In this episode, we do another wall of mortar chinking, this time using a wire mesh to hold the mortar together. We then build a new set of front stairs off the south side of the porch that leads directly to the garden. We also increase our solar power capacity using the Jacker Explorer 2000 Plus. We finish the video by installing out bathtub, the drain, and the shower curtain.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

  • Very good work Watch you and your wife build your cabin, it was nice to see you guys not put dead lines on yourselves.....no drama. You are both very good at messaging, amazing job of sizing logs for the floor. House went together with very little talking. Very impressive, thanks for sharing, only one fear , putting plastic on the underside of the roof in winter will cause the house to sweet. Moisture from our breath needs to get out, it may take a year or two before you notice that. All in all very good workmanship

  • Congratulations you two. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. It is a testament to you both that you decided to redo the chinking. This new application looks much better and will provide that protection and loss of heat in the winter. Working in northern Canada in bug season is really hard. I know, living in northern British Columbia, Late May and June was for determined heroes. It is a wonderful feeling building and learning as you go. My husband has long passed, but we had some wonderful 40 years. Keep at you both, right now you are just thinking about building your own home, but you are really building memories - and they live forever ❤❤

  • Flowing water????? Congratulations. The house is beautiful. If you want running water at the log cabin......There are water pumps that do not need electricity and run for decades at no extra costs. Some of these are used here in the Swiss Alps. Inexpensive and just perfect if the source is far away or below the log cabin, for example. Search the internet for the following words: "Aries hydraulic water pump, How it works". As skilled as you both are, you can even build this pump yourself. Have fun...... Greetings from Switzerland

  • I love your channel and your workmanship is outstanding. My first question was going to be about the fires, thanks for your comment on them. I would love to know how your chinking works out. I put chinking on a lean-to (three sided log structure) and I used two different materials, Mortar mix and the other was a USG product Wood Fiber Plaster. My log were not dry so as the logs dried the chinking would pull away. Personally I liked the wood fiber plaster better. I used light weight chicken wire wadded up and where the chinking caught the wire it stayed pretty well. I think your bent over nails will work. Please keep us posted.

  • It maybe worth considering changing one of your front upstairs windows out for a larger opening one and building a nice deck up in top of your nearly flat roof and hey presto you've got yourself a safe private balcony. Inside you could put in a really nice bridge and turn it into a cracking useful feature. Its wot I thought you were building before when you were building you unclosed outside area. It would also free up that inclosed area as an all year round outdoor kitchen. .great work both of you amazing. .
