Rendering Beef Fat into Tallow

Make Your Own Tallow and stop paying high prices for it.
You can do it for FREE
If you want to know how to make Tallow yourself, vs buying it, this video will show you how.
The filters in the video are deep fryer oil filters.
WHAT IS IS USED FOR:
Energy for your outside dogs and cats in the winter,
Suet for birds,
Energy and nutrition for your chickens in the winter,
And at 130 calories per teaspoon, you COULD use it as survival food, especially in winter.
Mixing with other meats that don't have enough fat like elk.
People are using it as a high caloric food and as a health supplement.
After 100+ years, it is now used again as a skin care product again made into creams and lotions.
It can be turned into the oldest type of hand soap (Tallow Soap) and its popularity is now coming back.
It is also made into skin and lip balms.
And as I said in the video, it makes very long lasting candles, albeit the smell of these candles, smells like cooking hamburger or a deep fryer vs the paraffin wax smell of commercial candle wax
WHERE CAN YOU GET IT
If you have a small hometown abattoir (slaughterhouse) near you, you can usually get big chunks of beef fat for free, mostly they discard it. Large meat processing plants sell every part of the animal.
Also, ask your local butcher. They can get it for you from the slaughterhouse but you'll pay a per pound rate for it...
I have heard that it goes for over $1/lb and that is not rendered, clarified or filtered.
You can also buy it in buckets at your local grocery store and online and this is already rendered, clarified and filtered.
Tallow is a trans fat, one of the worst fats you can put in your body, but there is a trend nowadays where people are eating more and more of it.
It is common in your hamburger and steaks.
When we harvest Elk, they are so lean and have so little fat in their meat, we typically have to add 10-12% beef Tallow to the ground elk-burger meat to get it to stick together when cooking. Without the beef Tallow, the elk burger just falls into tiny little particles as it cooks.
Also without beef Tallow mixed in, you can't cook elk burgers on the grill or even keep them together to get onto a bun...
Elk burger with and without beef Tallow does make a to die for Meatloaf, Ms Chrissie makes this for me about once a month.
WHAT IS TALLOW
Tallow is rendered and purified fat from ruminant animals like; cattle, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, deer, elk, moose and caribou
Each animals fat has a particular taste associated with that animal so I don't recommend mixing the fats if YOU are going to consume them, but for other animal uses, mixing is okay.
Pigs are not ruminants and Rendering PIG fat makes LARD not TALLOW
HOW LONG WILL IT LAST
In its raw form, at room temperature, it will go rancid and spoil within days but if you render, clarify and filter it, it will last indefinitely in the Freezer.
It will last up to a year on the counter and up to 2 years in the fridge, but storing it in vacuum bags in the freezer will keep it for years.

  • Holly cow! Did they really throw those away? We eat and cook with animal fat or butter here at home. Walmart sell about $3/lb but it easier just buy butter. Each of us eat about 1 tbsp of fat and 1 tsp of salt every morning. I'm 55 and my health and cardio is same as teenage and no disease. None of us get any flu for decades and we definitely didn't get covid vac. Blood sugar about 50 and cholesterol about 100-150 depending how much meat we eat thanks to the animal fat we ate. However, we don't eat vegetable oil including olive oil. These stuffs are highly toxic to human this is why medical industry and doctors are pushing it to consumers. For reference...vegetable oil (soy bean oil) is what made polyurethane paint and clear-coat lacquer that sell at hardware store. My mouth is watering right now watching you boil the fat.

    • Yes, you saw the video, they throw a lot away... This is at the abattoir, if you go to their outlet stores, they charge $1.50/lb for fat... at the abattoir they just discard it with the bones which also have massive amounts of meat. We even glean a few imperfect looking steaks, Tbone, Flank, Round. They said if its at the end of the day, they end up throwing more away because they don't have time to grind it into burger before they have to clean the machinery and get clocked out. I know it's also strange how health "trends" go... we eat fat of all types... I eat 4 eggs a day (we have chickens) and I just had a full heart workup and the doc was shocked, he said he doesn't get it... I have zero plaque and the treadmill test was nothing for me, I didn't even get winded, I talked with the doc through the entire test and I'm 68 and my princess is 9 years older than me.. I personally don't like very much salt but I also don't eat much sugar either. I can't eat a birthday box of chocolates in a YEAR...! As I said in the video, the trend now is going back to eating more tallow. I think there are other un-natural things in our diets... we live a country life with most of what we eat, naturally grown here and no additives.. Because we're so remote, there is a burger king 15 miles away and the next closest fast food is over 40 miles, so we don't eat very much processed or fast food. I've always joked that we eat better at home than we could afford to eat in public! I believe that has a lot to do with our great health. Thanks for watching and a great comment that set me off!! May God Bless..

  • I believe it is a saturated fatty acid, not a trans fatty acid. Trans fatty acids refer to unsaturated fatty acids in the trans, rather than cis, enantiomer, which is not normally found in nature in large quantities. Trans fats are the refined and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Saturated fats can be a healthy part of the diet. In fact, the old guidance to avoid them was recently removed from any national guidelines because it was found to be scientifically false to claim they are bad for your health. Thanks for the great video! They charge $20 for 1 pint of this stuff at my local co-op!

    • Coconut oil (xtravirgin) is a saturated fat. Beware: the coating on fruits and veggies even organic are coated with 'veggie based' coating, primarily from transfats that cannot be washed off -a synthetic chemical transfat. Thanks to waka-doodle bill gates invested patent. What looks fresh on the outside may be so old on the inside.

I, unlike many KZheadrs don't try to create hit videos, I just have a list of what I do that I want to pass on and what people ask for. I try to film everything I do and post it mainly for my family and friends and if others hate, like and love what I do, that's okay with me. • Old saying; If you want health advice then ask car mechanic and If you want car-care advice then ask medical profession. Medical system is US is a business and they made lots of money lying to public. This is why medical profession always tell patients (aka: customers) not to eat animal fat and salt. That's because these are the most important nutrients to prevent heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer, stroke, cancer, HBP and every freaking problem in USA right now. The real toxic chemical is vegetable oil and they spend billions annually advertise it as good oil.

  • I got wild hair a while back and made some pemmican. They were very careful in the articles I read, that a must have was tallow rendered from only grass fed beef, or buffalo. The reading that I did said that that it was the key to the fat when rendered only had a minor portion of evil trans-fat, but had the “good” kind of fat. On to the hard part. You had to have grass fed meat, (buffalo, beef). Just had to be grass fed. The meat must be shredded (that’s a bitch, I ran a kitchenaid mixer to death). Mix it up, put it in ice trays, no fridge no fuss. It tastes like sawdust. Apparently mountain men traded pelts for pemmican. What I found interesting was they never got scurvy. I have trouble wrapping my head around that. In any case I’m glad I found your channel. I live in Texas where if it has grass on it, it’s owned and private property..cheers

But if you want to get the full benefits, use buffalo Tallow (cuz they only eat grass), then use grass fed beef, which doesn’t have antibiotics (I think),or free range chicken, and their eggs. If you’re into fish eat Rainbow, or Brook Trout because it just tastes great. The grass fed beef steak look like hell, but taste good, and fills you up the same as the hay fed, hormone filled regular beef.
