prior to the social security system, one of main the reasons people had 6+ kids was so the kids could help the parents as the parents got older and less physically capable. Ever since S.S. started people have been having fewer and fewer kids and we're getting to the point that there are more people receiving S.S. benefits than there are people paying in.

  • Kids should take care of their elderly parents but its usually just one kid that bears the brunt. Which is overwhelming. But also "taking care of elderly parents" often isnt possible. Kids often live far away, work full time, have kids of their own. Its terribly difficult to be in the "sandwich generation".

  • 7:55 "Good" dog trainers are the reason for "bad" dogs. Basiclly meaning they make the "difficult" dogs look so good and easy that people ignore the "their not for first time owners" and get them anyway. If a picture is worth 1,000 words then what is a "moving picture" worth? It's like a coin on the ground. You know what it's worth and what you can get with it but, you will never know what the other side is like until you actually pick it up. And it is only then when you see all the dirt and grime that needs cleaned up before it looks like a perfect coin.

  • Premise: most dog owners invest as little time and effort as possible in training their dog. One can probablly see a good correlation between time spent training (any method!) and dog behavior. Most methods are effective, but not all are efficient. Ether way, if you get a dog at minimum its your job to not annoy all other people! Normally it doesn´t take that much time for basic stuff. Joel, love your way of dealing with pressure. Instead of absorbing the energy, you stay calm and collected (with dogs). I almost wish I could get into more conflicts myself so I could practice that. But you probably always get into situations because you don't allow nonsense to happen e.g. Homeless guy and do this sh*t at home Also Prince is not listed as a trainer on your Website, come on, give him the credentials

  • I don’t think it’s about people without kids not being good trainers and loving an animal as a family member that’s necessarily the problem. I think it’s the soft owner/enablers that treat their dogs more like royalty and valuing their pet as more important than a human life. I believe most people with that mentality don’t have children because if they did they would know a love like no other and realize that a human and a dogs life are not of equal importance. It’s the people that cry about telling a dog no in a stern no nonsense voice is abuse. ZG is a good example. It’s that mentality that is the problem and it seems to coincide with childless people and not regular people willing to set boundaries that haven’t had kids. People without children can be excellent owners and trainers as long as they are willing to set boundaries. It is the ones that enable bad behavior and whine on the internet about how “mean” it is teaching an animal by letting it receive natural consequences who are the idiots.

    • This: "they would know a love like no other and realize that a human and dog life are not of equal importance" This is the best explanation of this concept I have seen to date! Nice! I'm 65 and had a lot of not great human exposure early on. Before I had a kid I felt that humans were highly "overrated" and I had empathy for animals in the most extreme sense. To bare or parent a child I believe helps one learn true humanity...I will be eternally grateful for the gift of a child and the companionship of animals... HOWEVER...I don't believe it's absolutely necessary to have children to be great People!!!

  • Love your content, But I will disagree with you about your kids should take care of you when you get old. Speaking from a 65+ and have buried both of parents (both lived long lives) . Parents give their children the gift of life. Children OWE their parents the comfort of a loving and caring last struggle in life.
