Our company just had an Automation Engineer purchase one of these. He has been holding on to a very old Sony because he doesn't like big phones. He purchased this phone specifically so he could do most of his daily activities on the outside screen. So far he has really enjoyed the device. In IT we like it, because it brings his Android OS up to a modern version so his authenticator works on his phone now.
I repeatedly exclaimed, "That's so cool!" out loud while watching this video, these are exactly the kind of things that I personally am looking for in a modern foldable phone. I'm really excited by this and I hope they can continue to lead the charge in pushing the envelope on what these folding phones can do. I feel like other foldables so far have kind of been playing it very safe, while also massively inflating their prices. The fact that this one can do all of this for a thousand bucks seems very reasonable to me compared to other foldables on the market. And the fact that they are also releasing a less fancy and cheaper foldable is also really cool because it provides an entry point for more people to get into foldables and also hopefully will challenge some of the other players in the foldable game to think about what they're charging for their foldables. Kind of like what Google have been doing with their A-series Pixel phones. So yeah, I'm all for this.

@@WMGarbageKingGenXers are 45-60yo now. Xers remember the analog world, but were in their 20s when tech was born (OG Razr - 2004), and still have a lot of purchasing power. Sales might back the timing of a Razr reboot since techless living is damn near impossible, and a lot of tech/apps are just "extra fluff" these days anyway.
This is the first phone in so long that's actually intrigued me. The form factor being so small in its folded state AND being able to use it , and the camera use... just so good . . .

I think the great thing about this system is you can control exactly how much you can do on the outer screen. So if you want a more limited experience, you can have that, but for people who can't handle that, you can turn anything on too. Choice and control is good.

The most impressive feature you didn't mention was the "Ready For" application. I think this makes it stand out from all smart phones as to can seamlessly turn your phone to a mobile computer and more.

I’ve personally never been into foldables but with the functionality and size of that outside display I find it very impressive. I see how Motorola are trying to innovate in this field and I feel they’re onto something with this model.

Reaallly back in times we thought what would even a phone do when t9 phones were a thing, then Qwerty, then touch screen ones....and now, most of us are inseparable from it. Coming back to the point, it seems pointless to have the 2nd screen because its use isnt mass realized as of yet, after which it becomes a daily must have or good to have.

Oh wow, definitely the first foldable I've seen that I'd actaully consider buying. This product actually looks polished.
That big front screen solves my biggest gripe for a flip phone. Having the ability to do almost anything without having to open the phone is incredible. I am now seriously considering this as my next phone. Now to wait for what Samsung will be showing off!
This is the first folding phone that I could actually see myself buying. I love the idea that the outside screen is usable with most apps. If Pixel would make one like this it would sell me.
exactlymy train of thought. always wanted a folding phone ever since they came out, but didn't see myself paying the price (especially not for the rellatively aweful specs) and now I got used to the Pixel Phone interface. Really excited to see where this is going and maybe in 3-4 years when I buy myself a new phone, it'll be like the Motorola shown here

Motorola is really trying to bounce back from the earlier model, I respect that.
Honestly the outside screen functionality is what ended up selling me on this phone. The ability to shortcut and respond to messages and stuff without opening the phone will save battery life for sure.

The outside screen is perfect for me. Im happy with the current standard phone size but folding in half is awesome. Smaller and more pocketable. I don't think most people would get sucked in to scrolling on the outer screen.
You won't like when it breaks and yes it can break in several ways.. the cheaper version actually is way more practical
Motorola has surprisingly good UI so it's interesting to know what they'll do with this secondary display.

Actually these are the first folding phones that I'm really considering buying. Mostly because of the price, but the big screen is really a thing that I see myself using a lot. I'm glad that phone companies didn't stop investing in that tech, because in my opinion it's really something that has a future.

