I admit, this was kind of a silly project but I was up for the challenge. Buckets are actually pretty challenging to make! Each of the staves is tapered and beveled so you have to get the cuts just right for everything to fit together perfectly. On top of that, I tried out bent lamination for the first time, I turned a handle for the bucket without a lathe, and I did the entire project without any metal fasteners. All in all, this definitely challenged my skills but ended up being the fanciest bucket you'll ever see! Check out the video and tell me what you think! If you'd like to challenge yourself, pick up the plans for the project over at my website.
I petition for more outtakes in every woodworking video.... Oh yeah, awesome bucket too.
Nicely done. Jack & Jill give 2 Thumbs Up.
Tis a fine bucket. All others pail in comparison.
Haha😁😁😁😁😁 Well played...well played
ba-dum-tiss!
UUUuuuugh.
**heavy breathing**
If that doesn’t make you just wanna kick the bucket! 😳
That is a beautiful bucket. Your neighbor would be proud
Haha, thanks!
Mary had a little lamb. She kept it in a bucket and every time the lamb jumped out, Mary tried to put it back... ;-) 🇬🇧 Very nice bucket Drew. Impressive. 👍
The bucket is nice but you earned a like for the banter.
Dude you win my like by cutting this bucket bottom !!!
I like your definition of hand sanding at 12:54 😁
I just subscribed to your channel. The reason I decided to go ahead and subscribe is your self deprecating humor! You remind me of myself in that respect.
LOVE "blooper/reality" endings to your videos.. it's what actually make me feel better about my woodworking. I USE to say "this isn't how people on youtube do it"... then think I sucked... now i say.. "that woulda been in a blooper reel"...and realize i'm human. SO thanks for that.
You're very welcome! Thanks, Steph
pretty sure my blooper reel would be longer than the build video if I were to try and put my projects on youtube.
All I could think of at 15:05 was "pocket" after you said hot. Awesome build, as always. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Love the outtakes! Bucket’s not bad either!!👍✌️😊🙏🏼⚒
You sir are a triple threat...skill, humor, and intellect...incredible project. Thank you for providing this.
Thanks, Charles!
Hey Drew, it's your neighbor. I didn't watch the video but I found this huge piece of wood in my back yard. It's kind of damaged and it looks like it was cut with a saw already, but I know you like to make things with wood, so it you want it let me know and I'll chuck it over the fence or something.
It's all yours, my friend. Maybe use it to build a new dog house?
Ooooooohhhhhhhhh I get it now
It was going good until the end where he said I’ll chuck it “back” over.. the whole premise was based on not knowing where the wood came from ..
Your commentary on all your videos I’ve watched make you my new favorite builder on KZhead
Glad you're enjoying them. :)
i love your sense of humor.
A craftsman who makes buckets and barrels is known as a Cooper! Nice work man!
That makeshift lathe was genius!!!
It's beautiful! Make sure it's not in the way so you won't accidentally kick it!
very cute, but the handle is enormously beautiful.
Incredible wood work, and equally incredible film production. Thumbs up!
Thanks a bunch
Just watched again after a couple of years. Love the video!
Thank you, sir
I don't know how you figured out the math to make all those angles. You must be an engineer outside of the shop.
in my Humble opinion, you are way up there in the best Videos. .your work is excellent, there is NO friggin stupid blaring Music...ther commentary is super informative and the banter adds a great flavour to an already very palletable video....top marks dude!!!
I appreciate that!
For a videographer, you’re not too bad at woodwork. (Seriously, you’re a freaking genius.). You make me want to spend more time in my shop AND sell off my tools in shame with equal energy. Nice job my man.
This really is one fancy bucket!
I kind of love your pencil sharpener dowel jig.
That's one fine bucket.
Dinner and a show... It's in the bucket. Super project, thank you.
That is the most beautiful bucket I've even seen. Nice job!
Thanks 👍
Your commentary is legendary. Great vid keep up the great work
Several very useful tips. Also love the outtakes. Thanks much and thumbs up to crush a troll.
