The change from Raiden's body to that of a cyborg was one of the best things that could happen to the character in terms of popularity, since thanks to this we have Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
Kojima both followed through with his cyborg ninja archetype and gave Raiden a popularity boost with that one. I really believe he always liked the Gray Fox character and he merged that with Raiden.
By popularity boost I mean about when MGS4 came out. I am of the group that liked Raiden since MGS2, that game was also my classic, would love to see cutscenes from that game again (if they are not on this channel already!)

now they try too hard to make games realistic. Style, flavor, and character is a lost art and almost nonexistent in todays triple A titles

It feels like they really really did push the limits of the system at the time. The frame rate drops were worth how intensive these scenes were.
We really had no idea how good we had it back then. Most games look horrible these days from the perspective of animation.

i understand that feeling. in some past interview, kojima prod actually had difficulties at PS3 architecture. so they tweak it so much that it can run on PS3. actually its a miracle that MGS 4 can run flawlessly at all.

around the release time of ps3, the term: next-gen was starting to be used for new gaming hardware. Mass media advertising and game trailers using this term is probably why you ve associated the word with this game. Interestingly, tje word is no longer used so often to describe new hardware and software since graphics, nor gameplay mechanics have advanced in years with few minor exceptions

This is the best thing that happened to Raiden as a character. But the worst to happen realistically. Having your organic body stripped away is awesome and insane.
Raiden was too insecure of himself. He wanted so bad to be someone that he isn't, that he had to do it artificially. Yes it gives him character growth over time as he has to learn to be responsible with his newly found power, but if you remember his appearance in the bonus footage of MGS 3, he admits he was a jealous wreck. Just a wishful kid. The producers basically made a joke of him. Personally, I never liked Raiden because he always reminds me of every dumb kid full of egotistical wishful thinking that can never accept their own limits. MGS 4, he has his mental breakdown and shows what a weak kid he is.

Literally what the fuck was this fight scene. I've never seen any other scene anywhere do the shit they got away with in this. Balancing on the hilt of your sword to breakdance at your opponent with a knife between your toes? Calmly shoving a knife through your own heart to retrieve it from your back? Kicking a sword through the air to deflect incoming projectiles, using that recoil to set up more kicks and keep the sword in the air? A backwards split-jump to evade a vertical sword strike? This is the MOST extra swordfight. Just incredible stuff.
Even without the 4K this game still looks amazing considering this was an early PS3 title.

Something interesting with metal gear lore is that bigger mechs like the geckos and even metal gears in the main series are treated as massive problems and things that aren’t to be messed with without a plan. But as time goes on, warfare advanced and by the time you get to revengance all of these things are practically outdated. Even metal gears. The metal gear ray boss fight in MGR:R is a tutorial and geckos are basic enemies you deal with. Even in universe they’re treated not as serious threats at that point but pretty much just things to use to stall for time

@@zizochemlali4639 Yeah, it's mostly because of cyborgs that things like metal gears are starting to get outdated in the metal gear series, If you can pack so much power into a human sized killing machine that can rival and overcome one that is the size of huge buildings then the cyborgs seem like a better choice
MGS games seemed to exceed all the capabilities of the console. I remember seeing this scene and thinking the attention to detail was like nothing ever performed: the animation, choreography, sound fx, additional special fx coupled with the sheer tension created, makes this one of the key moments in gaming history.
And that's why it often ran at a choppy 20 frames per second. It never exceeded 30 even tho its target is 60.

That fight scene between Vamp and Raiden is better than every other action movie fight scene we've had outside of the John Wick series over the last decade.
It’s crazy how raiden straight up gutted himself just to kill vamp, knowing he might die, knowing it might not work, and he did it all completely unflinchingly.

@@bruhmomento2985 It was never exclusive. Kojima just never felt like trying to make it work on 360 after jumping through so many hoops to get it working on PS3.

For me, this is the best Playstation exclusive that I’ve ever player. I was only 14 when I played this game back in 2009 so some of shit that they were saying went over my head. Now that I’m older I can fully understand the whole plot.

