The ROG Ally and Legion GO are excellent handheld experiences that may fit different types of gamers. This is a Long Term Review of the The ROG Ally is more compact with a VRR display and great speakers. The Legion GO has detachable sticks, better battery life and a MASSIVE screen. But there is a lot more to the equation. Let's talk about it!

I have a Legion Go. Love Love that thing. Little heavy but it has a stand and removable joy cons. And a stand for FPS mode. I have the 2tb from micro center . Great device. Go get one you will love it.
@@jimmydean358 I'm loving it too and the screen that's just shy of 9 inches. I didn't get mine from Microcenter but I did get the high end 1TB micro SD card during Black Friday for a little over $100. Actually been running all games off the sdcard, and most at either 1200p medium/low settings or 800p medium/high. Cyberpunk off micro SD at 800p and medium/high settings, I've been averaging a little over 40fps while in 15 watt balanced mode and efficiency os mode. And my temps have been staying a little under 60°
@@jimmydean358I've seen no matter how high end the micro SD card is though, they're all only rated for 85°. So with the performance it has and at least being 25° lower temperatures. I haven't even played it in performance mode yet and had it over a month now
@@jimmydean358I've been using the Microcenter branded micro SD cards for years now though and never had an issue, other than there are some stutters here and there. So idk about online games off it. I'm just surprised that even AAA games can play off them and the performance of these handhelds
Best thing about this video is the eagles losing!!! 😅
Thanks, this was a great video! One thing I've noticed watching handheld reviews from a variety of people is, this newer generation of products are all outstanding and its mostly personal preference or game play style that gives the edge to one device or another.
Nice video! One thing to point out you didn't mention is the go has two usb 4 ports. They are also Thunderbolt 3 for egpu setups. That was my main reason going with the go.
Everyone give this person up votes! GREAT point! The TB3 ports don't have as much bandwidth as the XG Mobile proprietary setups but you're 100% right. And the TB ports are more accessible for EGpus!
The usb ports on the Go are USB4 which is pretty much the same as TB4 ports. Yes the XGM will be better as they have more bandwidth so less studders and stuff.
They're thunderbolt 4, not 3
Not thunderbolt
I changed my Ally to a LEGION Go because of the screen size (way too small that 7”) and because it has Thunderbolt. I have an eGPU RTX 3060Ti plugged in to my TV, I plug in the legion go and I have a full desktop computer/console. Let’s do the math: I bought the legion go for 650€ + 230€ RTX 3060Ti second hand as new + 200€ eGPU case second hand as new: ~1080€. With the Ally the XGM eGPU costs alone more than that and I didn’t find second hand (and new just by ordering and I only find with the 4090) Believe me, it’s another world! A legion go is the Ferrari of these consoles, the bigger screen, great performance (as the Ally is also good) as a desktop and you can use the cheap eGPU! ❤
BRO YOU ALWAYS NAILED IT WITH YOIUR CONTENT 💥 BLESSINGS CHAMP !!!
THE MAN, TORETTO! I appreciate you 👊 Happy 2024, and I hope you are doing well!
@@David.AVelez likewise boss man!!! Blessings to you and the family this 2024!!!
Wish that both succeeded in their own aspect so we can expect better iteration of those device in the future. For me I think Ally is more fitting to be a handheld device due to its lighter weight. With advancing tech, things will get smaller eventually a 8.8 inch device could also be lightweight in the future.
Good take man! dope video! love it!
I appreciate you taking the time to let me know you enjoyed the video, Denon! These are tiring to make with another day job so you guys letting me know it was helpful or enjoyable always makes it worth it! More to come!
Great vid mate! I am still on the process of deciding. I am leaning towards the ROG, also because I do not trust the detachable controllers on the GO. I do like the GO though. But aren’t the detachable controllers exposed to wearing? I mean, this could cause issues overtime?
A most excellent piece on these two devices. I really appreciate you addressing the rather crappy speakers of the Go. For me, the audio is the Go's main downside when compared to the Ally. The biggest drawback to the Ally is how it cooks memory cards. No device is perfect, but, we can clearly see now how the designers of these two items figuratively dropped the proverbial ball. I look forward to you reviewing the Claw later this year, I hope.