I've switched from flip 4 to Razr Plus almost a month ago and the difference is huge! Razr has so many extra features and I'm in love with outside screen, I barley open my phone, it works perfect and battery lasts me twice as long as flip 4 lol I'm also surprised with the camera quality tho, especially for video recording! And besides all this it's super stilish, people around me loves it 😁

@@hanovem4 It's been some time now that I have been using razr pro. At first few weeks I did had a problem with few apps like snapchat, tiktok on outher screen, but I guess motorola has been working on it, and it's been around 3-4 months now that every app has been working perfectly fine. I did get this phone because of the outside screen so I'm glad it all got fixed quickly. Camera quality is not the best in dark, but its great in light, love it for selfies at x0.5. Battery life for myself is great, I go trough the day without a problem, but I have to charge it every night (kinda normal nowdays even tho my last phone motrola edge plus lasted me for 2-3 days lol), I'm mostly using outside screen so I can't tell how long you can go if you use only inside screen but I can tell you that my outside screen lasts longer than my sister's iphone 14pro. I have dropped it few times and my cat has pushed it from the tall table few times and it has no scratch, I do use the case that came with a phone and have a plastic screen protector for outside screen. All I have to say about the phone is if you are looking for a change, something more fun than a regular phone, and you've been waiting some time for flip phones to develop, this is definitlly the best it can be, very fun to use, people always comment about it, asks to open, hold it lol. It made my phone experience very fun to use and I don't think I will ever go to reglar/brick phone back. tip if you get this phone that I use everyday: double shake to turn on the flash lite, and flip the phone to turn on the camera, works every time, motorola has that for long time

This is exactly what I envisioned when folding phones were being considered. Why wouldn't you want a smaller screen to do something quick rather than accessing the full unfolded display. I am a huge fan of this design!
I think the front screen really is a great addition, it will be much easier to check notis and control things without even flipping open the phone. Just a quick look.

This is exactly the reason why I wouldn't buy this phone. The primary reason I would want to buy a flip phone would be to avoid distractions and stop having so many 'quick looks' in my life.

I absolutely love the outside screen especially how it covers the entire screen on the outside.
It's really amazing to see that original phones return with such clarity and innovation. If I never went to an event out in Germany There showed me foldable screens where possible I would have never believed it this is impressive still.
Seeing yourself with the main camera is a huge plus. I do "no look selfies" all the time because the camera is SO much better. This helps me take the perfect shot, and has a kick stand built in. Amazing feature I didn't know I needed.
It's probably the most compelling feature of the folding phones in general. Most people I show my Fold 4 to are impressed by the folding but they're amazed by the ability to show the subject what's being taken in the photograph - your partner will love the ability to adjust themselves using the built-in preview.

The camera and flash cutouts being completely seamless when the screen is off on the Razr+ is a beauty.

i agree with your point. A large part of why I'm thinking of a flip phone is because it prevents me from getting distracted in whole phone usage. Sort of like having a smart watch where u read the notifications but don't take out the phone immediately

I certainly want the ability to do a lot on the front screen. Mainly for texting or actually reading an email or something. The solution to not getting sucked into TikTok is not installing it.
For a dual screen setup, I like this a lot more. The end user gets to choose exactly how they want to engage with their device at any time (out of the options available of course), and I personally really value that.
I wouldn't have even considered getting a modern flip phone until I saw that Razr+ with the larger outside screen; that is a phone I would definitely consider above all the other ones I've seen

I'd also like to add that Reviewers have been roasting companies using outer display for nothing and asking to increase its usability and then comes motorola with a super sized fully usable outer display and it suddenly pushes reviewers to ask stupid questions like "Do people even want that". Man you were roasting them for not making it usable. Now they have. Chill with the hypocrisy

I stay pretty much firmly away from all the toxicity that reviewer and influencer bring to the table. Unfortunately our society isn't smart enough to do the but rather likes to get sucked in to all bs and agenda shit and such. I find the out display pretty cool but also i probably wouldn't get it it means more worrying. I like the only small one because less to crack on the outside and the battery has to power a huge screen inside and this one outside plus that not needed 165 hrz outher and inner displays will make the battery take a bigger hit even. And from what he has shown it isn't the most smoothes phones to power that it needs the best chip available.