Kyle Schneider had to be reassembled after he got blown to bits in Outer Heaven and Gray Fox went through that reconstruction twice, first as a young adult with the Null project and then later after his body got destroyed by a minefield.
This game blew my mind when I played it. Truly a great story.

Both Raiden and Vamp have had such a come up in this game. Like HONESTLY-these redesigns are god-tier!
The enhanced emulation shows how much of it was not key framed. The one thing that stood out was Vamp's dog tags. They apparently couldn't get the physics to line up, so they keyframed it to the runtime. This is why the accelerated framerate causes them to float out of sync. We are fortunate that they didn't lock the framerate, because basically the game self optimizes otherwise.
Here we are years later and the fight choreography is unmatched. Cinema quality. Just amazing.
All the metal gear games are cinematic in general
MGS4 gets a lot of criticism for its messy story but my god I love it so much, especially for it's cutscenes, music and gameplay. It has aged so well for a game that came out in 2008. I really hope Konami rerelease it on current gen systems.
All i ever heard of MGS4 is that it is a 10/10 masterpiece the only people who talked trash about it were 360 fanboys back in the day because it was only on PS3

@@ChrisThePlayer777 It wasn't. It was a good game but I had already played all the previous games and in comparison it had very little in terms of gameplay. It was definitely more advanced but the first 2 chapters were short and that's where the game peaked. Chapter 3 is basically on rails then chapter 4 is a retread of shadow moses but without a single human being occupying the entire facility. Chapter 5 was a race to the finish. The game then ends. The purpose of the game really just seemed to be telling a 8 hour long story and retconing inconvenient story aspects and trying to tie everything together in a pretty slapdash hamfisted manner. What little gameplay there was that revolved around the free form stealth in a warzone design philosophy that occupied chapter 1 and 2 was good but after beating the game a couple times you just realize how much unrealized potential there was here. I was really looking forward to a follow up and having a fuller game with these new elements but alas that came years later and phantom pain was just as unrealized because Konami cut the cord. MGS4 was the beginning of the end I just didn't really see the full picture and understood how egregiously Konami was gimping their own games until the messy MGS5 situation occurred.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first of the series I witnessed before knowing others. When I saw the trailer, I watched Raiden fighting Vamp. While so, I thought MGS4 was some kind of new fighting genre video game. I thought wrong, but the fight between the two was AMAZING.
You know watching this makes me realize raiden did a lot of the heavy lifting in this game

Both Raiden and Vamp are so incredibly cool in this, I remember to this day how awestruck I was seeing their fight for the first time, and the finale is even better, but you have to watch it separately because of the in-game battle happening at the same time.

The final fight later in the game comes super close, but this cutscene imo is the literal best video game action cutscene ever. MGS4 is basically a movie anyway, but honestly if this was a cinematic release I cant imagine this not getting all the awards. We are still out here talking about this cutscene and I am damned sure it will continue to be talked about for decades to come.

As Grey Fox was so bad ass... literally spawned the genre of Cyber Ninja... we needed another. And Raiden fit the bill. After MGS 2 and being a bit of a simp, he realy came into his own. Revengance was a MARVELOUS game and awesome character arc . MGS 4 made him genuinly worth having around. This was the best scene in the game for me.
The fact that blood comes out of those things. Are those metal gears organic? Do they have human parts inside them? I thought they were entirely robotic?

First time I played MGS2, I was disappointed that Raiden was the protagonist. From the magazines, I thought that Raiden was only a playable character for some missions, and Solid Snake was the main protagonist. But it was not, Raiden was the main character all the time. When I started to advance on MGS2, I started to think Raiden was a pretty cool character and how he was portrayed as a normal man (in opposition to Solid Snake and Naked Snake who were full war dogs).

This cinematic alone, as over the top as it is, is infinitely better than every cutscene combined in Twin Snakes. Kojima (having direct influence and final say with this game/ scene) knew how to balance style and action while keeping some sembiance of reality/ suspension of disbelief, whereas whoever tf directed Twin Snake's scenes was like "ohhhh The Matrix! ohhhh Japanimation (anime)!"
Personally, I was perfectly ok with the fighting choreography/cutscenes in Twin Snakes, and for me they're only second to these scenes in MGS4. Sometimes its ok to suspend reality if it produces an awesome result. The scenes in Twin Snakes made me love Grey Fox.