Nice video what settings did you use for spider man and cyberpunk ?on the rog ally
IMO the is the best VS review I’ve seen. My friend has the GO, and I have the Ally Z1X and a SD OLED. Personally, I think the OLED is the GOAT, but I’ve been using the Ally a ton; anyway, my friend and I often just want quick yet objective facts - this review does that. Thank you, sir. PS. The HUGE elephant in the room is the propriety eGPU only for the Ally, and Thunderbolt eGPU compatibility with the GO; that’s big because with a decent eGPU the GO is essentially a high-mid tier gaming PC that can be played on the go (no pun intended). That is genuinely the one caveat I have and consideration I had making the choice to buy the Ally.
Replacing desktops with handles is so unorthodox. I love it. Welcome to the future my friends
thank you for the video I have another question. This video was mostly about the handheld mode. How does it work when connected to a TV or a pc monitor? Does it retain a good frame rate and image clarity and is it better than the steam deck in the docked mode? If the docked mode of the deck and go is very similar the ill go for the deck. If ypu don't know the answer ill just go for the go and hope 4 the beet
I just subscribed to you channel D. I also work in mental health and enjoy tech. I look forward to watching more of your content. Also, I have both the Rog Ally and Legion Go. I love both but the Go seems better because the IO, screen, some of the other features. That said l, there is a caveat, the true strike controllers have some bugs that need fixed. It takes a work around to get them to work sometimes. The track pad also gets in the way sometimes.
B roll of running fighting games. Nice. Sub earned, nice video flow and good contrast of objectivity and subjective thoughts. Looking at nabbing either of these as they're on sale....but found someone in my local area selling an Ally for $400CAD. Very tempting. Half the cost of legion before tax. Runnign Tekken 8 at low with TSR 65 on Deck just aint cutting it.
Hookup your xbox gamebar to the back button helps for steam UI and Xbox UI on ROG. My question is with the legion do the sticks wear a black line into the lights around the lenovo analog sticks? My rog has the inside of the sticks slowly rubbing a black material into the light circle surrounding it.
Great video man!
Thank you so much! It always makes my days seeing comments like yours :) Much more to come!
Can you play the same game with Muti accounts on the GO? How is cloud gaming?

Great comparison. I returned my legion go because the fan was too loud with a high pitch whine even during idle. I picked up an Ally to try it out and ended up loving it. The lightweight feel, the quite fans, and software were the main selling points. I put in 1TB ssd because I wanted to avoid using the SD card slot, it works but not risking it.

Hey brother what do you recommend I currently play my Nintendo switch Game Boy Advance and 3DS I love handheld gaming and now that technology is caught up to us play a PC in my hand I'm a little bit scared to buy I only played Diablo Path of Exile and last epouc and of course you got to play that FIFA which device do you think will be my best bet to get I have an Alienware PC but I might try to play for my hands I don't give a fuk about the PC so are those games I showed you which one you think will perform the best look the best and play the best
Own both, The Go has better features, but the Ally is more fun and simple.
Simply inferior
Ally all day 😊
I dunno man, it's not very fun squinting your eyes to read the text on diablo 4 on the screen of the ally. No doubt the bigger screen is going to be a massive win.
Can you explain what you mean by more fun and simple?
You know what’s even better? Having a device with a battery life more than an hour. 😂 Steamdeck OLED is king.
Could you post some benchmarks for the two, you mention that the Ally gets 2-4fps more than the Go but from other peoples testing that doesn't appear to be the case....
That VRR is what does it for me. Even my Steam Deck OLED isn't always the best for smoothness.
I have both the steam deck and lenovo legion .... the legion go FOR ME is way better because of the bigger screen , but it is a little heavy
I also have both i played on my go more than I ever did on the deck I find it more fun and the bigger screen is just more better

Finally a video with great reviews on both. Ally Guy here.
I really appreciate that! And I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Loving my Ally as well 😁 Excited about that rumored Ally 2!
Ally guy her as well. I love my Ally
Where did you get that super saiyan rose wallpaper?
Welp in India only Ally is officially launched :/ although it's possible to get the steamdeck oled base version (imported) , it costs same as the z1 extreme version.
