100%! Of course, for many of us, we discovered her as "just" a Prince protégé, & we didn't get a chance to really see her full powers. I still remember when I learned about how damn good she is: I stumbled across a concert (on PBS of all places), & she was killing it on the timbales. So I had to keep watching. Then she got behind a kit, & just DESTROYED. It was too easy back in the day to assume Prince mostly had an eye for how beautiful these women are (& Sheila E is truly beautiful), but give the man full credit: he had an eye--and an ear--for real talent, too.

I'm so glad I grew up in the 1980's.
so true! wish I can turn back time, 80s. forever!
Me too it was a great time to be a teenager, there was a lot of great music. I was really into a lot of 80s metal but 80s rock too.
yep
karameldreem me to
True childhood memories
R.I.P. Prince . Wrote , produced , created, some of the greatest songs in pop history
he did. and he will be missed. so sad.
And somehow he made all of the songs sound different. Same with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Unfortunately today all the songs sound alike. Sometimes it's even hard to tell who is singing, they are so inter-changeable. Prince was a true genius.
yes he did sure miss him RIP Prince
Sheila is one of the best drummers in the world. I've talked to other drummers and they agree.
@@robertepler189 Yeah, I got to see Ringo Starr(!!) one time in 2005 and his drummer was Freakin' Shelia E. I had NO idea who she was, but both Ringo and her played drums most of the show. Ringo humbly gave her most of the work though , a drum solo, and commented how damn good she was. If I hadn't seen Rush Twice, I would say she was the best drummer ever.
She wasn't a drummer. She was a percussionist.
The baddest chick to ever pick up a set of sticks!!!
I miss the 80's!! 😥
This was my shit in 1986. I used to go to Palladium in NYC and dance to this song..Still sounds amazing and better than anything out now.
+Thokozile Xaba u're like 60 now?
No.lol.
+Anderson Brzezinski No, 50!
your so right
+Thokozile Xaba Mee too. Was always partying in Palladium back in the day and this was my jam too. I had sex up on the balcony stairs. LOL! They don't even know how to party like we did back then.
She had the funk, vocals, awesome hair, outfits-
Damn right.
And can dance so smooth
But she was no Princess.......she was a Queen!😆
I was at a nightclub in the Bay Area (when I was in my late 20’s) and this song came on. I grabbed the first girl closest to me and said “we have to dance!” She smiled and said ok. I cannot hear this song without dancing. It’s still my jam! (I’m 50 now). But then, how can you not love all of Prince’s creations when you were born in Minneapolis! The Minneapolis Sound 4ever💜
Who still banging this jawn? Classic!!!
Lady singers had so much class back then!
Gray Stone Ladies are hard to find these days.
Or maybe just Sheila E.
ain't that the truth
Gray Stone - So True
Yes RIP songs wow no longer, funny I still dress up like this back in Studio 54 those were the good time sad that good things come to an end😔
Sheila E., Prince on the background vocals, a young Blair Underwood in the video, funkin in 2020... I'm here for it💪🏿❤️😍
Didn't even notice Blair until you mentioned it
@@galexjamn3182 yes you almost miss him because he was so young ♥️
Cuz it was on the soundrack to Krush Groove, in which Underwood played Russell Simmons and I think Sheila E was his love interest.
prochay I seen the movie so many times but this was yearssss ago , didn’t put 2 and 2 together
It’s sounds more like Sheila is backing Prince’s vocals. Not that I mind....
I just love this song 35 years old and still such a funky groove
I Love This Song Sheila E, At Her Best Thank You For Sharing.
Same here. This song never gets tedious.
They (Prince & Crew) pushed the envelope back then, with no apologies whatsoever! Prince, Sheila E, Morris... all were before their time!
Pun intended? 😀
One day someone will read this and understand
Prince pot them before their time.
@@Quantum3691 Lol!
You can add Sheena Easton to that list as well.
And Sheila was gettin’it here too!! The look, the clothes, her groove to the beat was on point! And of course another Prince produced and arranged funk groove for the sexy Sheila E!! Love ya honeeey!!💋
Yes she was she knows exactly how to move!! At 15 yrs old I wanted to be her!! Beautiful, cool, well-dressed, amazing drum player, actress, and most of all Prince's protégé. I was absolutely in love with him. Am I the only one who sees her as 100% version of Prince??
When woman were sexy and hot without the fake boobs and butts 😂👍
They all look the same now.
They don't make 'em like her anymore. >sigh< 😢
65 years old now and still HOT, both as a musician and physically. Can't wait to see her live on July 23 2023
Nope you aren't the only one loved back in the day the Best days if this generation of today only knew what we had!!!!☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Prince was running Shit in the 80's even through other Artists
yes! but sheila E also is a bad bitch
Michael Jackson was running the charts and prince sound was running the 80s.
And the 90’s
Love how you can hear his voice like a whisper! I am a fan forever! Miss him xo

