    • One has to consider though, that a lot of the Indian chess prodigies only have an absolute basic school education. As far as I know they basically quit school after around elementary school, thus having endless time to study chess afterwards. This is not comparable to the situation in western countries where chess players often finish high school at age 18.

    • Yeah. Always felt his trajectory is much more Magnus like than the other kids. And he is consistent too after all he qualified by fide circuit. Hope he becomes world champ, he was always my favorite. But of course any Indian winning is good. Vidit and Pragg are amazing too.

  • No idea why Gukesh keeps being underrated. He’s ridiculously solid and comes up with brilliant moves. His game is really well suited for classical time formats.

    • Because it’s the best players in the world and the margins are razor thin. It’s normal to expect players like Hikaru, Fabiano and Ian to be favourites considering they all have higher ELOs than Gukesh and way more experience. Credit to Gukesh for overperforming expectations and putting himself in a position to win the tournament though

    • Gukesh is not underrated ... He is properly rated . It's just that Indian media hype Pragg for defeating Magnus and doesn't care about anything else . And tbh I feel Pragg abit overrated. They have hyped Pragg just like used to do for Firouzja few years back.

  • Man, these interviews are just freaking amazing. Levy has done his homework on each player, and has prepared personalised questions based on it. Plus this is more like a conversation, and such a breath of fresh air. None of the answers are like media trained answers. All of this, humanises each of the players. Seriously, amazing work.

  • I'm rooting for Nepo since I'm from Russia. But after about 3 or 4 rounds, I discovered that Gukesh is my second favorite. I've never been so worried about a foreigner before. He has the energy and mentality of a champion... I am sure that someday Gukesh and Nodirbek will fight each other for the world title.

  • Gukesh gets my full Respect I love the fact his focus is Classical Chess and he’d rather play in OTB tournaments than on line it’s why he is as Great at what he does he’s been my favorite player for awhile to be honest I wasn’t sure he would do extra great in the candidates but he’s been excelling surprising a lot of people you have to respect his determination I couldn’t be happier if he won this Candidates and also went on to defeat Ding but most of that is easier said than done a lot can happen in tournament yet but always Rooting for Gukesh

  • This guy deserves more respect by Magnus than Alireza ever did. He is the future of the game for sure. And some people will probably mention the last game between them in the candidates. It simply means nothing. This guy has the confidence of a champion.

  • Gukesh literally had the perfect answers for every question. No skirting around the question, just great responses. So many people will respond to questions in roundabout ways, but Gukesh.. just answers them with honesty which I really like and respect.

  • It's quite apparent to me that Gukesh mental game is his biggest strength. Given, that many people are better at hiding their nerves, but Gukesh comes across as someone who doesn't get too excited or down, just a warrior spirit with a high level of self awareness. It will make him tough to beat when his skill gets even better.
