I'm a chemist and I have a few things to say. Basically just don't use coke for removing rust. Most stuff that removes rust is acidic on the pH chart and sure, coke is but barely and I've used it before and it sucks to remove rust. What I would use is a mixture of vinegar (10%) and citric acid (or lemon juice) If the rust is really strong use a real rust remover as they contain hydrochloric or phosphoric acid normally, which tears through rust. For me personally I would use hydrochloric acid and it goes through rust in 2 seconds but it's a lot more dangerous and not everybody just has it around.
Thanks Walter, noted
Lol
just take water and lye NAOH and dip rusty things in it for few mins only but when you remove it immediately apply some oil or lubricant on it else will rust again. not useful for very fine threads as it will consume it but thick items it's ok to use.
@@param888 Yeah I just fine it not as effective due to the water content so you would have to make it super concentrated but even then it doesn't work too well.
@@FireTrye i have used it professionally and got excellent results, I used it for bolts.
I'm very glad you kept the old wooden pieces and renovated them instead of starting over from scratch. Like Baumgartner Restoration says, all wood is infinitely repairable, and I love to see things be given a new life instead of discarded.
Easier to keep the same shape
Up until we can afford it
Renovated? Ok…. Not the word I would use
"Im a chemist so listen to me 🤓" "according to my calculations"

I really love the editing. Mixing the satisfaying restauration with relaxing no talking and smooth audio. I'm just enjoying watching this before going to bed. Thanks for your works !

Watching a restoration video before bed is just like watching an ASMR video before bed. Your videos are incredibly satisfying and enjoyable. Keep up the outstanding work.
Glad you like them!
I watch these to go to sleep! So satisfying, can’t get enough of his videos!
I was thinking the same thing. The Bob Ross of restoration. ❤
@@overtaxedcitizen4975you summed it up so perfectly
Right! They make me relaxed and sleepy for some reason. 😂
I've tried Coke against rust a few times, and it doesn't really work too well. Sure, it's slightly acidic so it will take some rust off, but even plain water with a few scoops of citric acid powder, or regular vinegar, is much more effective. And neither of those even compare to real rust remover.
Agree. Coke, vinegar, and rust remover all use acid to remove rust. You can use white vinegar you buy in the grocery store and it's usually the cheapest. White vinegar is normally between 4% to 5% acid by volume. But you may be able to get pickling vinegar or cleaning vinegar, which runs from 7% to 10% acid by volume.
With all the breast-beating and cries from the food police the acidity of carbonated beverages has been significantly reduced. Next time, add a handful of salt, electricity and a sacrificial lump of iron.
@@trollolol705ummm fbi???
I have used acid toilet bowl cleaner. Phosphoric acid used to be available, but not any more . Any weakly acidic solution should work.
Did I miss the part where the serrations were refiled, or was there enough left of the old? Cuts fine !

Though I see you not more than 1% of time you spend o restoring the whole thing, but I saw 100% of your wholeheartedly workmanship that you gave life to this project. Appreciated very much.
Imagine how many tries it took to get that bottle of rust on the perfect angle.
many 🤭

This is the first bread-cutter restoration I've seen on KZhead that doesn't mangle and squash the bread as it cuts. Very well designed compared to some of the others, and completely deserving of its gorgeous restoration.
yes, i was so surprised 😂
There is also a little technique to the use, but I was also surprised the teeth ended up good still.
That's because it was old and stale try it with a new piece of bread
@@darcieclements4880 Tysy put a lot of elbow grease into running it over the whetstone, or it wouldn'a been cutting nearly so well :-)

I love that you try to make all the original pieces viable, like with the wooden ball. Most channels would have just replaced it, but you fixed it with epoxy and made it work. Love it!
Either the washers are brand new or he didn't show their restoration. I understand not being able to use the screws and nuts, but the washers were fine. I've been spoiled by My Mechanics I guess...

That blade was absolutely thrashed. That was a LOT of oxidation. Impressed! The wood looked beautiful after the treatment.
Mad respect to this guy for actually making these videos real and not restoring a 3DS with rust on it which is impossible
A tip for when you work with wood: In this video, you started to apply the wood stain and clear coat on the best/visible side to the back. This is not ideal, as leftover paint could drip on the already painted side for unwanted excess. Start with the less visible backside, then the edge grains and lastly the top side. Also, dabbing the paint on the end grain makes sure, that the paint is distributed evenly and deep enough. just going over it can produce mixed results. Nice restoration overall!
Nice legit tip.
Sometimes I wish you did a before and after weight, to see how much material had to be removed to restore. Another excellent vid!
Agreed 👍
That was well worth the time and effort! The restoration turned out beautifully and that slicer was an ingenious invention. Probably the non electrical predecessor of the deli slicer as we know it!
0:56 DEEZ NUTS LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
5:13 - Ah yes, the clear goat; a truly superior coating.
😂
Its the greatest of all time.

