I have to wonder why UBISOFT abandoned this feature. You don't know excitement until you turn a corner, see three guys, then your gun jams as they open fire and you have to scramble for cover. It was so great.
Dying because you were unable to do anything due to random chance/RNG is just bad design. Think of tripping from SSBB. Gameplay comes first.
@@expendableround6186 In this very specific case, it isn't bad design, because the developers knew exactly how the player would feel if the gun jammed. Everything in Far Cry 2, from the inaccurate guns to the abundance of opaque cover and foliage, to the massive enemy count and chaotic fire propagation system, they're all meant to make combat hazy, confusing and unpredictable, to suit the overall theme of the game: you're just one merc in a sea of them all fighting for reasons most don't even understand, and in the end it's all worth nothing. To that end, the gun jamming system works great in combat for the themes and feel the devs were going for, but obviously it's a divisive system. Some of us absolutely love how quickly and dynamically it can shift the balance of a battle even if you were prepared, and how it fits the game's themes, while folks like yourself just see it as incredibly annoying and unfair. Both are valid viewpoints, but I don't think it's fair to say it was "bad design".
Yeah the games went in the wrong direction after 2
@@lastEvergreen facts...
@@expendableround6186 I think if Ubisoft doubled down in the mechanic, your choice of gun itself would factor into how often a weapon jams, and how easily the jam can be cleared. Some guns are harder to use than others, so it could provide an extra layer of strategy.

I am sure that lots of people would panic under high stress firefight situations and would probably fumble with the jammed weapon, but the character is a trained killer, whose training should help them in such situations. *RATATATATATA- CH CH* Oh fook, mu gun is jammed, better unjam it quick... Now to shoot again *boom* *rage*
It actually does that in the game though
That’s why it never came back. Gameplay comes before immersion.
In reality that's exactly what would happen to half those weapons. He would have completely wrenched out the bolt on the Springfield M1903 with how he tried to "fix" it.
7:41 love that little *tap* to test the bowstring’s integrity
Gave me little anxiety when he do that

i like it when simple animations can show the personality of main protagonisy, even though they never spoke any throughout the game
@@lotrlmao1648 you're so right! We're able to see the protagonists personality through these small details!!
@@lotrlmao1648who wouldnt get pissed when their weapons jam tho
The jamming/weapon breaking mechanic was so fun to have go wrong(knowing not to take the game seriously despite its mood and setting), as I was able to experience this game recently. I remembered during an assassination assignment when I had an AR-16 with me I took from a safehouse(Thanks Michele, rip in peace when I forgot to revive her D:). Rustic as hell, but I needed a scoped weapon when I didn't have a sniper on me(there was a crossbow because DLC but I ignored that). I had my scope on my target, but as soon as I fired the gun, it exploded in my face, and the guy didn't get hurt. And everyone's alerted to my position. And now I was stuck with a .45 and PKM to finish the job with.. up close against a lot of people, with hardly much cover at the docks. I had a million bullet holes and a slightly stubbed pinkie, but at least the target's dead, and got them diamonds lol
There's so many times when he just slaps it and I want to say "wow can't believe that didn't do it "
Me: you've watched this 3 times now Brain: I know Me: why are we watching it again? Brain: I gotta
Brain: take notes Me: wha- Brain:Do It! Me: ok.
the reason these are jamming is due to poor or improper maintenance and here's why The 45 and Markarovs: likely the parts that work the slide are bad The DE: improper maintenance or never maintained, bad slide parts The Uzi and Mac: the system itself is seized, likely bad firing and/or slide components The double barrel shotgun: the shell casings are old and likely expanded, if it's brass then the lips on the casings have sheared G3 AK and FAL: (somehow in the case of the AK) a seized bolt, and the mags or magwells are bad AR: failure to feed, likely the bolt components are worn MGL: I believe what's called the "rotator spring" is going, can't rotate properly, fun fact like how you'd need to pull the pin on a hand grenade to arm it, the grenades in the gun need to be shot before they become a threat MP5: like the UZI and MAC seized bolt and/or firing components Homeland SPAS and 870(silenced shotgun): wow honestly, but in the case of legit jam, bad slide or ammo USAS: possibly a rotator failure in the mag and/or feed failure in the gun Springfield(m1903): a bad bolt, pure and simple Dragonov and AS50: I think I hear the guns crying out for oil, bad bolts PKM and M249: either improperly seated or bad ammo belts Dart rifle: bad mag or magwell Flamethrower: bad seals or other internal mechanisms, obviously don't have a lot to go on Crossbow: bad string catch......also OOOOWWWW!
Almost all weapon system malfunctioning can be attributed to poor maintenance and bad/improper ammunition. Only time I've ever had a feeding problem with a shotgun is a bad round inhibitor rod letting the tube double and triple feed. Now I'm surprised that someone with your "knowledge" didn't pick up on that the charging handles, ejection ports and actions are completely wrong on almost all of the models. (Since when is an AK variant have the charging handle on the left or an MP5 have a reciprocating charging handle?) (Edit:) Didn't even mention what can happen if you clear a open bolt automatic the way it's shown!
Me: hey das pretty gud Homer: NEEEEEEEEEERD!!!!!!
Bluematchhead well sadly I'm well aware of the fact that if you try to "fix" most of these weapons like the game does, you'll end up damaging it more or destroying the weapon rather then fixing it, as for the incorrect placement of the weapons external workings, I chalk it up to the fact games seldom stay completely true to the weapons and resign myself to it.
@@sharpshooter13ify well in game your supposed to be mid fire fight when the weapons jam the actions taken seem to correlate to fear taking over so the abusive actions make sense
@@sharpshooter13ify you didn't actually read what I wrote did you. If I asked you what a delayed roller action was could you tell me without a cursory internet search?
AR16 is my favourite one. I love how he holds the mag to its side while trying to figure out whats wrong with it, decides to push the front assist (which is dead wrong lol) and reload the gun once the bullet is out. Apart from the front assist thing, im definitely going to try and unjam an M16 next time im in reserved military training lol.
I remember the very first time I had an RPG jam in game, I just stood there looking at it like Willie Cyotee haha. Games a classic
It’s amazing that you can get a sense of how frustrated he is just by his arm and hand movements alone. They did a fantastic job with these animations.
I agree though if only every single weapon model wasn't mirrored
@@peoduction6068 yeah the ak platforms having the open slide on the left is just plain weird
Yeah, even the FAL is mirrored too interestingly, because the bolt handle is supposed to be on the left hand side
@@no-legjohnny3691 yeah thats strange as fuck, but i guess it was made cause of license troubles or smth. Because animating guns on the right side is much harder.
@@cryzieee they probably just wanted to show off the cool shell ejection animations and stuff more than anything else, kinda like Black

Tell that to the AK47, that thing can get soaked in enough mud before jamming and needing to be cleaned.

People are talking about how unrealistic some of these animations are But honestly this is the only game i know to even have this level of detail Edit: bruh wtf, randomly commented 3 years ago and now this? Still the best jam mechanic in recent memory
Leo Li Fallout New Vegas had the chance for range weapons to jam though they were far quicker to fix than what was shown here (literally just needed to click the reload again).
@Sir Quacc i guess they never miss, huh
@@insertname1667 Fallout 3 also had the same jamming system as New Vegas.
The Russian and the Wolf thanks for that, it's been a long time since I last played 3 I couldn't remember if they did jam or not.