I like this. It's dope. The whole idea of a folding phone is not having to open it to do simple tasks. With that outside screen I can quickly control my music, see messages, do a quick reply, quick look at my calender and so much more. I think this will be a def hit

Gotta bring this up, I hated having my phone in my pocket. I had to hold it or put it in my purse 24/7 until I got my folding phone. My main issue with smartphones was eliminated with these types of phones. If it fits in my short short pockets, it's a win for me. Modern smart phones are gigantic and obnoxious for me. A flip is essentially perfect for me.
I think the future of smartphones will be all of them are flip. Sooo many people lose or drop their smartphones because of them not being flipped.

Compared to the Flip4 I currently have, this is exactly what I want from a flipping phone. There are loads of times I'm out and don't have both hands free to open and wished the front screen could do everything of the main screen. Likely this will be my next phone

Yes, one of the design flaws of the Galaxy Flip was a too-small external display. It was crazy that Samsung knew this yet decided to slowly increase its size to draw out its monopoly. RAZR gets that it is the whole point of flip phones; you do not have to open the flip whenever you want to interact.
the small outside screen was what was turning me away from the flipping fold and moving towards the folding phone. This new setup means you can do a lot of the small stuff like respond to a message or navigate through something like spotify quickly without needing open the whole thing. I am here for it
But why is that better than doing it on a normal phone that has better specs for less money?
@@toptiertech7291 It would lead me to do less doom scrolling and sometimes you don't want to open a full 7" screen to reply to something or change a song. Plus the added benefits of screen being able to be used as a viewfinder for photos and general conveniences of a smaller form factor in people's pockets or purses.
Or you could get a smartwatch and do all of that without even taking the phone out of your pocket

Its own charger, own plug on the wall, its own accessories... carrying all that and the watch itself along with your phone and its accessories is not ideal. Going on business trips while worrying about bringing a watch charger is quite dumb
I just got this phone and truly the icon has returned. The phone just oozes flair and futurism.
I had the Motorola Razr 5G. It would let you open almost any app on the tiny outside screen and I totally used it a lot. Handy for watching KZhead on the go or sending a quick text without having to open the phone. It was just a little too small though. It would squish some elements too much or overlap badly. This new larger outside screen would solve that. Would definitely consider it myself as I heavily used the outside screen.
I have to say, I find this design very useful. Like if I'm listening to music and want to change a track or see what has just came on. Or just want to check/reply to messages quickly. I can just easily pull it out of my pocket and do this from the small screen. Without having to unfold, unlock and do it. I actually really like this design and hope it catches on.

@@dan45far Because it is smaller and less bulky should be easier to pick up from your pocket or find somewhere to put etc. You know even though iphones got much bigger after 6 plus there are actually people prefer the comfort of the iphone 5 size for the same reasons. I think the main point of having a big screen in the first place is to improve the way to consume media contents or games which small phones can provide in a limited way but in this case we have both.
Kudos to whoever on the team made the neon "folding styles" aniamtions, absolutely quality for such a small part of the video!

As and old school and new flip phone user, for me is all about opening the phone to use. Yes the big screen is nice but, There's something nostalgic about opening a cell to answer calls etc like back in the days... plus the lil screens remind me of beepers and pagers.... so cute... 💕
To me the big screen is a necessity due to the additional camera options. It's a complete game changer and gives flip phones features you just can't get on a candybar style phone. I held off buying these new flip phones until the tech advanced a bit more and I think this is where I bite the bullet, but I'll be getting the Samsung Flip 5 rather than this
I kinda love this idea, the device looks unique with the cameras sticking out of the display, it was a bold choice and they kinda killed it. Weather it gets used to it’s maximum potential is hard to gage, but ultimately up to who wants to purchase the device.