I was waiting for that transparent goat to show up.. 😁
It was so clear I couldn't even see it!
A fitting time for such a restoration.
🥳
You sure nailed the wordplay.
I imagine a lot of time and resources go into restoring these items. I admire what you and similar channels do. 🙂
I gotta say one of the most satisfying videos I’ve ever watched thank you!! Especially the slow motion pay off in the end, perfect.
Shocked at how well that thing cuts a baguette! Genuinely useful to have.
It does!

This felt like forever in the best way possible. I have noise sensitivity issues so normal ASMR overstimulates me, making me stressed. This visual ASMR with normal sounds like icing on a cake stimulated me not to be anxious but excited. I loved watching this
I'm so glad!
Alot of asmr videos that are intentional dont sound natural. Unintentional asmr like this be where it at

Magnificent job you did restoring the guillotine. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work.
I only watch these videos before I go to sleep, it is soooo relaxing, thank you for that, it would be great if you do videos more often

Turning an old cutter into new is amazing. Well done. It's been long since we saw you on video.
Wow, I was mesmerized by the whole video. I really love seeing such talented people like you restoring stuff from trash to their new form. And the whole process of thinking of what you should do next. U must feel really proud when u finish, and take a look at the before and after. Amazing job, man.
Been a while! The rust jar is makin good progress. Can't wait to see what kind of knife you manage to craft from it.
This came up on my recommended and I’m glad I watched I got to see good craftsmanship. can’t wait for the next one
I do this stuff just for fun, and honestly when i realized how much effort is put into a simple bevel creation, much less sharpening it, my respect for everyone is immense who does this with no power tools or machines. Absolutely insane.
i don't know if you've thought of this or if it's been suggested to you before (though it probably has,) but if you made a second channel with more long form videos of you sanding and sharpening and polishing and stuff i have no doubt a ton of people would subscribe. i sure would
This is one of my favorite things to look forward to every month or so. Thank you!

Loved the little hammer at 03:11! Great job with the restoration, you never disappoint!! Love your videos, best wishes from Brazil!

I just started watching your videos and I already love them. Please make some more.
Great work - very satisfying to see all the screw bolts lined up :-)
I can only imagine the satisfaction upon seeing and hearing that crunchy cutting perfection after your incredible restoration!
Oh yes!
Nice work man. The brass screw was an excellent touch…
You're an excellent touch
This bread cutter resto was much more satisfying as the bread at the end wasnt squished at all, just perfect slices!
A person could probably set their watch to how perfectly aligned those 4 screw heads are. It's probably been said before but I recommend watching the videos at different speeds. 1.5X is perfect for me (still fully appreciating when you speed up parts), some others may enjoy 0.75X or who know what? Everyone is different. Keep up the great work!

HI, amazing job but remember to use food-safe oil on the wood. Also if you file the tooth they would be much sharper
Great video as always! Love the deep tone of the wood. Were the two marked part originally painted? I think those might have looked good with an off white color instead of the metal. Still turned out great though!
I was thinking they should have been painted too and highlight the lettering with a different color

Crusty bread is pretty easy to slice, it's the fresh soft stuff that would have shown how sharp this is.

This is absolutely beautiful. I hope this creator and family are doing well and the recent developments (the news shown here in US may not give the whole story but it looked unsettling) and unrest hasn’t caused any problems. I wish you all the best of health and happiness.
Huh? Something happened in France? Not aware of that … (From Belgium)
@@MyTubeSVp I believe they're talking about the protests in Paris and other cities. (American media always portrays protests by liberals or progressives as far more violent than they really are, while downplaying fascist violence.)
@@RedwoodRhiadra I watch some CNN, MSNBC, FOX, OAN, etc, and it appears to me that American news is 🤮 all over the board. Everything is seemingly centered around fear, anger and outrage. Americans look like too many rats in too little a cage, all biting each other. There was a time we envied the US … But there are indeed some troubles in France (as there are over here in Belgium), but it are localized protests, mainly young men (and mainly immigrants) focussed on breaking stuff. Since the mentality of the general population has been in decline, the inherent weaknesses of our social systems start to show. Our system was built on a strong majority caring for a minority of weak, sick and old people. But there are far too many ways to abuse the system, and to profit off it, so it is weakening. But still we are waaaaay better off than people in the US in terms of income security and stability, medical care, study opportunities, etc etc etc. Thank God for that!
@@RedwoodRhiadrawhat is your definition of a fascist? The liberal left/"progressive" has some very fascist ways of thinking and achting nowadays.
You're absolutely beautiful
Another amazing video! I would add some backing plates on both sides of the blade so you don’t have to hold down the baguette so hard though
nice restoration!just a suggestion tho but i feel like you should work on the flat metal blade on that one more since it's not smooth looking