@@zaizen4359 It kinda shredded Solid Snake's fighting style - he wasn't meant to be a Big Boss level CQC-god but more of a clinical "weapons-master" soldier (see how he fights in MGS2). Turning him into Neo for cinematics was the wrong move.

I like Raidens character evolution from being a Child Soldier to MGS2 and 4 Raiden all the way up to MGR Raiden, you just can see and feel how Raiden finally doesn't hold his Jack the Ripper personality back, i mean MGS4 Raiden was sick in this cutscene and MGR Raiden is just Badass

I can’t help but point out Vamp’s necklace. It was like it’s own thing, completely unaffected by the physics of what was happening.

I like it because it still holds some of Raiden's human appearance, it feels more definitive to me, the Rising design is cool but to me is equivalent of big boss using the battle dress on Peace Walker or Phantom Pain

Dude this is one of my all time favorite MGS moments in all the series, 4 is goated, I feel like it doesn't get as much love as it should. Not because it's bad or anything or weaker than the other ones. *cough* "5" *cough*(don't get me wrong I absolutely love 5). More in that, idk, it's like a gem that you keep rediscovering, kind of like the movie "The Drop" lol I keep rediscovering it and it's never a bad watch. Same with MGS4, I know it's there but for some reason I don't play it that much, but when I do it's always great. Anyways back to this sequence, I dare say it's on par with great movie scenes of our time.
Looking at this game at 4K makes me wish we had a remaster. I had to dig out my old PS3 for this masterpeice

Metal Gear is a STRICT cyberpunk game. Period. This deserves a FULL comeback. Kojima MUST, and I mean, HE MUST, remake all the Metal Gear Solid franchise for the next generation of consoles improving all the game play and all the mechanics. Now he has the technology to fulfill his vision of the Metal Gear World. Death Stranding proves his level of maturity. When I was a kid, I never got into the MG franchise. Now the technology is there to combine open world and scripted scenes into a coherent story. With all the information we have now, the game could be an outstanding hit.
There is not way for Hideo Kojima to remake this saga. He left Konami and created the Kojima Productions. The rights of the saga belongs to Konami, so it doesn't belong to him anymore
The only way for Hideo Kojima to remake the Metal Gear games would be for him to buy the rights, which we know he doesn't have the money for, and Konami would never sell. Or if Konami suddenly goes bankrupt and he's able to pay pennies on the dollar at a private auction. When he left Konami, he left everything he helped create behind, so we are stuck with pipe dreams and what could've been...
Everything about this game has always been impressive
this was my introduction into metal gear as franchise I prob played it 2012-2014 game still felt 10 years ahead of its time
Game developers really need to take note and understand the artistry on display here. You have 2 very distinct fighting styles with their own plethora of moves that are also indicative of the type of characters exhibiting these maneuvers. Vamp has a much more slick style with smaller more precise movement combined with these fast paced almost ballet dancing esque maneuvers and raiden is just doing this kind of hyper stylized ninja thing. They are telling a story here but just with the choreography. It's almost like a pro wrestling match.
Let’s not forget, this is now a 15 year old game. Not too shabby.

It's a technical glitch from the emulation of it running at 60FPS, I believe. In original PS3, that doesn't happen from my recollection.

If not for MGS1, this would be my favorite game of all time. So graceful, polished, PERFECT... It has the most thrilling action scenes, not only from video games, but all media (and I watch tons of movies, series...) and THE FEELS, man, it's hard to think about a game which made me feel more than Guns of the Patriots. It will always and forever feel next-gen, just as MGS1 feels timeless.
Those tank things are fucking ridiculous. They walk like a chicken, moo like a cow, sound like cicadas, and jump like a kangaroo. What should we call these things? A fucking GEKKO. Christ I love Metal Gear. That Vamp vs. Raiden fight scene is still a masterpiece of choreography.