Personally, I think this is the best way to have a flip phone since the internal screen is plastic and can be damaged quite easily. Having the option to do anything you need in the solid screen outside is a huge win in my books. 🎉

@@0XiC My friend's 2020 Razr 5G is STILL working perfectly fine with its PLASTIC foldable display. Meanwhile, I see a TON of Galaxy Z Flip and Z Folds with CRACKED displays because of ultra thin glass. Plastic > Ultra Thin Glass.

The outside display is extremely important because that display will be the backup in case the internal display breaks which will happen eventually. The fact that you can use the phone pretty much normally seals the deal for the weary like me.
Motorola is making a comeback! The Razr was iconic back in the day. The build quality looks great on camera but could we get a full review to see if it works as a daily??
Personaly imma wait until the reveal of the s flip 5 to compare the two since from the leaks and what we know it seems like the Motorola razor is just a inferior (spec wise) to the flip 5
I love how this idea of folding phones makes owning a smartphone more convenient. It's good to have a full length form and a compact form in a single device. It makes handling super convenient

Does it? Literally the whole video is "this phone is great because it has a 4" screen". Like... what? Normal phones aren't that big that a folding phone size makes it a selling point. Literally the only thing that would make me buy one is having it like at least 5,5" while folder and bigger when open. So you can text and do quick stuff, and only open for media consumption.
My problem with most large phones is that they often aren’t very pocketable. Having a phone that folds like this does make things more convenient. You can have a phone with a large screen, and pocket it too.
This is exactly what I want from a folding phone. Was in the market for one about 6 months ago, but none of them had a good enough front screen so I went with the pixel 7. So happy to see this becoming a thing!
I definitely like the razer+ and the standard razer. The outside screen would be very convenient to control music or see more details on notifications. But the most important part for me is the small size when folded. Maybe i have small pockets or the phones are so big that i can't sit comfortably with it in my pocket. I want the phone in my pocket, not on the table or somewhere in the car
I think that Motorola wants you to use the small screen to clear out small tasks such as responding quickly to messages or reading notifications. This will use less battery which's the hot take on foldable phones.

This is gorgeous. It still has some of that old school Motorola RAZR design language, mixed up with the modern flip phone and rounded/softened sides that we’re used to. If they can ever “fix” the crease, then I’m going to switch to a flip phone. I miss the feeling of my old RAZR back in the early 2000s. “Hello Moto”
I know right?! They have a nostalgia factor. I remember the untimely modern design of motorolla flip devices, and I wonder if this is the same. If you looked at one of their old devices today it really still looks sharp and cutting edge modern
What is that design you talk about? All I see is another Samsung Flip but with an M...and I'm actually a little bit bummed by that.
@@disguisedcat1750 100% agree. The original Razr still looks dope. Do you remember how thin that thing was when you opened it? And the beautiful aluminium body, with that little chin part that held the microphone and stuff at the bottom? And then the really cool look of the buttons when you opened it up too. That was so nice at the time. Nothing was as premium looking in comparison IMO. This was a time when Nokia was still extremely popular, and weren’t making very bold designs like this. Also, the Razr V3 actually had iTunes built in too. Like 4-5 years before they would release the iPhone. A lot of people watching this video might be too young to remember how cool it was back then.
@@ojeritoayala Well there’s not a lot you can do with it, because of the space limitations that you have, but I was talking about the flip design, with the screen on the outside with cameras above it, and the big round Motorola logo on the back, just like the Razr V3i. Also, you gotta remember that the Razr is the best selling clamshell design of all time. The design Samsung is using with their clamshell/flip phone today, was popularised first by Motorola back in 2003-2006.

I bought the 2020 gen 2 Razr as soon as it launched with ATT. I'm never going back to a brick. This looks like a great improvement on the last gen of razr and flip phones in general. Sold.

