The best product, price and technology will reign supreme. Right now, China is competing on price and to some extent on quality. However, to reach Japanese or German quality it is at least a decade off. I mention this, because India never competes on quality or tech, only price. So India is a couple of decades away from being a real competitor. America has no interest in India except as a bulwark against China. Same way China uses Pakistan, even tho Pakistan is as far away from any cultural or commercial value. India just does not cut it on the world stage. • John Mearsheimer has openly stated many times that "the U.S. does not tolerate peer-competitors". The U.S. effectively stopped Japanese economic growth with the Plaza Accord in 1985. It's not a coincidence that China's troubles with the U.S. started occurring in a major way around 2012, the year after the Chinese economy overtook Japan's economy to become the second-largest in the world. The key indicator seems to be that, once an economy becomes roughly 1/3rd of the U.S. economy, the U.S. government will then view it as a potential threat and seek to repress it.

    • The "good guys", ala G.I. Joe, are the ones that have 800 military bases spread around the world stationed as colonial outposts to mind the serfs and look out for any upstarts that may try to break free from the leash. 4% of global population thinks they are God's gift to the planet, that they inherently "better" and thus have the "right" of heaven to point guns at anyone that says otherwise. Its a slight inconvenience in 2024 that the "good guys" are actively engaged in the mass slaughter of over 30,000 women and children, all while Blinken's toasting the toadies at the "Democracy Summit". 1984 was a look in the mirror. Mearsheimer certainly will over look the inconvenience of the US suddenly relying on over 80% of its market cap tied to AI which has a single source in the foundries of TSMC, located in the Republic Of China, so proud our their heritage they built the 國立故宮博物院 as a beacon of their cause, making NVIDIA chips Chinese made, in the hands of Han Chinese, reading/writing/speaking Mandarin Chinese. Don't worry US investors, Jenson's got this one under control. What's that? His entire companies fortunes and thus the fate of the US economy is a mere 100mi offshore the mainland missile silos? Mearsheimer should have a field day explaining how the US just has to do what they're doing, they are the good guys, and good guys don't allow peer-competition, just like Jesus taught.

    • Lol. India harmed itself more than China ever did. China only defend it's borders. Nothing else. The border clashes are small potatoes not even worth talking about. India has had 8 decades to grow and develop but it has gone nowhere. Also USA has harmed India way more than China in terms of keeping it backwards and undeveloped. China invested in Indian and traded with India, USA has done nothing. Even today India relies on China for many things like raw pharmaceutical goods which Indias pharmaceutical industry is reliant on. Same with cheap quality smartphones and other stuff. without China most Indians won't even be able to get online since they can't afford apple or Samsung phones etc. India is too corrupt. Every infrastructure project you need to pay 50% of the total project cost just for BRIBES. just like everything else in India. completely corrupt bribery country. No wonder it will get nowhere, regardless of growth rate. All the growth is wasted on bribes and goes into the rush like pocket while normal and low caste Indians are starving and working for peanuts and their lives don't improve.

    • I agree. Many Indian wants to be the next or surpass china, they don't realize that it's a TALL order & quite a miracle. There is only ONE country in the world with 1B+ population that can achieve what China has achieved and it is china..... Now I am not saying that India can't do it but we need to look at the facts. There are only 2 countries with population 300m+ that can do what china does, China & US. But we need to realize that US were the least affected country where all golds went to during ww2. It was 40% of worlds GDP & has been experiencing economic decline ever since. If you lower the population to 200m+ (7 Countries), you still only see China & US. Lower it again to 100m+ population and you only see 4 countries, China, US, Japan & Russia. 3 in which were already heavy hitter before WW2. There is a reason why India has been called the next miracles by time magazines in 2000 but it's still at its stage now. It's not easy to pull up 1B+ people especially using the system basically borrowed from western countries with way less people.

On one side the Maldives want India out but their other ministers are coming to Indians and begging them to come visit and after that video of their assembly got out, it's better to let them figure out what they want 5. The opposition party of Bangladesh copied the India out campaign from Maldives in hopes of winning but failed miserably 6. With a staggering 1000 million wealthy customers who purchase goods and contribute to taxes, India will become an attractive destination for global trade. Currently, China has established its own ecosystem with a customer base of 1000 million individuals.

  • Chinese media talks about China's accomplishments. India talks of US accomplishments and complain about Chinese accomplishments. She must have been disappointed that he did not say India is a great power now. Also must have been disappointed to know that India will be treated like China by US if one day India grows big enough. The Chinese way of a WIN-WIN solution is still the best alternative! Very sadly, China and India don’t fight side by side against the west colonialism best comments of the day....

  • When he said US help China to getting rich, you can understand how ignorance he is.American’s money comes in to China there is only one purpose:earn more money!Even today the relations between two countries is so bad that still so many US money don’t want leave China, these we can see how much they are getting from China! China is not been rich by charity but from Chinese people’s hard work! What about the United States? Reaping the world through dollar hegemony! To transfer America's domestic economic problems to the rest of the world to maintain The prosperity of the American economy ,That is really unacceptable and more and more countries realizes these and it will don’t last too long ,we will wait and see!

    • Since the Tiananmen Incident in 1989,China has been under sanctions. Moreover, the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, so they dont need China any more. His points are riddled with contradictions. Even South Korea's ability to enter developed countries in the past ten years relied on China ,because South Korea was stuck in the 2008 financial crisis. South Korea cannot get out without China's help.

  • This is very interesting. It seems like Palki and so many Indians are obsessed with China bashing. On the other hand, the Chinese are hardly talking about India in their news. I suspect a lot of Indians are still suffering from the colonial mindset. They were abused so much from the West/Brits in the past. Why would Indians hate Chinese so much that I don't get it. I think Indians came from great civilizations and cultures for over a few thousands of years. Even Chinese cultures were greatly influenced by ancient Indians teachings. I think Indians need to stop trying to please the west like they're still under the western colonialization...

  • Prof. Mearsheimer's analysis is as genuine and as objective as it can get. That is why the CNN's do not invite him as much as they do to the so called experts, tuned to justify externally defined missions. Palki's hypothetical scenarios seem to unconsciously imply the presence of a central power from which multipolarity can be built. Instead, those who strive or are set to build a sustainable multipolar order ought to think in terms of playing their respective role as in placing themselves around a circle where no one among them is sitting at the center. Idealistic as it may seem, that may be what to aspire to. Palki Sharma a fav journalist, except for her excessively hard hitting stance on China.
