Yesterday the lawn couple returned as usual.
But the male with his chest covered in some oily substance.
This is not good at all.
There is no way we can get a hold on him and clean him.
He gets within about 3 meters at the closest, but flies away quickly as we get closer.
Besides being poisonous, the oil also distroys the feathers' capasity for insulation.
It's still quite chilly.
If he gets so weakened we can get a hold on him, then this will be a bad sign.
He tries to get rid of the substance, and we have seen him getting a little cleaner since yesterday.
The birds use their beaks to clean their feathers.
Not a good combination with poisonous stuff.
We will try to keep an eye on him (and his partner) and hope for the best.

This is so desparately sad 😢. Is there a chance he can get rid of that oil from his feathers? I'm glad you are monitoring them, and ready to help if possible 🙂
This is absolutely not good. Oil is a hard one, usually some detergent needed. Hopefully he will manage to survive until the change of the feathers. We keep on watching him, thinking he is getting a tiny bit better at the time. His partner still stays on. If he were very badly injured we don't think she would (nature is tough). And of course, if he allows us to help him, we will.
We got any uptate?
We follow the injured gull every day. He has got rid of some of the oil, but is still stained. He seems in ok shape, but we are not assured yet. Gher and Ghim mate and defend their nest. They have not yet started to bring straws to the nest. The sparrows are mating, but they spend very little time in the nest. We some times think they have chosen another nest spot, but then they return and claim the nest again...