You taught me how to do certain things on the razor Plus which I just purchased and have only had for about 5 days and I'm trying to learn what all it can do and you show me some new things and I just want to thank you for your knowledge and for sharing it. I couldn't figure out how you were doing the video on the outside but as I watched your video and you showed me, and now I'm able to utilize that outside with KZhead and different apps Thank you very much.
I think the whole point of a folding phone should be that you dont need to open it unless you want to. Like if I wanted to use a huge peice of glass to change music or check messages, I would just buy a normal phone. Opening should be for when you want to watch videos, or play games, or read some long form text. I think this is exactly the direction folding phones should be heading.
First thought was FINALLY a folder that utilizes the better rear cameras for selfies & video calls instead of the lower quality front lenses. For vlogging & selfies I think it's a leap forward, as well as all the functionality the 2nd screen brings you without having to open. Almost like a full screen pager that folds into something bigger when/if you need it.

I think we're always complaining about the outer display not having enough features and I dont think this direction is overkill. It just means the user can have free reign on what they want on the outer display. If they want everything, they can set it up and if they want lesser apps, they can do that as well. It really depends on what the user wants and giving us the freedom to choose is great, rather than having to deal with limitations.
I agree! It's very customizable. I can definitely see myself getting this one. I currently have a OnePlus 7 pro, which I still love and works flawlessly.
MKBHD now criticizes every Android phone, even when it's perfect. Watch this review closely, and you'll note that he actually didn't point out a single negative feature of the device. But his word choices leave you feeling like it's flawed and he doesn't recommend it. He even called the game "gimicky". How?!

This is high on my prio list! Whenever I'm on my dreaded metro commute, I love watching YT vids and all that with my Z Flip 4 folded. My hand claws the phone with a ring-loop to keep secured and my phone is small enough that it wouldn't poke people around me when I'm standing.
I am impressed. Even though I don't plan to buy RAZR+ but it does give impression that Motorola is kicking it up a notch! Good job Moto!
Honestly this is a breath of fresh air coming from Motorola, hot take but I could see this limiting screen time a lot if they don't have to physically open it access their apps. I think people will understand that they just want to check something briefly & won't get sucked into scrolling for hours on end, but we'll see when it's released how it's received by the public. 10/10 vid as always!
I feel you can’t really get sucked in on a screen that small. I mean, watching a TikTok/Short/Reels/whatever would SUCK, reading Twitter would suck, Instagram would probably be very broken, KZhead videos are probably fine, but text would be itty bitty.
I totally agree. I would love to test this and see if it would affect my screen time. My theory is that I think the bigger outside screen would make me use my phone less and only flip it open when I needed to do tasks that would require some time.
The immense outside functionality is making me wonder if Motorola is banking on a potential demand for "half-sized" phones.

Just pre ordered this in glacier blue. It releases on the 10th of July here in Australia. I hope it comes straight after that. Im so excited. Havent been this excited for a phone since smartphones first came out.
This is the first Flip phone that got my interest & very well considering in getting one. I love the big outside screen & also now you're able to pack a 6.9" phone in your pocket comfortably like a compact wallet...& of course the price as well.
I have to say despite motorola not being as dominant as they used it's interesting seeing how good their software is here. Like they aren't market peaders in anything yet the software here looks clean, well animated and smooth. Wish more people talked about it

Thanks for your insight on the big outside screen. For us "old folks" it might seem like a step back, we're just getting use to having big screens bulk in our pockets.
I bought it for the giant outside screen. I love it because it does exactly what I want the outside screen to do. I can actually read the full email/notification/whatever, but attempting to scroll reddit or the like is effort - and the trigger of wanting to open the phone to reduce that effort is insanely effective at getting me to just not. I'm not the most bleeding edge person, though. I'm coming from a OnePlus 8 Pro at this point.
While i agree on the distraction aspect of the outside screen, i still think its a cool that you can limit what apps you use on the outside, say to more basic essentials, yet have them be fully functional when you need them (google maps, wtc.) I could see using this when out with friends etc so you dont get 'sucked in' by everything else.
I think this is incredibly useful for spotify, sometimes I just want to see what song is playing and skip a few songs or maybe add it to my liked songs, I could do all that on the smaller screen without unlocking it
This is for music lovers and people who consume podcasts on youtube. If they're showing somehting on camera or I wanna go back to look at a reaction I don't wanna ope the whole thing.
I can do that with normal phones. I keep important apps outside the app drawer. Some smartphones can make apps completely disappear from launchers.
You could also just use a smart watch instead. I don't think it needs a big screen on the outside. It needs a durable screen on the inside. If it's big enough for some basic features like read messages and show notifications it's enough. If you're gonna do more than that, you can flip the phone open.
Yeah. Just control ourselves when we set it up is all we need to do. I like this phone.
This is the first time in I'm not sure how long that I saw a phone and thought "that. I want that." It's like how I felt with the Framework laptop. The whole package all together just feels right. I can clearly imagine myself using it and loving it.