That neighbor .... hahaha BTW awesome piece of art !
A bucket shaped object. I like it.
The production quality on these videos are amazing. Nice one
Thanks!
Pretty clever lathe replacement. Nice work
Totally worth watching. With a bucket that nice, it might make you a little more reluctant to kick it.
Very good job. I like the bloopers.
Beautiful bucket, Drew. And very enjoyable to watch as always. Billy
Thanks, Billy
Hola! 🖐That is a sweet looking bucket👌I echoed your "ooooohhh nice" when that flat bottom panel just eased right in, awesome.👏I have seen a few videos with a similar project but this one is tops. I really want to make one for Grammy now. Hopefully once my shop is operational I can get to building one. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Right on! Yeah, this was a fun and challenging one
Awesome bucket ! love the outtakes . This is why I watch your videos . Thanks
Great work. And just quirky and funny enough to make it even more enjoyable.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate the outtakes. Thanks!
Definitely on my bucket list
Love your work mate and the commentary is 2nd to none 😂😂👍
Thanks, John
I wonder if it would hold water! Makes me appreciate how much work used to go into making every day equipment and how we are so spoiled today. 👏
That. Is. AWESOME!
ROY Underhill had a show on PBS years ago where he made a wooden water tray. He took very dry wood and flatten one end and one side and NAILED 4 sides and a bottom together to make a open box. before he put it together he took a 16p nail and put a groove around the bottom of the box and one end and then shaved it off. when he submerged the box the compressed wood from the grooves swelled up and formed a water tight box. (You would really need to find a video on it to get the correct process, as I can barely remember how he accomplished it!) I liked your bucket, and hope to do the same soon!
Wow that was one Excellent build, who would have thought of making a Bucket in this way oh yes Drew did and an Excellent job too. Just an amazing video and worth a thumbs up and added to my saved list. Fantastic, oh and i love the usual out takes as well ha ha ha. Barry (ENG)
Thanks, Barry!! :)
Lol, great project. The blooper real at then end was a fantastic finale!
I love the build and your sense of humor. Outstanding!
Thanks so much, Leah!!
Another of my favorite creators! Hi, Leah!
Another brilliant project. Enjoy all your videos.
It is now on my bucket list. Fusion 360 makes it easy to explore ideas.
Could not help but laugh over your shop blunders. I am 70 years old and have a pretty well equipped shop, but I too do stupid things, talk to myself, I will put the screw driver in my back pocket and not find it until I go upstairs to get cleaned up. I am to old to cuss and holler, I just laugh at myself. Love your work.
Your videos are the perfect mix of ingenuity, dad jokes and creativity. Outstanding as always!
Thanks, Brian!
Did you watch any videos of old timey coopers making buckets by hand? Totally nuts! Cool to see you coming up with completely different modern solutions for already well solved problems.
Nope, I didn't...I probably should have. I just kinda winged it.
Denmark is a fan of you as well 👍🙂
Love you sense of humour!
I'm not sure I will never make a bucket. But seeing that bucket bottom perfectly set was worth watching this vid. Nicely done.
I never really thought a bucket could be art, but you sure proved me wrong, this is beautiful.
Thanks, Nick!
This is the first time I have commented on your videos, but I love your work and commentary. Just wanted to give you another option for a lathe. Using your drill press make a holder for your piece on the table and turn in the vertical position.
That was my first attempt but the only turning tools I have is a gouge for hand carving and it kept catching. Didn't work.
You could always just sand it without lathe tools.
Your commentary is brilliant
Hey Drew, Great project, the bucket is gorgeous! Greeting from Denmark! Best regards Lars
Thanks, Lars!
You're a genius man...love your humor too
I appreciate that!
I always knew I loved carpentry. And why are all you carpentry creators so funny?
That is the nicest bucket I have ever seen! Jack and Jill should be fighting for the opportunity to use it. I like the way you make innovative use of your tools to cut the dowels and other items.
