  • Be honest, the first time you went through Metroid Prime, did you have any idea what was going on? I didn't. lol CORRECTION: At the part why I mention our introduction to a young Samus, I say that shes from Star Colony “K21”, but its actually K2L. Lol… I might to invest in some glasses 😂

    • Great video and Dark Samus is as cool as the Fusion suit in Prime 1 maybe in a later DLC for the Switch version I hope.

    • As Prime (on GCN) was my introduction to the Metroid series, i had no idea what i was getting myself into. I just knew Samus was a women with a badass looking armor that hunted monsters (that's all my teen brain needed to know to want to try it). So going in i knew 2 things, kill everything hostile and uncover the mystery which the game made pretty obvious from the 1st 10 minutes. It turned me into an instant Simp for the series.

    • It was making me wonder if the Manga wrote it with a lower case "L" making it look like K-2l instead of K-2L. Edit: ah yeah I see how that could be easily misread as K-21.

    • Small correction on the dating. The 10 year after Zero Mission part was never canon. Retro planned it but the cutscene mentioning it was never used. The Trilogy Artbook refers to the series taking place 3 years after ZM. That was however retconned aswell. Samus Returns (website) stated that Metroid 2 takes place within a year of ZM. Metroid Prime Federation Force states that Phaaze exploded within a year after the Metroid discovery incident of 20X5. Making Prime in current canon take place within a few weeks to a couple months after Zero Mission

  • Kraid was supposed to be in Metroid Prime, but he wasn’t, and I think the fact that we instead fought him in Metroid Dread would explain why.

  • I still remember reading the log in the Phendrana pirate base that details Tallon IV is too far gone to be saved. Even if all the phazon was cleared out, the planet would die in 20 years. It hit me incredibly hard when I was a kid, it hits even harder now that I'm an adult. I have much more context of the game, all the history, all the life in Tallon IV, gone.

    @Sacren365@Sacren36510 ай бұрын
  • How did the Metroid get to the crater? I always thought it was out there by the Pirates who arrived later, but if the Chozo referred to it as the Worm when they were still alive, was it them then?

  • The most satisfying part about Metroid prime series is when you find a key or lock somewhere and it has that satisfying jingle of making progress and the jingle when you found powerups.. Metroid is one of those where the fuck do I go games so it's fun when you are heading in the right direction

  • The first time I played MP1 I did generally know what was going on. Though I admit to coming to a few misconceptions. As an example, when first playing MP1 on the GameCube I came to the conclusion that the ‘Great Poison’ was referring to the early game boss, Flaahgra. So for a time I thought I had dealt with the root (ha!) of the world’s problem early on, and the rest of the game was dealing with the aftermath of the damage Flaahgra inflicted. It wasn’t until I read the scan logs talking about something being sealed in the Impact Crater that I realized Flaahgra was a byproduct, not the source. Mind you, MP1 does have a few things that are narratively at odds with the rest of the series. For instance, the other games typically say that Mother Brain is the leader of the pirates, but the Prime games reference a very vaguely defined ‘Pirate High Command’ in various Space Pirate log entries and it’s unclear where their authority sits compared to Mother Brain. Some of the logs in MP1 can be interpretably read to suggest that High Command is at least above Ridley who normally feels like Mother Brain’s second in command with nothing between them in the hierarchy.

    @Scuttlest@Scuttlest Жыл бұрын
    • High Command does not necessarily conflict with the mainline series, they could simply not have been mentioned due to a lack of scan terminals in the 2D games, and Ridley & Mother Brain could easily be part of High Command. High Command may have ordered Ridley's reconstruction, but that doesn't mean he was not among their ranks.

      @fury_saves_world@fury_saves_world Жыл бұрын
    • I always assumed high command may have coexisted with mother brain, and took over full governance after her destruction. After all, in Prime 3 we see pirate commandos, and other higher ranks in their military, one would assume they have some other form of hierarchy in their society

      @brandonmaster7901@brandonmaster7901 Жыл бұрын
    • That's actually a really cool way to view the story during a first playthrough. You see all this text about a Great Poison that destroyed a civilization and feel so proud of yourself cause you already destroyed it... only to explore further and realize the true source of the Great Poison is very much still alive and much more sinister than it originally seemed.

      @speedude0164@speedude0164 Жыл бұрын
    • I always assumed that Space Pirate High Command has always been around as soon as the Space Pirates were established during the early days of the Federation, and long before Mother Brain was accepted into their ranks.

  • i think i like the Chozo lore logbook: Hope ( Metroid prime gamecube Na release) [not canon] {newborn is samus} "More and more, our tormented minds turn to the Newborn. As the world continues to shift into brutal, disconnected images, she remains inarguably real; a fearless figure delving deeper into this blighted world, unmindful of the terrors that await her. Was she this way before? When we Chozo found her, a fledgling orphaned on a savaged planet, did a warrior’s pulse already beat in her veins, filling her with righteous fury? Our hopes lie with her. We leave these messages for her, that she may find our Artifacts and deliver the world from its evils. Wraiths we may be, but our reach is still long indeed. We shall fight the invaders, and the Poison they would master, until the end."