Great video. I actually prefer the Ally, just feels better to me. Also that VRR screen kust seems betterfor gaming. However I think they both are great. Just an excellent time to be a PC and handheld gamer.😊
they are different device. Legion GO has a better, much larger (60% larger) screen. When you try it, it's difficult to go back to Steam Deck or Ally. I had steam deck previously.
i love the rog ally speakers next level !
Asus should do an ally 2.0 with a improved battary, bezeless screen, and either a complete fix or relocation of the SD slot.
Rog ally 2 coming this year
@@INDIAKAGAMEROFFICIAL they try to release it this year. But they cant promise that. When they dont release it this year it should be coming next year for sure. Time will tell.
*bigger screen
I have the Ally and I do love the screen but recently I've been using the Xreal Air 2 glasses with the Ally. The only issue I have with the Ally is the XG mobile docks are expensive. If they had a 7600 mobile version for around 300-400$ I would pick one up.
How does Destiny 2 play in FPS mode on the GO? That's something that's making me want it over other handheld pc's.
I tried both out for a month and ultimately kept the ally. The go screen was great, but aside from that, everything else was better on the ally IMO. More comfortable, better buttons/triggers, lighter, way less buggy, better software, better sound, quieter fans, more portable, etc
Originally bought an ally. Returned and got a go. Returned and went back to an ally. And now I think I made the wrong choice. No matter what I go with, I’ll think I’ve made the wrong choice. Both have their strengths and weaknesses
Which has more power? Can it play starfield?
@@BarnzTT same power, they can both run starfield
Good video. As for my opinion after owning both and returning both, I like the Asus Rog better. As a handheld, it is more portable feels sturdier, and as an audiophile, the sound from it is much better. The vrr screen is a god send when playing AAA games at the highest setting possible. The Asus ROG Ally also just worked right out the box, was very user friendly at showing you how to use it. There are like 12 videos in a playlist on KZhead right from Asus. As for the legion Go, it was a head ache from say one. Portrait screen was a bad choice, my projector did not want to play nice with it. The software is cumbersome. The fps mode wasn't something I liked. The tablet mode was useless to me since I wanted android apps and this does not have google services, in fairness neither does the ally, but it doesn't claim to be a tablet. I did really enjoy the bigger screen, but no very😭. I also liked the faster ram and the egpu availability through thunderbolt 4, which is the only reason I returned the Ally. So long story short I'm waiting untill the MSI claw comes out, ROG ally 2, or legion go 2 come out to jump back into PC handheld gaming. Just my two cents, but really good info right now is a good time for either devices since they are heavily discounted as geek squad certified used units at best buy.
Hey which out of the 2 would you pick for strictly a Destiny 2 machine? I see you were playing Destiny and I want one just to play Destiny on the couch casually.
I think the sticks for the Legion Go feel better for that out if the box, And hall effect is a plus. BUT, Ally has a ton of stick customization with deadzones and such which is probably going to give you a better experience tailored to your needs
On top of that, the sticks themselves feel tighter on the Go. A bit looser on the Ally
Lenovo Legion Go is awesome for home use, but I find myself numb in the hands in 30 minutes. Fan is loud, sound is not great as it fires upwards. Kudos to the detachable controllers, great screen and built-in stand, needs a controller grip for the traditional controller feel. Asus ROG Ally is nice with fingerprint, light weight travel, and wonderful speakers. I also have a ROG Strix XG16AHPE portable gaming screen and the 2022 XG Mobile RX 6850M XT on hand before I got the Ally that transforms it into a mobile gaming station. I love both, for each of their own use cases. 😊

Have to grab the legion go soon
The Ally had a 6 month headstart to get drivers, etc tweaked. Lenovo is still ironing a lot of basic stuff out. I think at some point they both will be very comparable performance-wise (especially considering the LGo has slightly faster RAM as well) given enough time.
Legion go is hella phat. I'll go with the slim tech thank you very much. Thank God the norm is lightweight like the new claw not a slightly more portable laptop.