WOW 😲 that's some extras to have a fully functional outer screen that does everything the main screen can do. I honestly didn't expect that but more the merrier. Even taking pictures with the main cameras can be fun using it with the outside screen. And the battery seize is adequately surprising. The full functionality of the outside screen may not be what people want but it definitely adds a gimmicky experience that most people can enjoy and appreciate.
Im getting one shipped to me this friday. I cant wait to get it. I have the 2020 5g. And loved it. So im thankful to upgrade it.
I think thete's an unfulfilled need to express your personality through a smartphone (as it was in pre-iPhone era), and having a truly unique design may do just that. Modern foldables is a step in that direction, but RAZR+ feels like a leap

As a flip 3 and flip 4 owner, I find the larger and more functional Razr+ outside display appealing bc it will greatly reduce the need to open the phone up as much... thus reducing stress and wear and tear on the hinge. Was gearing up to upgrade to flip5, but seriously considering Razr Plus instead. 🤔

@James Barker yeah it's called wanting a small form factor plus functionality. I already have an S22 ultra as my work phone. My foldable is my personal. So the smaller size and versatility is the value prop for me.

I’ve been waiting for a bigger outside screen. It’s definitely next gen with the convenience of a compact and accessible function that sometime will allow me to use with one hand (carrying bags, a quick text response, etc) due to reach/longer screen. They shamelessly borrowed the Z flips look but if it was what sells, why not. Both version looks good!

I have always been in awe of what Razor can do and achieve they have always been in a class of their own
I'm not a big flip phone fan, but this one catched my eye! I really like the aesthetic of the small screen and all the posibilities, because they didn't limit the functionality just for the proprietary apps. I think it's pretty cool and honestly I like it more than the standard one.
I cannot wait for this. I've BEEN waiting for this design. Definitely going to pre-order. It's much more practical than all existing flips in regards to the exterior screens.

@@radlink14 I've got it and oh my god is it AMAZING!! The external display is so handy and works perfectly with almost every app. The display is tall but gorgeous, so clear. Performance is so smooth, no lag at all. Battery life I can't get comment on, but I know it'll be better than other foldables and hopefully get me 5 - 6 hours. Honestly, it's worth every penny!

I love the direction that these foldable phones are going. Its definitely great to see smartphones evolving from the traditional form factor with players like the Galaxy Z Fold, Pixel Fold, and even the RAZR+. Definitely love seeing technology push forward

Just a reminder that the Nexus one had a 3.7 in screen and was considered "large/premium" at the time. This external screen is nearly as large. I remember the HTC phones that came out about 6 months later with 4.3 in screens and everyone thought those were gigantic.
This is exactly what I've been wanting out of a Smart Flip Phone for years. The rumors that Samsung's Flip 5 is going to have an outer display similar to this size made me like 80% sure that I'd upgrade to that this summer. But depending on how the announcement turns out from Samsung then I might have to get this one instead.

I really like both of them. I like the leather material on the razr and the prospect of longer battery life with a bigger battery and the less performant chip. Also like the big outside screen on the razr+.
Since the first gen Z Flip I've been waiting for someone to make the exterior screen more useful past notifications and media controls, definitely excited to see an in depth review of this one
The outer screen reminds me of the Motorola Flipout which actually had a 2.8 inch screen as the main display. Insane to see how far we’ve come
