Jeremy Sochan of the San Antonio Spurs is a wild card on the basketball court, in more ways than one.
There’s a method to his madness.

  • He went from 45% to 69% by the end of the season. MEANING, he was making 45% and jumped up to 80 something to average 69% over the course of the season. So it's no longer "pretty good one" but rather huge jump.

    • I think the actual number was around 75% after he changed to one hand (cause obviously depends on the amount of free throws he got prior and after). For a rookie that is massive improvement

  • Why one handed free throws work is because there are fewer moving parts. No second hand that might push over a little more or a little less. I improved my free throws so much when I switched to one handers that I never went back. Just rest it about head high, wobble back and forth to get a feel for it, then stop, then push. Same motion every time, no moving of legs or torso. Just move the arm and wrist.

He played for a team called OrangeAcademy, the youth team for Ratiopharm Ulm, which play in the BBL. Casually throwing in Sochan dominated german basketball, a league with two EuroLeague teams in Alba Berlin and FC Bayern, makes people assume every college player could be an international star, which is heavily disrespectful. I am aware the majority of your research didnt go into german basketball, but id appreciate it if more context would be added in those situations to not spread false assumptions. Regardless, a good video on the path of a unique player.
