  • I read the white paper on the Honda jet's engine mounts, honestly was really interesting for me as an engineering student at the time. Also I think reading that changed my opinion on 'reinventing the wheel'. Turns out, in a specialized enough focus, you are better off reinventing the wheel instead of trying to shove a less efficient existing solution into your very niche design.

    • Yeah, that's what Elon Musk said when he reflected on Tesla's first electric car. It would've been better to reinvent electric cars than to make a car (Lotus) change from gas to electric.

  • Extraordinarily well done and informative. Just the right amount of tech and infographics without dumbing it down or making it inaccessible to non-engineers. Not an easy feat when it comes to explaining technology. Well done.

  • I have always had a soft spot for Hondas. The younger version of myself got into motorcycles. My first “bike” was a 50cc “Bridgestone”, but then came the Hondas, a 305 scrambler and a CB350. While my friends worked on their British bikes all the time and cleaned up the oil drippings, I was generally enjoying a ride with a young lady. The one that would become my wife of 50+ years was a frequent passenger on the 350. Work and life’s demands took me away from biking for several decades (then the Harley arrived - until the MDs took that away). However along the way we discovered the quality and reliability of Honda cars. The Frau has had two Accords and I have had an insight and a CR-V. While I must admit they certainly are not a fun to drive as the Corvette I once had, nor as gorgeous and sexy as my new toy - an SLK roadster - the Hondas sure are reliable. All 4 Hondas combined were in the shop for non- scheduled service repairs less that a single Ford Escape I foolishly purchased, and even less that the SLK, and are certainly far less expensive to fix. I am sure there will be a Honda in our life for as long as we own vehicles. If I needed a jet, the Honda Jet would be considered, at least as a “time shared” plane. Honda makes good stuff, the Mrs. even opted on a Honda lawn mower.

  • Honda engineers have done a pretty good job in applying that concept to a business jet. I don´t want to bust your claim this design configuration is new but I think the Honda engineers looked around what designs have ever been studied but been unsuccessful for the lack of research capabilities ... Just have a look at the VFW-614 (made in 1961): kzhead.info/sun/rdxqqpyer6d5foE/bejne.html&pp=ygUHVkZXLTYxNA%3D%3D Albeit larger being a regional airliner it has exactly the same configuration and the engineers at the time had exactly the same advantages in mind (weight reduction/preventing FOD/easy maintenance/largest cabin space out a the given fuselage length) Unfortunately wing design was not as advanced as it is today and the VFW-614 lacked in performance due to not having the optimum wing design and engine positioning (and ultimately non-support after VFW was taken over by Fokker who was not going to jeopardize their F-28 sales ...) and ultimately there was initially no suitable engine availlable on the market and when RR made a tailored engine for the aircraft it had serious reliability issues ... So, potential customers were not impressed. Honda seems to have done a much better job overall. Congrats.