Hahahahah, QUITE THICC for sure 😆 I don't mind it in the hand. But will definitely say the Steamdeck feels the best in the hand in my opinion. Ally is nice and light which is nice. Like you said, thankfully they're not massive bricks 😂
I have the Rog ally and i will say when the armory crate software is working properly it is fantastic! the problem is i have had serious stability issues with armory crate which ends up making the experience horrible and at times i just put the thing down and walk away.
i'll choose LeGo just because it can use any external gpu without requiring a proprietary one and the bigger screen of course
Legion Go is a gaming laptop in a handheld and many uses it as a desktop PC. Legion Go is the most unique of them all in several ways. I bought mine at launch over 2 months ago.
its the most versatile with the split controller for sure. so easy to lay down in my bed and prop the tablet up. very comfy. but its the most expensive which is a con lol
@@TheeCapN`Not here. Rog Ally cost the same, and Steam Deck 512.cost 300$ more than Legion Go. Steam Deck 512.GB is by far the most expensive PC handheld. 1100$.
I have both. Main negatives: Legion fan is a lot louder and has a whining sound (hopefully will be fixed with the customs fan curve availability coming within a month. Cpu speed throttling to 0.5Ghz on balance mode is a prob as well. Ally has the sd card issue and smaller screen Positives: Legion Go has a bigger screen which helps with game chats and general text reading. Ally is lighter and is quiet under lighter loads.
I saw people rating go 1 star because of its loose joystick. Did you experience any of it? This is my first time with a handheld console so i want to choose properly.
I just got the Ally. I was divided by these two, but the ally was way cheaper and the speakers are so much better. Though I liked the Go screen more. But as I already have a good notebook, and I'm gonna use the Ally just for gaming, I think it was the right choice.

I have proven on many of my posts before it’s due to the weight , not being as portable it’s too big , also I think the screen is overkill for that processor 1080p 8in with a landscape screen would of been fine idk why they went with a portrait
Any stick drift on the standard asus joysticks?
Hmm, thinking of picking up the asus rog ally or switch 2 end of this year or maybe next. Im leaning towards rog ally because i want to have my PC games with me. Great time to be a gamer 😅

Had all of them. Legion go the best imo. Bigger screen and unlike rog, you can use any gpu with usb, thunderbolt or oculink. More of a mini pc than anything. I love it while others i just liked. Only think that could tempt me is that new onexplayer. Thats more on the mini laptop levels. TB5 out this year to improve performance more. Maybe rog 2 will drop the only asus externals allowed rule. Id be tempted to own both again if so.
different devices, different targets. Legion GO has a better, much larger (60% larger) screen. When you try it, it's difficult to go back to Steam Deck or Ally. I had Steam Deck previously and I'm so happy with Legion GO.
My thoughts exactly! Love my Ally and did the entire time I used it..... But when I picked up the Go, the big display ruined me 😂
12:40 i do no understand what he says at the end. Does he mean the rog ally is stronger than the go?
Sorry! Basically discussing External GPUs. The Ally has a 4090 that you can attach and make it a full powered desktop. Go has USBC4 for External GPUs, but it won't be quite as powerful due to bandwidth. But both consoles have the same power without connecting to a GPU!
watching on my legion go
great video
LeGo is by far superior, even if just considered running games. Besides that, it does so much more than just being a handheld. Thats from someone who has a deck, had an Ally and sold it 1 month after getting the Legion.
I feel the opposite. Bought the Legion Go only to return it to get an ROG ALLY and couldn't be happier at the moment

I want the tog ally but if the sd slot bricks your sd card I don’t want it cause 512 gb isn’t enough
Alien "Hatch" next?
Lol you know I actually bought the legion go as my everyday PC to do work/surf the web etc and it’s great!!! If you need a personal PC in your house these handhelds are a no brainer. I think it all comes down whether your hands can comfortably hold the go and how you want to use it. If you are a FPS player then go with the go.
Is that the z1 extreme or bass model? I didn't hear you say whether it was or wasn't.
Whenever you see someone comparing these 2, you automatically know it’s the z1x because that’s also in the LeGo
I think storage is what means the most to me and the fact that it's well known that the ally ruins SD cards I think I have to go with the Lenovo just because not everybody wants to tear open their product and put it bigger SSD inside of it just sticking an SD card in the top of it or wherever it goes on the Lenovo seems much easier
which everone i can install steam on and play, ddead island and dead island ripttide, lethal company, and phasmaphobia on at 60 fps with medium settings and not over heat i will buy. someone help me
Legion go can handle that better then ally
What system runs fightcade 2 the best is my question?
