Karen Read Says She was Framed in Heated Opening Statements - Lawyer LIVE

Karen Read is on trial for murdering her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe. Police say that after a night of drinking, she backed over O’Keefe with her SUV and left him to die in a snowstorm.
But Karen Read’s defense team says she had nothing to do with his death. She says that she dropped him off at a party at the home of fellow Boston police officer Brian Albert. Inside the home were family members and friends of the Alberts. Karen Read’s defense team says that someone inside that home injured John O’Keefe so badly he was near death, and then dragged him out into the falling snow to die. The entire group inside the house, they say, is conspiring with the local police to set Karen Read up to take the fall.

  • John’s body was found in the front yard of home of a police officer where he was invited to an after bar party. The police officer and his wife never came out of the house when the Canton PD, EMS, Karen, John’s friend, and the homeowners sister found him in the snow covered yard . This makes no sense. Why wouldn’t the homeowner SISTER go up to the door and wake them up and tell them that John is in their front yard. Why didn’t they wake up when EMS and police showed up with all the flashing lights and all the commotion in their front yard at 6 AM?

    @DuneKat@DuneKat21 күн бұрын
    • Honestly, I've had EMS and the police show up at my house early in the morning, and even late at night, and I didn't wake up for any of it, not even the neighbor appararently fighting with the cops. I've also lived close to areas where I've gotten used to sleeping through planes, trains, lights and sirens all night, just because I happened to live next to a train track, near an air base, or currently right around the corner from a hospital. And my kids sleep through that stuff harder than I do. So... this whole "why didn't they wake up" thing is not surprising at all to me. I know plenty of people who would have slept through all of that, myself included. Add alcohol in their systems, it increases the chances of sleeping through it all. None of that has me skeptical. I mean, maybe the sister not waking them up, but... unless she had a key, people do sleep through someone banging on their door. All of that seems pretty normal for heavy sleepers to me, unless they had a reason to be up and getting ready for work or something.

  • I thought the Prosecutions opening was confusing and muddy. He should have stuck to a linear version of events, painting a picture for the jury. What he did was talk about people giving names and deets and then skipping back and forth between finding the body and the events leading up to that. The Defense on the other hand presented their case in a clear concise linear fashion, not going into details, just presenting the facts from their point of view and backed up by the facts as they have uncovered them. If I ever know anyone who finds themself on the wrong side of the law I will definitely be suggesting that lawyer for his/her defense. Very impressed. I do wonder why this trial wasn't kept for after the grand jury investigation into Det. Proctor. Finally, 🥂🎂Happy Birthday Lee 🎂🥂

    • I’ve heard everything from 6 ft to 20 ft. Are they using different parts of his body to measure from the curb? What are they counting as the curb, or is it the start of the grass? Do they all just have NO an idea how to estimate even car lengths? So dang confusing. Their witnesses so far just CANNOT keep the story straight. And why are some saying there was THREE women when they pulled up, then others saying it was two? Were did the third go and what was she doing (we know it’s McCabe, but the jury doesn’t, they just know that maybe a shadow was walking to the Albert house door.) so many of them are conflicting the story of her confession when it’s the very same set of circumstances, who was where, etc. and we’re also supposed to believe she was pass out drunk at the time and managed to back up her car around a bend for 60 ft going 24 mph in the snow? We’re supposed to believe that collecting evidence in solo cups is a legit technique? We’re supposed to believe that they only have one or two images from the crimescene, didnt tape it off, didn’t preserve it, and magically found tail light pieces three weeks later after a ton more snow fell? That they missed it when 4 searched it on the morning of his death with just a couple inches on the ground and they found only pieces of CLEAR GLASS at that time? And if she confessed, and it was heard so concretely by a police officer STANDING NEXT TO HER, why did that officer not immediately detain her? Why would that officer send her AWAY from the crime scene where she could tamper with evidence or clean off any evidence from her body. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. So far, defense is making more sense. Even if she actually DID do it, they botched the evidence, investigation, testimony, statements too damn much for any reasonable jury to find her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?

  • I hate that I missed the live. I have questions! I especially wonder if the judge is preventing the defense from presenting alternative theories of the crime. Wouldn't that be reversible error?

    • From what I've heard about the dog, "re-homed" is code for no longer on this earth! Unless we hear the defense had access to Chloe (dog) to do analysis of what they claim are scratches, claw marks, and bites...Chloe wasn't alive for said analysis.

  • Happy 33rd Birthday, Lawyer Lee! 🎉 I loved that story ❤. Thank you for your balanced explanation of this case. I agree with you that the opening statement by the prosecutor was hard to hear. I am looking forward to hearing all of the evidence before forming an opinion.

  • The marks don’t look like injuries from getting hit by a car but they don’t look like dog bites or scratches either.

    • Having been bit by a rotty who was untrained, I have scars from her top teeth but not her bottom and the bite marks when it happened looked just like some of those marks? 🤷‍♀️ So guess it’s what you have seen…an expert will testify those are dog bites? 🤷‍♀️

    • @@JessSpouting admittedly I haven’t been attacked by a dog so I don’t really know. I just saw some comparisons of dog attacks online and the wounds did look like that. Who knew? Well those who have experienced a dog attack before. I guess I was expecting bite marks vs scratches.
