This is generally what you can expect from a high-content wolfdog (if you don’t take human socialization as a top priority). I prefer Kane to be pleasantly distrustful as opposed to Harvey who will happily jump into the back of a white van - especially if promises of ice cream are involved.
The ‘stranger’ in this video is someone I’ve known for a long time, Kane has even been around her a few times as a puppy. Still, when you’re not a member of the perceived family you are to be avoided. With someone who is completely alien he would not come close at all.
Footnote: Ha - no; it wasn’t nearly enough of a run to wear him out.

    • Yes, and it's hard on them. They have to overcome every natural instinct they were born with to learn trust. Tamed and domesticated are two very different things.

    • @Benni B It depends on how many breeds there are between. I think like 3rd generation for wolves is the limit we can have. Anything above is too dangerous.

    • @@nisanight2247 Not every instinct, that's hyperbole. Wolves and canines innately know what trust is, to a certain extent anyway. There's specific instincts they have to work against but its not completely against their nature to be with humans. We domesticated them in the first place. To clarify I know of course it's not safe to take care of any old wolf

      @NeutralGuyDoubleZero@NeutralGuyDoubleZero3 жыл бұрын
    • @@NeutralGuyDoubleZero Hyperbole??? Did we watch the same video? The wolf never could bring himself to trust. In the wild, caution is a survival instinct and try though he might, he didn't overcome it. Domesticating wolves into pets was a process that went on for generations. Breeding a wolf with a dog is not a viable shortcut. Do some research on the fate of many wolf/dog hybrids and you'll see how poorly it can work out. Many experts say you would be better with a full blood wolf than a mix because their temperament will be more predictable. Have you tamed any wild creatures? Lastly, I would like to say I have no problem with this family unit. Clearly everybody has found a working arrangement. Hundreds of people don't and it's always the poor animals who pay the price.

      @nisanight2247@nisanight22473 жыл бұрын
    • @@nisanight2247 I called hyperbole because you said *every* instinct they had. Which is just ridiculous. Wild cats had more instincts/characteristics to overcome to become domesticated I'd argue. And even then they're barely even that changed from their wild/bigger counterparts, just smaller and more docile. I'm *OBVIOUSLY* not saying taking care of a wolf hybrid or almost pure wolf is the same as a normal dog, nor am I saying it's fit for the average person. People should absolutely be aware of what they can manage and do more research. And there already is plenty of pushback against adopting wolf hybrids to be fair. One of the first videos i found about them was cautioning against getting them.

His owner already stated that he purposefully didn't work with Kane on this, because he wanted to leave his wariness of strangers in him. • And here we see a model of a canine solar system, the wolf dog orbits around this human as it cannot resist the pull of many pets from said human, but is unable to get too close to the human due to its own forces pushing back against it. Meanwhile the husky, being made of less mass, feels less of a pull, but has less resistance as well, and therefore flies directly at the human, at near lightspeed. Soon however, the wolf dog will do the same, as the pull of pets from a human is one of the strongest forces in the universe.

  • For everyone wondering about Kane's wariness of the new human. I study wolves as part of learning about canine behavior. While Kane is a Malamute/Wolf mix, the wariness of a unknown person is quite stressful at first. When he was slightly worried at first, he still subtly showed his submissive gestures to her. The main one being to show his sides to her with his head slightly downward and not maintaining eye contact. But his running in a circle around her is him not only willing to accept her as a potential friend, but his way of checking her out. It does take more time for wolf dogs to trust but once it's there it'll never go away. I actually started following this channel for my classes just to study each of their behaviors and body language. So this absolutely helps me understand their similarities as well as their differences. So happy I found this channel. I adore wolves and Huskies. 🥰

Selectively breeding dogs the way we do actually intensifies the role genetics play in their temperaments- good and bad, from how outgoing they are, to how anxious and reactive they are. Obviously mishandling can/will intensify the bad though.

He's trying to make a choice, and it certainly looks like he's got plenty of time and space to make that choice. Meanwhile, the best way to appear intelligent on the internet is almost certainly NOT to give out unsolicited animal behavior advice based on a single 6-minute video (let alone based on a single overgeneralization you picked up somewhere).

  • Sit in the middle of the room/space, remaining relaxed... after having played with Harves a bit. Showing two sides one positive and one neutral to him as he gets to know you maybe. Letting him smell and see first, but also smelling him back slightly and remaining calm. Then going back to talking a bit and maybe trying to play again. P.S. And then I keep watching and that's largely what happens! Only other aspect I might think of doing with the humans he does trust is 'belly up' perhaps.

  • When my Chihuahua mix is pleased to see my friend, he'll gallop towards her and then scamper in circles. He's clearly pleased to see her but excited to be off leash at our park too. It's quite funny. Reminds me a lot of Kane's running in circles here.

  • Huskys are super intelligent, I knew one which was kinda aggressive towards people he didn't know, but as soon as they saw a new born, he that approached it, and he became as calm as a sheep and just played along, the same dog that once nearly tore my calf when it was still younger. He's a cool dog tho.

  • i had the good fortune once to touch a 1 year old gray timber wolf back when i lived in florida. Best part was the wolf allowed me, seemed to welcome it as well. The woman who was caring for him worked at gatorland and she lived down the street from me at the time. The wolf greeted me acting like a puppy, beautiful creatures they are.

    • That's true for wolves born & raised in the woods amongst other wolves. Kain was adopted from a breeder and also he's a wolf-dog. Kain's avoidant, he doesn't dislike humans. He'd just nervous/shy around unfamiliar ones.
