His arm isn't the world's strongest. It's his arm and technique which enables him to win so much.
Your narration was very good.
How do I become big like Devon?

Firas, u r the greatest. I treasure every second that I got to spend at tristar. U guys are the best at what u do, and u have the coolest culture. I'm looking forward to the next time I get to visit the center of excellence. Much love brother.
The feeling is mutual Devon! Everyone at the gym loved having you! You have a heart of gold and are truly one of a kind! Much love and thank you for not ripping my head off! Very appreciated ❤️
Two legends ♥️
Devon I wanna see you compete in grappling dude. You'd be insaaaaane.
All white belts quit on the spot after seeing Devon across from them 🤣
Love to see this collaboration!
I have never heard a bad word spoken about Devon, it speaks volumes when literally every person who meets him says the same positive things about him. Legend.
he was special forces which threw me off😂 you wouldn’t expect someone that genuine and nice to be a killer
That dude is just built different. He’s the manifestation of the ‘Parker’ character in Richard Stark novels, cut from stone.
He’s Canadian. They are very nice and respectful for the most part. I can’t speak on everyone but the Canadians that I have worked with since our company was based out of Canada, we’re all great. I remember the Vice President came in and saw me having trouble with one of our models. He took his coat off and got on the ground to see what was wrong with it. Sat there for about an hour too.
I also never heard a bad word about you.
@@TheAlexJimenez Speaking as a Canadian, he is one who makes us proud, genuinely great guy.
Devon is being incredibly gentle. Just every aspect of his body language and how he is using (or lack of using) his grip just speaks volumes.
he could probably break the other dudes wrist pretty easily with an aggressive twist if he's not careful
Exactly, he doesn't wanna hurt this guy lol in a real grapple he would snap this black belt in half 🤣
Exactly the guy is acting like he really did something to Devon .. he was the one trying to go all out while Devon was straight chillen..

It makes me happy that people like Larrett are in this world. Someone of his caliber who is willing to explore his physical arts and expand his knowledge with other types of martial arts. He seems like a great guy, the kind that would give you the shirt off his back. Thanks for the awesome post guys.
Its not really that much of exploring considering he was the combative instructor for his unit when in the Canadian military.

I agree. Yes Tristan is beyond experienced in his techniques but I have to say that Devon is strictly not trying to hurt him. I wonder what the results would be if it was an all out match, no holding back.
@@Ginosrule at this level of size difference you can't hide yourself behind technique. You can't arm lock an elephant.

@Bessie he got submitted because Devon did not want to rely solely on his strength. He was there to learn not win because of his brute strength.
@12:17 shows what Devon could do at any time this whole sparring match if he really wanted to. Devon has jujitsu experience and he actually taught it in the SF’s. Devon has also some of the biggest/strongest arms/hands/wrists in the world and he’s a world champion arm wrestler, at least 6”5 and in this video weighs probably at least around 250-260.
People don’t really know what a big dude Devon is. A monster. Great video, thanks.
Naah you dont know
Devon isn’t just a military man he was apart of the JTF2s with 7 deployments in Afghanistan. It’s the Canadian tier 1 special forces for counter terrorism/hostage rescue and they were so secretive that the Canadian prime minister didn’t even know of their existence. Dude is a legit bad ass. Devon Larrat not only has insane strength, and slick mindgames, but a deep and nuanced understanding of posture and relative force. Listening to him explain arm wrestling is like listening to Firas or John Danaher explain a jujitsu position.
Not to mention his insane muscular endurance
I love how humble and articulate you are. Thank you for the breakdown.
Such respect. Coach, you made this so much more interesting by continually telling us how powerful and athletic Devon is. We all don’t have your perspective of having felt that strength first hand. We all know he is world class strong but knowing that from hearing it or reading it is not like experiencing it. This video showed how intelligent you grapplers are. You have perfected so many aspects of grappling that you knew that it is as important knowing what not to do as it is knowing what to do. With your Magnus Carlsen brilliance in end games your tactics were geared to foot locking Devon. You first made sure this giant didn’t head lock you or pick you up. Then, you had to roll around a bit until you knew you could lock on one of those paddles the rest of us call our feet. But, your constant respect for this great man and world’s best athlete was what made this video. “History’s Strongest Arm”. Great narration by a phenomenal martial artist.
The funny thing is he's like a big kid in a huge body 🤣
I love both you and Devon dearly. You're both Canadian legends, I could have never imagined for this crossover but I'm so happy it happened. He has a match coming up very soon against another GOAT level arm wrestler John Brzenk, make sure to wish him luck and keep in contact these collaborations are very fun.
It’s also something to note that you can tell neither of them are going 100%. Whenever you have the bigger guys filled with adrenaline in a real fight it’s a whole different story. Very impressive to see the guy with such little technique show so much power without even looking like he’s trying
Totally agree. I doubt many people would bet against Devon if it was a fight for life and death.
Well, adrenaline or not, a leglock is a leglock.
@@biglittleboy9827 leg kicks don’t work with people hundreds of pounds heavier all they need to do is grab you, pick you up, and use their weight to slam you to the ground. There’s a reason every sparring floor/fighting floor is soft ground. If a bigger person does this to you unless you just run away from them there’s nothing you can do to stop from having your bones crushed into the hard earth. Try leg kicking an athletic big guy that’s charging you for a tackle. He’s not squared up, he’s coming for you with his longer reach iron jaw and adrenaline.
@@biglittleboy9827 I say this as a 5’10 200lb guy. I’m not doing this to many people it’s just a fact of big vs small. In the real world the only way I take down a big guy is by doing it really quick before they can go to enrage mode. And fight really dirty. Just look at the UFC rules, and break them, those rules are there bc certain things are just OP.

