I think the comment that Ortiz exposed Loma's physical decline is being greatly exaggerated. The odds are shrinking. When betting odds opened, Loma was a +240 and even a +270 in some places. He's now a +200. I think Loma is going to send shock waves through the boxing world this May.

I hope so, I'm a big Loma fan. Haney looks so sharp rn, his jab is going to be a real issue for Loma. He really can't afford to start slow as Haney is going to win rounds with an active jab as Loma downloads. I think Loma has to go to the body early to slow Haney down and open up Haney's guard. Loma needs a knockout or at least a knockdown to win on points. It has to be a vintage performance and then some for Loma to win.
@@jacoby310 I’m going to make a video about this. There are things with the Lopez fight that doesn’t exist for Haney. First, Loma was coming off a 14 month layoff due to Covid. Second, he re-injured his shoulder (which had never quite healed since Linares) before the Lopez fight. Third, Lopez has one-punch KO power; Haney does not. All of these things affected his performance in the beginning of that fight and made him hesitant and cautious. None of these thing will be present for Haney. He will start off fast. I have no doubt. The only thing I worry about for Loma is whether he can shut off the noise (everything going on in the Ukraine) and go into the ring with the right state of mind as well as maintain his super high fitness level despite being 35 now. If he can do the last two, I have no doubt he’ll win.

Pacquiao was a unique case, and yet even in his twilight years he received some rough matches that he managed to win because he was just...still that good? But by that point his days as a world champ were finally put to rest. At lower weight classes, speed and agility are pretty much necessities for a boxer, unlike in HW where a fighter possessing those things could very well become a prospect, if not a champ in a short period of time (Fury, Usyk). Unlike Devin Haney, I'd argue that Lomachenko isn't that much of a natural genius, but more of a fighter who had built his foundation via tremendous amounts of hard work, intelligent work, and the secretive methods that even other competitors aren't even aware of if they even exist or not. Devin Haney though, could very well be the closest thing to Mayweather with his philly shell defensive techniques and a precise understanding of timing and distance management, allowing Haney to land blows at the most opportune moment during fights.

The difference between Devin and the other young champions at 135 is that he seems to be chasing legacy, above and beyond anything else. Most kids in his position have arrived, and are in the mindset to protect what they have. He’s willing to risk it all for greatness. I think it will continue to show up in how he prepares for fights, and when he shows up in the ring. That kind of belief in himself takes all his skills, and puts something special on them. Something that can’t be taught, or taken away in the ring. This will be the biggest fight in boxing this year.
