@@loganrage3047 I was about 12 years old, I am 23 now. First, it was hard switching back and forth every week between my mom and dad. I had trouble connecting with my mom so I always felt defeated when it was her turn. Sometime later I started staying with my dad for two weeks, months and so before switching back with my mom. I felt more at home, it was closer to my school (my mom always made me late), and I was able to see my dad more. We started talking more than before, cooking together, hanging out together and so on. I always loved my dad, it was hard to see him before because he had work. He became more in tune with me as well. He was always there when I was feeling down, he cared about my school education, he was even more prepared to teach me and show me more about being a young woman than my mom ever did. Of course he and I have a couple spats, but who doesn't. I love my dad. Oh let's not forget he got me a kitty years ago. Sweets is now 11 years old and is my baby.

Shortly after this came out, Depeche Mode went on tour. I saw them live in D.C. in an outdoor arena (approx. 2005 or 2006). They were FANTASTIC! They sounded just like they did when they first hit the scene. Dave Gahan looked great and sounded so smooth! They played for about 3 hours and took only a short break. This group is so epic!

Fact from Wikipedia: Depeche Mode main songwriter Martin Gore wrote the song while he was going through a divorce. The track is a message to Gore's children, who were aware of the divorce, and Gore felt guilty that they had to witness the process. Recognising their "fragile" state, Gore expresses his sympathy for them but also mentions that "things get broken" and tells them to keep faith in their parents.

But this track is one of those that has always helped a lot morally. I like it very much, the sound is so cold, but very harmonious, captivating and insanely beautiful. Towards the end, a guitar is added, which makes the overall sound more powerful and even seems to add a little warmth, so unusual and cool is it all.

Lyrics : Precious and fragile things Need special handling My God what have we done to you? We always tried to share The tenderest of care Now look what we have put you through Things get damaged, things get broken I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken Left us so brittle There was so little left to give Angels with silver wings Shouldn't know suffering I wish I could take the pain for you If God has a master plan That only He understands I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through Things get damaged, things get broken I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken Left us so brittle There was so little left to give I pray you learn to trust Have faith in both of us And keep room in your hearts for two Things get damaged, things get broken I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken Left us so brittle There was so little left to give

Martin and David, my wife and I will be seeing you and the band 12/6 in San Diego; at 58 I have been a fan since hearing you on 91X in 1981. We have a beautiful daughter Emma, who is challenged in life with Autism. This song PRECIOUS I loved as the mood, mode and sounds were keeping with traditional and original 80s DM; as Emma was growing up (now 14) these lyrics [although different meaning] hit home SO HARD, it was as if they were made for what we were feeling. Smiles and tears during this song because we cannot take away her pain and hardships, only to hope she sees the best in us. Thank you. See u soon.

This song helped me when I went through the horrible time of my parents divorcing. My mind became more open even when I was in a state where I just felt lost. I still live with my dad and love to death for not leaving me alone throughout the years. We both love Depeche Mode ❤🖤
How old were u? Did you started living with ur dad right after divorce? I want to understand how to make a kid to love and support his father at the end of this process.
@@rebeccarivera8884 I'm glad it ended that way, sometimes we think a father's love is less compared to a mother but it's not that way, work makes men be separated from sparing time with their kids.

RIP Andy. And this is such a heart breaking song. He’s singing about the effect of a divorce on his children. It’s gut wrenchingly sad but beautiful at the same time - as only Depeche Mode could do it that way. RIP Andy. ❤️❤️❤️

This song suits this whole week. Heartbroken.
Same. I think there’s something about this song (Precious) that reminds us how fragile things in life really are.
Same!
I was going through a very dark moment in my life in 2005 when this Beautiful song came out....I couldn't help not to go in tears when Dave sings if God has a master plan then only he understands....I had to go through that and now I remember it with Joy that I'm still here. Thins get damaged and broken but is in our memory where we find precious memories indeed
I listened to that song throughout my pregnancy. Now I have another DM fan at home.
I love how this song manages to sound like vintage 1980s & 90s DM yet sound completely current day at the same time. This is why these gents are still relevant. Hats off.
What a rhythmic synthesized flowy sound and those riffs.... Something very mesmerizing in this.... unexplainable...
This was the first Depeche Mode song I ever heard. I was 15 back then and immediately fell in love with them. I became a fan of so many bands back then, but only Depeche Mode remains from all of them now. I saw them live yesterday in Antwerp (my 2nd DM concert). There is no other band that could keep me hooked for so many years, and yesterday they really showed me again why!
I have been listening to them since the 80s
Just heard this on cold case. Not heard before. Just had to find this one! Preferred the early DM, but this----------wow
I was a kid in 2005 when I first time saw this video on a TV. This video became one of my first visual experience, a strongest one! Now I understand the lyrics and understand why this is so important to me. I was a fragile when my parents got divorced in 2003 and father died soon. How is it possible not knowing english at 13 to understand the main idea clearly? All the lyrics feels by the heart! ❤️
Love ur comment! Same happened to me when I saw pink floyd in the news playing in venice 1989....and my dad past away in the same year as well....
It's almost like it's feeling put into what they're singing and not just idle words that make it felt It gives truth to the idea, that words are actually feelings attached Reminds of the rice experiment
Music transcends individual languages, music, is a universal language :-)
I consider myself lucky being a kid(8) when Enjoy the Silence dropped ,now I appreciate it more as an adult.DM can do that👌