He would be the most terrifying blue belt should he decide to do jiu jitsu
I think he would be hard to beat after just 10 classes. He is just missing the basics, once he knows these it will be extremely hard to submit him. Anyways, impressive get together by both of you.
The hardest thing for him would be to not accidentally hurt his sparring partners lol
@@bigheadrhino Yea, if he were going hard for real, I could see a can opener....genuinely open your can. He could likely kill someone with a can opener easily.
@@yellowwducky yeah, he would probably need a modified version of jiu jitsu. I don’t think he even needs to use two hands for leverage on most subs. His hands are also so huge with grip strength to match, he may actually be able to just grab peoples necks for a choke with his hand. Also, imagine if you get his back and he gets a hold of your wrist or your ankle lol

Devon is an incredible athlete and a great person! Thanks for showing this clip while he was there training for Hafthor. This clip is way better than the fight was. This again just shows how great Devon is. Thanks again take care, stay safe and healthy.
Devon might be physically impossible to armbar. If he had jiujitsu knowledge with his strength it would be like trying to grapple a steam roller.
Many many years ago I had the sometime misfortune of being the next heaviest guy to a strongman that trained at the same gym as me. If he got my wrists, there was just no removing his hands. Even when he was a brand new white belt, to my knowledge the only guy able to arm bar him was the current BJJ Pan American medium heavy brown belt champion, and future black belt world champ
Awesome narration and awesome etiquette, Thank you very much. Learned a lot.
Really enjoyed watching this video 😍
You should be honest and tell people he was probably using 20 percent of his strength against you. Problem with somebody this strong is that he would break you if he really wanted too
He could likely sub him with brute force from most positions.
This was my exact thought, If you watch carefully again, devon keeps his hands open and fingers extended most of the time, he is actively trying to not grab the guy because his grip strength would likely crush him. even the times he tossed him he didnt grab him.
You obviously don't fight.

We have a bluebelt at our gym who is 300lb and a most of it is muscle. As a 200lb guy in my late 20s, it's very humbling to feel significantly smaller than someone as it's not often I get to experience that.
this was awesome!
8:32 is seriously impressive, you definitely have an extremely high level of technical skill.
well it's Firas Zahabi (not sure if I spelled it correctly) this guy is world renowned as one of the most knowledgeable people in fighting.
I really respect your approach to this match and your thoughtfulness toward his safety despite the great disparity in size and strength. Too many Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, and fighters in general, approach every sparring session with ego above all else. Everything is full speed, full power and in many cases full extension when attempting submission. That's not the best way to work with other people in training. The respect you had for his arm wrestling career, choosing not to take the arm bar, is indicative of what kind of person you are. I was impressed. Keep up the good work.
Have you thought that maybe Devon didn't want to hurt him?

Really shows the importance of leverage. One moment Firas has Devon's arm pinned with his straight pin technique, and then the next moment, his entire bodyweight is being tossed by that same arm.
Devon Larratt is a legend! Imagine if he trained with you guys for 5 years lol. His chokes would be insane
Devon was already going easy let's be honest. He could have easily crushed any of this guys body parts with his bear-level grip and arm strength, his arm, his thigh, not to mention neck, all he would have needed to do is grab any part of him and it'd be over. Devon snaps forearms for a job (or literally, he tries NOT to snap peoples forearms), he could have easily snapped his like a twig with his right hand. There is a interesting legend about Hercules (you know the one) that as he was going to do one of his great acts he met in a village a man that claimed that he was the youngest son of Earth, as Earth the one that gave birth to the Titans fathers of Gods Earth, and Earth, his mother, gave him strength as long as his feat touched the ground (she wanted to protect her youngest kid) and so no one could beat him in a bare-hand fight, so naturally Hercules challenges him and they fight, now either their fight takes days and Hercules loses or he losses and stays at the village to challenge the last Titan again and again, and he losses all of those fights, at the end he figures that if the Titan takes strength from the earth he must cut that connection, so he lifts him up and starts hitting him with one arm as the other hold him up, cut from his mother help the Titan was no match for the demi-god and their fight ended. That legend somehow stuck to me, it made sense in a strange way, I could just picture a man who is strong and also knows how to use leverage with his grappling so well that he appears to everyone else as a unbeatable Titan, and a man really strong that figures that as long as he keeps him off ground most of his techniques are gone and its only a mater of punching him enough. You remind me that legend at the star of your video when you said that it would be bad if he lifts you up (paraphrasing), great video, great commentary.

what a cool dude, guy came in with no experience I believe you said, and here he was laughing about having a good time, never once did he seem to be out of control which as a smaller guy I can't tell you how awesome that is. I know he benched you off at one point but was all in good fun, good stuff, much respect to this guy and not having an ego about it, this is the type of person you want to share the mats with.
Devon Larattt was in Canadian Special Forces and has some Martial Arts experience. If you have ever watched any of his arm wrestling videos, it will show you how much stronger he is than the average human being. He is actually a small guy in the Professional Arm Wrestling world. This is a guy who can beat "The Mountain" Hafthor Bjornson in arm wrestling and can defeat 2 men at once in arm wrestling. Hard to imagine the kind of strength this man has in his hands, grip, tendons, upper body. He can beat like 50 men in a row back to back in arm wrestling. Firas Zahabi must have some skills to be able to even survive against someone who is not only much larger than him, but is also very athletic and has a kind of superhuman strength that most people have never experienced and is hard to even imagine. Devon is also not a complete novice in grappling. For anyone who has seen the feats of strength and athleticism that Devon Laratt has displayed, this is impressive for Firas to even survive. Devon has defeated Denis Cyplenkov in arm wrestling who is truly a genetic freak. Devon Laratt is not just a big, strong guy you might see in a gym. He has done some pretty unbelievable things, so for jiu jitsu to be effective against him is impressive.