Hi! Sorry, I have never played Fightcade 2 so I don't want to lie and tell you one plays it better :/
Audio quality is very important to me. I rarely use the go because of this. It’s unbelievable how bad it sounds. It sounds like a cheap toy. That said, if you normally play with headphones go is great. I think I’ll be waiting for a substantial chip upgrade before I buy another device.
The Asus has an insane clear & wide stereo sound thanks to Dolby Atmos.
I'm a truck driver and im either driving or flying to my next assignment. Im currently lugging around a windows based laptop, an Xbox series X, and a portable monitor along with all the necessary extras.... controller, mouse, power packs, cables, etc... Im looking for a one size fits all. Work, gaming, movies, music that is more conducive to traveling. Can i replace the laptop with this or the console?
Both. Replace both devices with one of these.
Legion Space is trash… tried it out and couldn’t stand it. Hopefully Lenovo improves it! Great review!
Hey, Angel! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Legion Space has a bit too much going in, I agree. If they wanted the store front thing going on, I think THAT should have been behind a menlittle. Not the games in your library
Don't get me started on the ugly quality of the game thumbnails on the Go. Space needs a lot of work period. It's nothing like ACSE on the Ally where everything that should be there is there. I know it could a couple of months but the Go is in slow motion rn like Juvenile 😅
Legion go is a beast just wish the controllers where not detachable i hear alot of people getting wobble on the controllers out of the box and some a couple weeks later
I got both an the graphics are better on the legion also the way the consoles picture quality but the rog is small and nothing beats the sound it gives without headphones
For me real Go's pro was bigger screen, but AR glasses flipped the tables on them
Which is stronger because my ROG ally runs dishonored 2 ultra 120fps shadows put on medium for any game shadows seems to hurt the games the hardest but does the lenovo run fallout 4 and dishonored 2 I ultra in its 90-120fps if lenovo can run fallout 4 I'm looking to have the best portable system to start building fallout 4 modded content my point is my ROG is impressive I am seeing the lenovo but is it going to give all the same games I'm playing the exact same fps and u said the sound is better on an ROG so should I not grt the lenovo mainly for sound and immersion.
Power wise they're equal(same chip). If your ROG can run it at 120 then most likely LeGo can run it at 120 too(same resolution). ROG only gets an edge on games where you struggle to get 60 as VRR will make it smoother. ROG - if you like sound and smoother gameplay on games below 60(above 48 fps). LeGo - larger screen and versatile. Longer battery life but "heavier". I put heavier on quotations because you can remove the controller and prop the device somewhere. I play it on the bed with the screen on a swivel clamp so it's technacilly the lightest handheld lol.
I got the Go and its the best purchase I've made in a good while. The Ally itself while appealing price wise just looks like it has a cheaper feel and the SD card issue is a complete no go. Armory Crate is absolutely better than Legion Space however.
Only because it’s been out far longer than legion space
Good review. Going to buy the Legion Go next week and sell my Ally
I had both !! Sold the Ally because I never picked it up anymore , Ally has a tiny screen , definitely love the big screen on my legion go
I still waiting patiently for the new ROG ALLY 2 or OLED whatever they want to called 😂 I hope the screen just like LLG
I’m really torn between these 2 :/ I need to figure out how important vrr is for me and how comfortable the legion go would be (I do have small hands). I’ve mostly been leaning towards the rog ally but the bigger screen, kickstand, and removable controllers are super enticing
I'm someone who went from the ROG Ally to legion go and it's good and bad Legion Go is massive and feels more premium and in 6ft2 and pretty larger but I find the legion go making my hands tired and sore after 30mins while the Ally never did Performance on the legion isn't always great it has a lot of stutters not everything else it does better
Legion has better performance cause of the ram is higher than the ally. The Lego has its own version of vrr that they added in a software update
Didn't mention you could also run vr game
Is the screen quality (not resolution) better in Legion Go? or likely the same quality?
Excellent quality on both! Same high quality out of both. But just higher resolution (which you can lower if you want) on the Go.
Great question!
For heavy AAA games like Baldurs Gate 3, the current Z1 extreme will find it taxing to fill up the resolution of Go but when AFMF releases it will be doable because the fps are doubled and i believed will look gorgeous on that huge screen.
@@jackykwan2580What is AFMF? Is it some kind of software feature coming out on the Legion Go?