I don't know the lore of the Metroid games AT ALL and have never played one but decided to try the Metroid Prime Remaster since I'd heard such great things about that game in particular. I'm enjoying the game so far, but I was completely lost on what was even happening! I now have a much clearer idea of what's going on now and appreciate you taking the time to lay all of this out from beginning to end in a clear and concise manner. As an aside, I had no idea that the Metroid lore ran so deep. Or that there were so many games. Or that there were actually THREE prime games. I've definitely fallen down a rabbit hole now

  • But the big question unanswered : how could a metroid get into the impact crater (blocked by a barrier made by the Chozos) to eventually become the Metroid Prime?? And also, how could the Chozos know about the Worm even before the arrival of the space pirates (who brought the metroids in Tallon IV)?

    @alink6846@alink6846 Жыл бұрын
    • Maybe the worm got its skeletal suit from a Metroid brought by the space pirates, and maybe before that it wasn't a "metroid" but more like a "phazon entity", and that's what the Chozos were describing. But yeah, good question, and potential plothole

    • Theres a lot of different theories out there as to the origin of the Metroid Prime. I gave my best understanding of Prime, but some would even challenge the idea of it being a Metroid altogether. The truth is, a lot of the specific details of the Prime Monster are unknown, and leaves us speculating… which kinda makes it even cooler imho 😂 Love it when theres mystery tied to a sci-fi monster

      @zeltroid@zeltroid Жыл бұрын
    • This is admittedly a plot hole that hasn't been fully revised well. Now, I don't fully recall the story so correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I recall, the original scripts for the NTSC and Japanese versions of the game stated that the Pirates indeed exposed a Metroid to the Phazon of the seed, and then it grew uncontrollably, even integrating their technology into itself, which is how it was originally explained it sharing the beam-coded gimmick that the Elite Pirates do. However, it soon became apparent that that narrative didn't make sense, because that would need the Pirates to have access to the Impact Crater, which was sealed by the Chozo, and was their main objective in Tallon IV so they could mine the Phazon for their nefarious purposes. A paradox. It was later retconned for the European versions of the game that the Metroid Prime came _with_ the Leviathan seed and the whole shebang happened without needing to tackle the whole headache. However, that _still_ didn't make complete sense, because we learn from Metroid II and Fusion that the Metroids as a species were designed and artificially created by the Chozo to combat the X Parasites in SR388, so how a Metroid got into Phaaze is anyone's guess. However, this revision of the lore was kind of expanded upon in Corruption. They expanded upon the Seeds by explaining that they needed guardians to protect them while they did their job mutating the planet, and thus, it was retconned that the Metroid Prime was the guardian of Tallon IV's seed like Mogenar, Helios and Omega Ridley were for their respective planets in Corruption. They kept the narrative that Metroids were bred in Phaaze as well, which well, is kind of flimsy too, but a cool callback, as there's even husks of Metroid Prime's armored form around it. At the end of the day though, Samus did what she does best and destroyed Phaaze, so there's no need to wonder how Metroids came into Phaaze.

Most believe one was mutated by Phazon and phased through the lock and became Metroid Prime, while the Metroid Prime husks in MP3 seem to indicate it was the "worm" present all along. If so, then how did Metroids end up on Phaaze?

    • Lol. Very true. So much of this lore is really awesome, but a lot of it also a convoluted mess 😂

      @zeltroid@zeltroid Жыл бұрын
    • My personal theory is that Phazon cores can mutate differently based on genetic material they corrupt, and absorbing Metroid DNA caused it to become a Metroid in a way. I'd much rather view Prime as the same Worm that destroyed Tallon IV's civilization as opposed to another creature that took it's place, and that's the best way I can explain that being the case. It falls in line with "the chaotic nature of Phazon mutation", and doesn't feel impossible as Tallon IV's Leviathan is the only one we see fully imbedded in its planet.

      @speedude0164@speedude0164 Жыл бұрын

  • I remember doing a run years ago, in which I scanned everything. Some Space Pirate logs (at Phazon Mines, I believe) mentioned Prime was a Metroid that went through tremendous controlled mutation & training, but then turned on them. It was fitted with Trooper gear (explains its armor & weapons) & proceeded to further mutate via consuming Phazon at the impact site, changing the armor into an exoskeleton.

  • I remember going into the Pirate research labs for the first time and just scanning everything out of curiosity and to see if it would open something so I could progress. I honestly don't know how some of it made it into a kid's game, Metroid can be horrifying at certain points and some of those pirate scans describing how they were testing Phazon on living creatures, how horribly mutated they were and how it drove many to insanity really puts into perspective how awful the Space Pirates really are.

