You're not very far off. Vergil became obsessed with power to protect the ones he loves, so he'd never lose them again, but has long since lost sight of the the WHY he wants power, and instead focuses on the HOW he can obtain more, become better, become stronger. This is something his brother even points out to him in 3, though Vergil doesn't want to hear it. Honestly give this series a try if you haven't by now, it's honestly such a beautiful tragedy imo.

Casey Edwards truly is a mastermind when it comes to songs, he made a song that's near enough 10 minutes long and it NEVER gets boring to listen to. Hell, I'd argue it feels too SHORT sometimes like HOW?! Also the last few bits of Bury the Light CLEARLY take a lot from Devil Trigger, just to connect Vergil to Nero even more than he already was.

The irony of Vergil having 'buried the light' in order to obtain more power. Power that now has no purpose, as he has nothing left to protect. Those last four lines of the song hit so hard.
