The Non-Flying Dutchman is unquestionably one of the most gifted players to ever step foot on a Premier League pitch. Famed for his impeccable first touch, and graceful presence, he came to England at a time of change and found a home in Highbury. In the red shirt of Arsenal, the Iceman became a legend who scored beautiful, ingenious goals to help the Gunners through their golden period.

  • I remember watching the 1998 world cup Holland vs Argentina game in a pub in Sydney Australia. I was with my handful of Dutch friends and we were all dressing in orange. the rest of the pub were mostly English and Irish back packers, who didn't really care about the game. But we cheered and made so much noise during the match that when Bergkamp scored his amazing goal, the whole pub exploded....except for the poor 1 guy from Argentina. Good times.

  • I'll confess to hating on Bergkamp for many years for punching in the winning goal against Argentina in 98. But with that being in the past, and with time to reflect, it was a beautiful bit of play. Great first touch and a perfect finish. And the ball that was sent to him on that play was absolutely beautiful. Bergkamp was a great player.

Bergkamp is on top of the list in terms of intelligent players to grace the premier league 🙌🏽 I'm a life long Leicester city fan and I was at filbert street when arsenal drew 3-3 with us with Bergkamp scored that stunning hattrick (mentioned in this vid). It's still my favourite game at filbert street.

    • Hi Amit, my girlfriend at the time was working behind the press bar in the Carling Stand suite at Filbert Street. Some of the journalists, including writers from national papers, started drinking up and leaving when the score was 0-2. She asked them why, and one of them said "I've already got my story". Just think, that lazy wanker was more interested in getting back on the M1 early than staying until the end, doing his job, and witnessing one of the greatest finishes to a Premier League match ever.

  • Not an Arsenal supporter but I came dangerously close while Bergkamp was playing for them. One of my favourite players ever. Of course he wasn't the only player who made that side tick but to me they will always be 'the Bergkamp Arsenal'. So reliable. I remember he just failed to make the cut for the '98 Cup final squad as he was returning from injury. Minus the Bergkamp quotient made this a far easier equation to crack: an Arsenal winger will typically pounce on a second ball and open the scoring. Newcastle being obliged to come looking for a goal will open up opportunities for Anelka. He will miss more than he hits but will eventually notch. Shearer will be a danger - if he gets a chance. He didn't get great service that day but hit the post late on. I had Overmars + 2-0 and had a right knees-up that night. I felt sorry for Shearer, he gave everything that day but was beaten.

  • @Mins ((10:53)) after that spectacular goal from Dennis Bergkamp and the commentator lost it and I can't blame him, that, that response was very very powerful.