Metroid Prime 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone followed by Metroid Prime 2.22 Echoes: You Can (Not) Advance and then Metroid Prime 3.33 Corruption: You Can (Not) Redo and finally Metroid Prime 4: End Of Evangelion 😞 but... I am still happy with Prime Remake

  • So I’m curious now I understand if in the original game on the GameCube, it’s not canon, but I felt I should ask just to get this off my chest. In the original game if you played the game, boy advanced Metroid fusion you could play through prime in the fusion suit. How does that work if it’s supposed to be canon?

  • Lost me at 2 minutes in but cool video. I'll get it someday. Just need to spend more time with the lore. I haven't ever focused on the lore in these games so much but with Dread and Remastered I have become more interested. As a kid I just liked the look and the gameplay. I still love the aesthetic and gameplay but am more curious about the story and appreciate lore more now as an adult.

    @zenithquasar9623@zenithquasar9623 Жыл бұрын
    • Its an after credits scene, BUT you have to collect 100% of the items in order to see it. You can probably still go back to that file, go collect everything, and then beat Metroid Prime again for the ending :)

    • @@zenithquasar9623 I think there may be a couple of items that must be collected by a certain point. I could be wrong on that, however there is a missile expansion in Phendrana Drifts in one of the labs that you have to morphball along a narrow, winding platform just below the ceiling that is difficult enough to get first visit but if you wait too long when you return to the room, the power has been cut so now you must do it in the darkness which is way harder.

  • The one thing I fail to understand is if this was Metroid 1,5, why would Ridley be back to his "organic" self in Metroid III?

    @LinusAndKiba@LinusAndKiba Жыл бұрын
    • Ridley has regenerative abilities as Samus defeats Ridley on Tallon IV it recovers a lot during MP2 which is why it hasn't been seen in that game after in MP3 Corruption that it recovered enough to fight Samus on Norion though the fight is short and it's more of a fall fight so Ridley didn't suffer much damage though somehow he made his way into the leviathan seed and took on the role of guardian but also allowed itself to be corrupted with Phazon and considering how Phazon greatly enhances the creatures natural abilities and gives it new ones Ridley was able to regenerate significantly faster which is why you don't see much of its armor except the one mainly on its chest but it's kinda damaged from previous battles but still even after its been defeated and the corruption gone from its body it has recovered more and threw away more of his cybernetics He appears during Metroid Samus Returns and fights Samus again and the cutscene that follows shows Ridley letting go of the last pieces of its cybernetics so I assume Ridley had recovered fully since Super Metroid takes place directly afterwards and he's fully organic again

  • Wait? Wasn’t prime taking place after snes super metroid? Since ridley is itself in super metroid, doesn’t that mean prime is where pirates try reanimate a dead ridley using mechanical parts?

    @thesis-and-nieces6722@thesis-and-nieces6722 Жыл бұрын
    • No. Prime takes place after Zero Mission but before 2. In the game, there are logs explaining planet SR388 and Metroids still being alive. As to why Ridley being him in flesh again is because ever since his defeat in the first game, Ridley got revived by mechanical and Space Pirate tech and throughout Prime 1 and Prime 3, Ridley is shown healing and needing less mechanical parts and by the time of Metroid 2, Ridley needed very little mechanical parts because his healing process was almost over

  • Is it clear why there was a metroid in the crater? Metroids were created by the chozo, I think

    @DiegoPerez-mb8bs@DiegoPerez-mb8bs Жыл бұрын
    • To answer your question, its really not clear. The origin of the Metroid Prime monster is heavily speculated upon, and theres several different theories out there. The Chozo did create the Metroids though, as a way to deal with the X parasite. I could have dabbled in that aspect more, but I thought I should save the origin of Metroids story for a video about Metroid lore as a whole, and not just Prime

      @zeltroid@zeltroid Жыл бұрын
    • @@zeltroid Yeah I think it was never clear. Yesterday while playing the remaster, in one of the Pirate Logs says that the pirates experimented with phazon on metroids near the crater, but had to kill them due to increased aggressiveness. Maybe one of those metroids became Metroid Prime? But the Chozo Lore mentions metroid prime and that was before the piraate's arrival, so that doesn't make sense... hmm, who knows.

      @DiegoPerez-mb8bs@DiegoPerez-mb8bs Жыл бұрын
  • I think of the Prime-verse as it's own thing. Sakamoto has always dumped on Prime as being non-canon (probably because the Prime games are the best selling Metroid games). And after the Other M Lore disaster - I refuse to consider Prime Samus as the same woman who cries in front of Ridley like a baby. Prime always had the better, more intelligent lore anyway, thank Retro for that.

  • Just one thing. Metroid Prime doesn't take 10 years after Metroid Zero mission, (That was from a audio narration that was never actually used in the game.) It takes probably a few weeks after (The amount of time is never specified.)
