  • Even if the execution is a bit awkward, I really like that Lenovo is experimenting with different ways to interact with the device. I would plan to plug this into my TV or projector as much as I would be playing as a handheld , so I love the direction they're going with the different control modes. I'd probably trade FPS mode for a more game-friendly track pad like the Steam Deck, but I applaud their efforts to push the boundaries of what you can do with devices like these.

    • I would trade fps mode/ removable controllers for more comfortable grips. The legion go is the only handheld I've used that makes my hands/ fingers go numb after playing for an extended period. Also the fact that the software is still buggy with tdp control still not working almost 5 months in.......

  • Love this thing. The big 1600P screen is perfect for content viewing and gaming still looks really good at 800P with integer scaling. I use the stand every single day when playing on the couch or watching KZhead or whatever, make it super comfortable. Don’t know what I would do without it.

    • Honestly, I use mine as a gaming / handheld PC hybrid device. It's like an overpowered little Windows tablet, when I'm not gaming the screen's just large enough for content consumption, and it's pin sharp at 1600p. Gaming performance is pretty decent too...I'm always surprised at how good 800p looks on a screen this size.

    • Yeah that's what I'm also planning to do quite often - connect it to big TV and sit on the couch, especially when I'm not in home but somewhere else on weekend :) I must also admit that 8,8" screen is superb, I mean on my Rog Ally it's always a little to small for me to feel comfortable and also the grip is much better on Legion Go. @jeremygoh2747 And you can use any of the Lenovo's USB4 ports as full Thunderbolt 3/4 port for eGPU setup :D I'm planning to sell my laptop and have just one ultimate device for everything :) Maybe I'll buy even 18,5" IPS portable monitor (USB-C) as 2nd screen :)

  • Since I've got one of these, the only headache I've had with this device are the lack of proper PC controller support. The Legion GO has some 17 individual buttons on its chassis, yet for some unfathomable reason, Lenovo has decided that one should not be able to see and map all 17 buttons as a single controller, as should be doable on a Windows PC using D-Input. Its totally annoying being forced to use the console class X-Input system and be limited to the tiny number of buttons on the X- ox controller.

    @fredsas12@fredsas123 ай бұрын
    • you sure that's not a problem on the windows side? I have to use an x-input mapper like DualSenseX to convert my Ps5 controller to X-input, because windows doesn't like d-input. Steam can play nice with it, but I have a lot of games not on steam that simply doesn't work on D-input. But I'm not expert on the ins and outs of X vs D-input.

      @oftankoftan@oftankoftan2 ай бұрын
    • @@oftankoftan No. Its down to the GO's and controller's firmware. The Legion GO supports both D-Input and X-Input modes. By default in D-Input (as far I could see), it acts as a (customised) X-Box 360 controller (which seems to be strange, because an X-360 is still X-Input), however if its switched into X-Input mode it turn into a custom Xbox-One controller. If one detaches the controllers into dual joy-cons, however, it then switches into another mode entirely using Bluetooth, (whether D or X-input, I don't know). Its only in this case, do other the buttons become available to be used, but at the same time, some of the standard face buttons then become deactivated. I've tried everything (like vJoy and Joystick Gremlin) to remap, however the only software that works is the Hand-Held Companion remapper which can recognise every button at once in D-Input mode. However, incredibly annoyingly it only supports remapping to a PS4 or Xbox 360 Controller, which are limited to only those official buttons, so basically converting D-Input to X-Input, which leaves us with the same issue. i.e.: Not all buttons can be used at once... Lenovo has said previously that they are looking into this. The Joy-cons each have their own firmware alongside the main base unit and can be updated independently. All Lenovo has to do is ensure that D-Input mode has access to all buttons at the same time. The PC's D-Input mode supports up to 128 buttons per controller, whilst the X-Input system for Xbox supports 10 buttons if I remember correctly. The Legion GO more than any other handheld is an actual "handheld Windows PC", whilst the others are basically trying to pretend to be a console. Lenovo should play to this strength rather than doing what the others are doing and give full use to PC specific APIs and not consoles.

    • I thought VRR was going to be a big factor too prior to purchasing the device, but strangely I've not experienced any screen tearing issue at all - and being a PC gamer, I'm generally very very sensitive towards it. All the games run smoothly on the 144hz screen which I suspect is the key factor in the perceived fluidity. Another factor is perhaps because the Legion Go uses a portrait display, the refreshing cycle is done vertically thus less visible when panning the in-game camera angle...

  • This device is in its own category. It's a hybrid that can be used as a handheld/tablet/laptop. The only problem is... it's not doing any of these perfectly. But I can see people that are fine with that and want one device. My opinion is that if you already have small portable laptop, and want real handheld experience, go with the Deck or ROG Ally. This situation of putting the Legion Go on the table, detaching controllers, turning them into mouse or whatever. It's cool, but if you have a small laptop, it's not that much bigger, but the screen screen is bigger, with more powerful hardware, you can use real mouse & controller... That's the reality of the situation. Legion Go will be your perfect device IF it's your only device.

  • 10:00 -- you can easily swap those bottom control buttons with the ones on top in the Legion Space... seriously, did you even use the device somewhat extensively before making this video? For example, you didn't even mention its class leading performance as a "pro"? It's capable of running most games at 1080p or 1600p medium setting at close to 60fps where as the Steamdeck would struggle to reach 40fps at 720p -- there's a huge performance gap between the two devices. Also it's not locked to the steam ecosystem, so you don't need to worry about games not being compatible with the proton compatibility layer or having to purchase games you already own outside of steam -- everything just works, including all emulators

Between those 2 options it's about a 85/15 split, with most of my time playing on the handheld. I almost never play on my work PC in the office. -Adam

  • The Legion Go isn't simply a handheld device for me. I use this as a portable PC when travelling. It's the most compact gaming tablet out there. I do agree that ergonomics and acoustics should be improved, but i don't think detachable controllers and FPS modes are cons. Just because you don't use those features doesn't mean its a "disadvantage" to have. For me, detachable controllers is a selling point. When I travel I can just use the two controllers & FPS mode to play games like LoL and Apex Legends. For other handhelds you'd need to bring a separate mouse and keyboard for it.

  • I enjoy my Legion Go but I do find myself using an Xbox controller with it versus the integrated ones... Perhaps with the ability to remove the controllers, someone will redesign the existing ones with different shapes, buttons, and possibly add a bridge to connect them to mimic a Xbox controller (tried the 3d printed one, close but not happy with it.) Otherwise, I'm very happy with it and enjoy it's gaming and mini Windows tablet ability.

  • Start and Select placements can be moved. FPS is an additional feature that has ZERO CONS. Don’t use it if you don’t want to. Buttons don’t have to be mapped and still give you more options than 2 back buttons(most handhelds). Play normal than switch to Tablet on chest/stomach detached controllers for maximum comfort. Fixes weight issues as well. Audio can be fixed through a native app to Lenovo. Your review is Lazy as Lazy

And why its better than whats currently the most powerful handheld with the biggest, best resolution screen screen with highest frame rate? I mean if you just prefer the ergonomics of the steam deck and dont want to play the more demanding games then fair wnough but if you say aomething like the switch then i dont thibk you have valid opinions

That occurred prior to the publication of this review. And you mentioned pairing with AR glasses but no mention of cool things that you can do for an extremely lightweight gaming experience with using AR and Legion display off and detached controllers. Pretty glorious, IME.

Lounging on sofa or bed with the Go propped up on my belly (kickstand 👌) with my hands by my sides was just blissfully comfortable (despite the poor ergonomics of those top edges). I loved it! It's the one thing I miss.