My teenaged music was the best!
Ditto
Funkiest dude that ever lived. Had a mad vocal range and massive talent! Miss his beautiful voice.❤
Quel charme une bombe 👍🥂🇨🇵❣️
Prince did back up vocals for this track. So freaking cool
In another 30 years, this tune will still be dope
I come from the future and it is indeed.
Even without the closing of my eyes, I have a vision of Prince.
🌹❤️👼💫 My mommas song and mine. she’s so beautiful 😍
Great song; I miss the eighties so much.
+nightflight83 Best music decade hands down.
+paul mooij We partied our asses off didn't we?
Totally !!!
nightflight83 Agreed! And the hair!
I miss the 80s myself. 70s & 80s have the best music
Prince is the greatest musician of modern times in my opinion.
It doesn't get much more 80s than this. The dance. The two camera angles. The electric drums the sunglasses at night. haha.
Don't get it twisted, Shelia could jump on those drums or percussion kit and turn it out. Home girl could flat out play.
I saw her I concert last night. She absolutely can play!!
Shelia E is one of the best percussionists of all time.
Music Power past tense? Bruh!
Her dad is a percussionist with Santana
Aaaand on the full set too
She was dope. I love watching her play drums shes beautiful and this was my era. Such talent. My twin sis and I loved dancing to her songs. She passed last year. I miss having her around. Life was simple and fun back then. Sheila E brought us good music and good times.
I pray for strength for you doll.
What do you mean? Sheila is still with us.
@@142horizon they didn’t say sheila passed they said their twin sister passed away
Sorry to hear that but it is part of life as im sure you know...i can relate for inlost my wife in 2017...stay strong and always boogie
Sorry for your loss. May your sis R.I.P.
At 65 years old, I will leave a conversation to 🩰 to this jam!!

See you in paradise brother 😊
Not dead
We the lucky, those that lived through those magical 80's.
Heard this today when I was shopping at Trader Joe's. Awesome tune. Blast from the past. It totally made my day.
What do I miss about the 1980's....? Music,Music vid's and my childhood!
I just love the 80's look and no matter how hard we try, we can''t seem to get the color of highlights in hairstyles the same like back then.
The 80s oh man what an era to have lived in. Music with no profanity and no sexual innuendos.
Lol, what 80s are you talking about.
Shelia E was badddd in the 80s!
+Moniqtee amen to that Moniqtee. This was when music was badass!!
Sharon Jones Nice Picture...😉✌️
Shiela E. and Prince. Yas.
Elaine Anderson ...Nice Picture...😉👍✌️
This beat 🎶 sick! 🎉
Prince y Sheila un dúo genial ... hoy día no se hace esta música lamentablemente ...
Back when music was fun and raw
+sephius1999 Back when we actually had music.
sephius 1999, and what the hell has happened to rap? It is all shit right now. Even the masters like Dre, Snoop say its all gone to shit.
. . . and made by humans! Technology is destroying our creativity, talent, and humanity. . . . and if it continues will be the downfall of man. Mark my words.
Prince will never be fully appreciated by the unrefined masses and ignorant media simpletons. Prince, the total package.
game....blouses
paul forsell , whatever.
Maybe not, but was pretty clear when he died he was about as respected as a musician/artist could ever be by the “masses”. So please spare Earth your hero signaling. You’re not as unique as you’d like to believe.
Exactly, I couldn't have said it any better!!!
That's what we are we all want a love bizarre
God bless my 2 brothers 💛🖤 *The moon up above shines down upon the skin* 🙋🏾♀️WORD Thank you for this one Shiela E❤
This moment was certainly the pinacalle of 80ies!...
I will always 💘 the 80's. Music best music ever
How was she not a bigger star? She & Prince had the magic touch.
Damn! I need to go back to the '80s and just stay there! I miss being free and young!
There is nothing Prince can't do. Pure genius, been a FAM of his since I was 15 in the 80's, omg best ever.
I was so in love with Shelia E. I remember when Prince, Appalonia and Shelia did a concert in Detroint back in the day. She was so fine as I watched her.
Wow, how lucky are you? 😃
Many fond memories dancing in clubs to this one.....Thank you PRINCE & Sheila E!
I absolutely LOVE THIS SPECIAL SONG!! Ohhh my youth!! Missing you dear Prince!! Love you always!! 💋💔❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💜🌹🌹🌹
I wish I could go back to being 13 y/o in 1984 again, Watch purple rain and the rest is history...the 90's were pretty cool as well
I try telling these youngsters that is MUSIC!
James McFarlin Yeess!!!
Sheila E. was Prince's true soul mate! she was there the entire time, but he just didn't realize it. she had his back, they had so much in common, and they have a love of music! Sometimes the love of our lives are standing right before us and we can't even see it!
According to her book they were madly in love with each other but by some point they didnt get along. After marrying other women he gravitated back to her and brought her back into his life. He knew and she knew they r soulmates. U gotta get her book it is awesome.
+Caz P Thanks Caz, I did get it, at Barnes and Nobles, and yes it was a great book!
Prince had to be with women he could control thats why they didnt work out.
But what woman wouldn't mind being controlled by a musical genius. Better than being controlled and whooped on by a hood Prince. He'd probably constantly break your neck. Women are just confused asses and don't realize the better than the worst.
Because of his control is why he didnt work out with Vanity shelia e and most women regardless if he didnt hit them or not....thats why he didint do We are the World with Michael...Prince likes to be in control of everything..thats just the way he is