meditative. melancholic. powerful. beautiful. This is my favourite song of theirs.
His mastery of the synthesizer will surely be missed... RIP Mr Fletcher 💔

I come back to this album so much. This literally sounds like a Violator II, and not in a bad or repetitive way. Like if Violator was a double album, this would fit perfectly as the second album. Yet they are like 15 years apart. I just love this band's music. Always will.
Lilian and John the Revelator are also standout tracks. I think it sounds more like SOFAD 2, like how Precious sounds similar to In Your Room in terms of the driving rhythm and a melancholy edge to both the lyrics and the sound.
This has to be one of their most melanconic and peaceful-sounding songs. I love Depeche Mode. ♥

precisely, but the video is totally random and not fitting. Also I'm thinking that such an intimate piece as this shouldn't have become such a hit. It just doesn't feel right for this one, although I really love some of Martin's most deep and personal songs and appreciate his writing them.
Viva Ava and Calo ;)
then it shouldnt be a goddamn good song
It only gets better and better, there’s no band like them. Truly amazing.
I absolutely love the synths and overall structure of this song. Truly magical

What is Depeche Mode? Are they alternative rock, synthpop, electronic, or industrial? The answer is they're Depeche Mode.
Exactly, stop bitching and enjoy.
Mostly is Electronica/Synthpop + Post-Punk.
All of 'em
they are depeche mode
Connor Morley synth rock with synthpop
Probably one of my favourite song by depeche mode. The melody, the depth of the lyrics, and the story behind this song are so touching...
It is so Iconic how Andy is in the middle of Dave and Martin and he was the first one to leave this plane of existence but he lives in their music. That is why I called Transcendence indeed.
Only Martin Gore would effectively use the sound of "static" as an effective beat. The entire song is masterful.
I don't hear static anywhere in the song

Sorry for your loss, hermano. My brother is everything to me. I can only imagine your pain. God bless you and your family.
One of the few 80s bands that were still being a hit in the 2000s
E 2024🎉❤😂
And they are still a hit in 2024
I am just keeping getting flashbacks... I was 8, driving to the willage with my dad at a dark road, and this music plays. Especially in Russia, there is like special atmosphere, it perfectly fits with this song. Amazing memories... Sorry for bad english, I am 12 now and I keep learning it Edit: i am now 13🎉
Listened ti this song while watching smallville as a teenager ,fresh out of high school life was so much easier back then , I was 16 then I’m 21 now
Everyone has memories associated with this track. For me, these are school years in a small Russian town, first love, pain and much more. But this track is one of those that has always helped a lot morally. I like it very much, the sound is so cold, but very harmonious, captivating and insanely beautiful. Towards the end, a guitar is added, which makes the overall sound more powerful and even seems to add a little warmth, so unusual and cool is it all.
Precious Depeche Mode Precious and fragile things Need special handling My God what have we done to you?

Mart actually wrote PRECIOUS" cause he was going through his 1st & only divorce,at least until now, I don't think he'll get divorced again... Anyway the lyrics explain his children & ex-wife the awful & terrible Truth! Hoping they would understand when they became adults why their parents weren't Together FOREVER & EVER... I always loved Depeche Mode's music, but this one is a masterpiece (at least, in my eyes).
In my opinion this is their best song
Simplemente genial!
Depeche mode

This reminds me of my mom when she was abused by my father, when I was small. When she felt the most down, she played this song. Now it's really hard to listen to, but it's a beautiful song to melt in at the same time, It gives me such a deep feeling of nostalgia.

Depeche Mode is such a great band. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. Thank you. See u soon.
Such a timeless song ❤️🩹
