How to attach polymer clay to mugs (and any surface) properly. full tutorial
This is my first video about how to properly attach polymer clay figures on any surface, so that it won't detach later due to hot water (tea, coffee or just washing).
You should bake according to your clay instructions before attaching the figures to the cup. After that you need to prepare surfaces, because after attaching baked figures to the mug they should have strong bond to each other and finished mug should be hot water resistant. For this I use a power rotary tool. Before removing the figures, you need to mark the boundaries which area should be scratched (for this I circled the figures with a marker). After scratching the surfaces of the cup and the figures, you should open the two component epoxy glue and apply on the figures, then put all the figures in their place and fix them so that they don't move. For this I used paper tape. After 10 minutes the glue is already hardened enough. This is a good time to get rid of leaked glues, because once the glue is completely dry, such glues are difficult to remove. That is why I carefully remove redundant glue from the figures with a scalpel.

Thank you so very much for sharing! I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see a tutorial on your Doctor. She is amazing!
Thank you so much! I'll definitely make another video of making a doctor 💜💜
Thank you for sharing this process. ii was in search of sticking clay on mug perfectly u did best. ❤️❤️
Thank you, I'm happy you found my video useful 💜💜
I would love to see some polymer clay art making videos, I think you have talent. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you very much! I'm going to make more videos soon 🌞💜
How did u clean the marks around the clay? Tnx help me alot
Can this be used for cold porcelain air dry clay as well? I love your art!
Hi maam where can I get this epoxy glue Pls suggest
Can I add the glue before baking it?
What glue do u use please.
Should I spray coating on it or leave it as it is? Will the coating be poisonous to people who'll drink from the cup or is it no longer harmful once it dries?
Is this able to be washed?
Ciao...quale colla usi ?
I can guess that you used an epoxy to attach the polymer to your project, but why not give us the instructions & why you are doing what you are doing for those who haven’t done this before? Also let us know if these can be put it in the dishwasher & microwave. This is useful information if we plan on making & gifting one.
Hello. Thank you for your interest. At first this video was recorded for those who work with polymer clay and don't know how to attach their figures correctly so that it stay safely forever, and also their customers shouldn't be unsatisfied after several uses of their mug (or anything). These mugs should only washed with hand, also I don't recommend putting them in the microwave. I plan recording other videos for beginners. I hope my videos will be helpful for you. And now about this video: At first you should bake according to your clay instructions (most often it's 120-130°C) before attaching the figures to the cup. After scratching the surfaces of the cup and the figures, you should open and mix two component epoxy glue and apply on the figures, then put all the figures in their place and fix them so that they don't move. For this I used paper tape. After 10 minutes the glue is already hardened enough. This is a good time to get rid of leaked glues, because once the glue is completely dry, such glues are difficult to remove. That is why I carefully remove redundant glue from the figures with a scalpel. Feel free to ask anything you need to know. Best wishes ✨💜

Hi, I use UHU epoxy glue, the same as you, to bond my clay to mug. But after several days later, when I try to wash, polymer clay is removed easily. Please help me to solve this
Was it a dremel tool that you used to sand down the cup and clay sculpture before applying the glue?
Yes, it is Dremel tool and working with it is very comfortable and saves your time ✨💜
do you recommend a varnish? that will withstand washing also... great video 👌
Thank you 🌞 I rarely use varnish (Fimo gloss or semi-gloss varnish), if i need vet effect like liquids or else I prefer UV resin after my project is already baked and attached to the mug ☺️
Hi mam can u make a deatailed video about polymer clay work on mugs...about baking & sticking so that it will be helpful for beginners..thank u
Will you be doing anymore mug tutorials please?
Hello. You can watch my new tutorial here, Thank you
This is so cute. You do great work. What kind of sanding tool are you using, may I ask???
Thank you very much! 💜 This is power rotary tool, just google there are many options in brands. Note: The most comfortable thing you will need is tool with flex shaft attachment. It's easier to work with this 😊
@@DeepSun Thank you Deep Sun
Did you also bake the mug inside the oven? It'll not crack or explode? What mug did you use? Ceramic? Porcelain? Or ordinary mugs can bought on store?
We throw the mug into the oven. Nothing happens😊
After gluing the polymer clay on the mug can I use it for drinking then wash it normally? Your artwork is amazing 💕💕
Thank you very much 💜💜 Yes you can use and wash normally (hand wash only). Make sure that you use correct glue, two part epoxy adhesive 😊
The epoxy I have takes hours to dry can I still use that?
Where do you purchase the simple white mugs from? Xx
I buy them in local stores
What brand epoxy adhesive do you use? Also your art is amazing 😍
Thank you so much! 💜 I use several brand adhesives, most often it's 2 part Moment epoxy adhesive. Also Bison is very good choice. Main thing is that it should be transparent and water and heat resistant 😊
@@DeepSun thank you so much 😊
So I can use my part a and part b epoxy? Mine takes like 24 hours to cure how does yours take 10 min?
Thank you for this video, could you maybe add some instructions? You didn’t say if you baked the clay first, you didn’t explain what you mixed to glue to the cup? Why did you go round with a scalpel? Thank you for taking time to show us, lovely mug.
Hello. Thank you for your interest. English is not my first language and so I did not speak it in this video. You should definitely bake according to your clay instructions before attaching the figures to the cup. This is a good time to get rid of leaked glues, because once the glue is completely dry, such glues are difficult to remove. That is why I carefully remove redundant glue from the figures with a scalpel. I hope I explained everything completely. Feel free to ask anything you need to know. Thank you ✨💜
What type of clay do you use? Air dry or bake?
Air dry clay isn't sustainable for washing because it absorbs moisture and will become soft again. I use polymer clay that needs to be baked 😊
Oh no 😢 I scraped my mug but forgot to scrape the clay too😩 Do you think it'll be fine? Thanks for the video
hello what glue do you use
I use two-component epoxy adhesive
Thank you. What kind of glue did you use? I understand that you scratched the surface to prior to glue to strengthen the bond between the two surfaces. But why did you scratch around the pieces after gluing them?
Hello and sorry for late response 🌞 I use a two-component crystal clear epoxy adhesive. When I attach the figures to the mug, a small amount of glue comes out of it. The glue will harden after 10-15 minutes and that is the best time to take superfluous glue off. Sorry English isn't my first language, feel free to join my group in FB (Deep Sun warriors) where I can give you detailed explanation with photos or videos. Best wishes 🌞