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and I really admire you as woodworker to woodworker
Challenging. Turned out great, Drew
Thank you, sir!
That’s one fine bucket
At beginning of the video: "Uhhh, why is this guy making a bucket?" By the end of the video: "Wow, I'm really glad I watched that." Really enjoyed your thought process from the perspective of someone who doesn't have every tool under the sun. Presentation/narration was good too.
Wow! That came out magnificent! I don't need to blow your trumpet or pat you on the back...you did a fine job of doing that for yourself as well...and your deserve every bit of praise ( Jack and Jill would be honored to have this bucket).Seriously, that is one good looking bucket!
Thanks, Juliet!
I'll give you two thumbs up!!
Your delivery is surpassed only by your skill, talent and creativity. I particular enjoyed the out takes. Apparently, I'm not the only one who talks to myself that way.
BUT DOES IT HOLD WATER?!?!?!?! Great video and I got tons of chuckles. Entertaining and good woodworking. Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm not sure... but it holds dog toys pretty good!
For a first try that came out very nice. Well done sir.
Beautiful workmanship! This video was very well done and interesting.
Thank you very much!
I'm pretty sure that if I wasn't already a woodworker, this kind of video would inspire me to become one.
Nice build and a very clever lathe substitution technique. I will remember that one.
All I know is you woodworkers that pick up a giant slab of wood and make something out of it, very talented. But if you have the 💵 for all the tools, I guess it's worth it.Nice job!🌲🌳
That's one beautiful bucket!
Love It !!!! Excellent Project. Stop Hurtin Yourself !!!! Lol.
You have a gift my friend! Absolutely AWESOME WORK!
Thank you very much!
Best bucket I've seen you make! Thanks for sharing.
This video made me happy
Very nice looking bucket
Really great work on this brother my friend. And thanks for doing Mike proud, I know he appreciates the subliminal shout out with the apparel!
Thanks Chris! Mike was actually the very first woodworking-community T-shirt I ever got. Haha... I wear it with pride.
Fisher's Shop that’s great! My Muz shirt got caught in my spindle sander... don’t ask🤦♂️
It feels like I'm hearing Mark Twain recite one of his Huckleberry Finn stories. Fantastic!
That is one fancy bucket ! Your creative solutions were awesome. Don't put it on the shelf though , get out to the barn and milk 'ol Betsy .
By far my favorite wood shop channel on KZhead! Keep up the good work sir!
Thanks!!
Nice looking bucket
What a beautiful bucket - thanks for the comment about Denmark - I’m a true fan. You always bring a smile to my face and a “Wauw” to your end products….!! Love from DK
Am I the only one who see's a new Fisher Video is up, watches it, then watches half of his other videos again because I can't get enough Fisher's Shop? Great work Drew. Love your channel and work.
Your side comments (aka Dad Jokes) and the out-takes are great. Woodworking skills are quite good too. Keep up the good work.
Very satisfying watching you roll the staves up and seeing them come together quite perfectly.
Right?
What a video and project simple item but a fantastic result ... I haven't enjoyed a video this muct in years well done sir well done!
You're super talented and I always look forward to your videos coming out. Your dry sense of humor always adds a couple good chuckles to watching the video but the bloopers at the end really set you apart from the rest. As usual another great video. Nicest bucket I've ever seen! lol
Thanks, Joshua!
I do love a good cheese filled breakfast pastry.....solid work, sir!
Thanks, Andy! :)
There are soooo many people out there making buckets. But this is by far the best iv'e seen. I compliment you on the skills you have shown and the video was well structured. The finished bucket looked fantastic. Thumbs UP.
Drew again proving why’s he’s not only a top woodworking video creator on KZhead but in the top echelon overall. Loved it.
I don't know about THAT, but thanks anyway! :)
I’m always impressed with the way you work through complicated builds! And man, I always love the outtakes! Sounds just like my shop! A whole lot “crap” being shouted! 🤣
Haha, thanks Justin
