  • They know exactly what people are visiting Istanbul for, so I am not surprised having to pay for it. However compared to other cities, the prices of sights in Istanbul are totally out of the way. A day in Euro disney is cheaper. I personally believe they would make more money if they made it a bit cheaper. These prices will only lead to people making choices and not visiting certain spots, moving around to other parts of the city where it is more affordable and spending less in overall. Thanks for giving us the insight.

    • Unfortunately the prices have gone up 5 folds since the past 2 years and with an inflation of 65%, the tourists are not saved from the price hikes. We have travelled to Turkey at least 7 times in the past 5 years since we live in Europe and we can already see a very big difference in the cost of everything. Some restaurants have "European prices" but the country is still amazing and people are very friendly, so I rather spend my money here than to stay on an island somewhere else. You pay for the ancient culture and outstanding landscapes and architectures.

  • The cost of tourism has grown so much that Turkey is on par with London, Paris and New York. Turkish government is killing the tourism industry. Imagine a family of 3 people paying 3x$285 to see the attractions only. Adding hotel, transport, food and Airplane tickets you need to apply for a big loan from the bank to come to Turkey. There are many places in Europe that are cheaper to visit.

  • Was in Istanbul last week for a few days. I think it was quite expensive for things like attractions, beers and cocktails, raki... Food was a little more cheaper for the quality, some more expensive than others but tasty. Baran Et Mangal was fantastic and very cheap for what we had. I had a clean shave and ear flaming that was 300 Lira which I thoght was cheap. A great city but with the inflation of the currency it feels like a lot of prices have gone up with it and I feel bad for the locals. As an example I think Lisbon and Bilbao was cheaper than Istanbul and with cheaper attractions Also a tip, if you think Galata Tower is too expensive, there's a cafe near it with a roof terrace that gives very similar views for a fraction of the cost. It's usually quiet and you can buy a coffee or tea at the top for very similar views. It's called Galata Konak Cafe & Restaurant

    @diramarock@diramarock2 ай бұрын
    • Not much difference when you have to buy the Istanbulkart plus many might want to take this option especially when having heavy luggage or even kids with them. Havabus: 121 TL but it only goes to Taksim Square. Public transportation: Istanbulkart 70 TL+ 18 TL metro + 40 Marmaray + metro to Taksim 18 TL or tram to Sultanahmet 18 TL= 146 TL But I’d also opt for the public transportation when traveling light and in rush hours, the best option for sure.

One thing they havent got right here is how to look after tourists and make them feel welcome and appreciated....they are happy to charge tourists 5x more than they charge locals and from reading the reviews and also my own experience they Turkish people that work in these tourist attractions have no interest or training in making the experience good one for the tourists.

I went to many mosque and bazaar with no entry. I took ferry instead of Boshphorus tour. If the entry fee is any less I woulda certainly visited more, especially the palaces. Tho this allowed me to spend more time to chill, enjoy the amzing food, drink, and some shopping. Things are cheaper compared to my recent stay in Dubai, and visit to other parts of Europe. Designer lables is also a lot cheaper (15%-20%+) than MENA, Asia, and the US.

They really upped their prices to milk the tourists. I hope rest of Turkey hasn't increased their prices like Istanbul. There's a lot more cities and places to visit across Turkey then Istanbul. In my experience Istanbul was at the bottom of the list of place I would visit again. • I'm a foreigner living in Turkey for more than a year a half at this point. The economic struggle of this country has only gone up 10 fold and will continue to get worse. Prices of everything increase every week. For those coming to Turkey to visit, I strongly urge you to always ask about prices before you buy anything, as many times they won't bother having them written. Restaurants especially in/near touristic areas can absolutely price gouge you and in some cases add a "10% foreigner's tax" on your food bill. Look at menus with prices written. If it's not easy for tourists anymore, imagine how hard it has been on the locals.

I want to bring to your attention hoping that you might know what to do with this situation: There is a dog who is injured. It has a huge wound at it's lower belly. It is hanging around Hagia Sophia on the concrete with people walking around it. Do you know some animal welfare organization that could help it? It tears my heart to see this poor dog. Perhaps the Vet-Bus mobile clinic can be contacted by locals who live around there? I understand that there is also the municipality that has the responsibility for the stray dogs and cats. I am seeing dogs that are not in good health or condition in Istanbul; sadly. :( This dog is a medium to large dog and is white with black ears and a splash of black pattern by it's neck area. It's looking at everyone for help but no one seems to notice it, sadly:( I'm praying that someone will read this comment and feel moved to do help this dog somehow. Thanks!🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈🐈 💔

Paying to visit a mosque (Hagia Sophia) seems very wrong to me. No matter what religion we are, we should never have to pay to visit a place of worship.

  • Longer story short: it’s all relative. If you can afford to visit Türkiye you can afford whatever the cost. No different than any other tourist attraction in the world. Paris, London, Venice, whatever. I will say this video talks only of Istanbul’s higher costs. But just visit the areas where the locals go and anywhere else besides Istanbul, you will find it far far less expensive. Visiting Istanbul is like visiting Jerusalem, Athens, and Rome. The historical significance is unmatched. Go big or stay home.

In addition, it generates high amounts of income from high-tech defense industry and civilian industry products. Türkiye doesn't care much about tourism anymore, it's a mentality that those who can afford it should come.
