  • Just so we're CLEAR... The PRIMARY airflow coming into the engine does NOT come in that tiny, rectangular tube he points to when he's showing you the factory airbox. It comes in through the square-ish inlet hole at the top right of the box (as viewed here), that is only in the camera shot for a short moment at 1:13 directly facing you. It connects to the snorkel that goes over your radiator and out the front of the hood.

  • My setup basically went as you recommended it! (330ci) Upgraded intake to a proper cold air (short ram intakes just suck in hot air) Headers, catless downpipe, resonator and magnaflow muffler (some drone low end, goes away at 2.5-3k rpm) Got style 32's 18x8? Paired with falken azenis. (Unless drifting) Bc coils br 8k front 10k rear For brake pads, i use hawk pads and have dot 4 brake fluid. No need for a bbk yet (maybe soon!) Just those mods alone made it a whole new car. Love the e46 just as much if not more than my e30!

  • Also, in addition to considering drilled rotors you should consider the added performance of drilled and slotted rotors (this is what I use). Also you will do well to pay close attention to the materials they are made with; especially if you are planning big upgrades in engine performance. The best rotors are made of carbon-ceramic and very costly; but well worth the cost in terms of performance, quality and longevity (almost a must if you plan on 400HP or more). Good video for fun inexpensive small upgrades.

  • I think this knowledge is really useful, although you can't just plug and play an air filter like that, you have a high possibility of losing power and possibly more symptoms. It's definitely suggested to have it tuned before and after. This will give you maximum performance, and it's just worth it over all. And also not suggestied if your not willing to keep up with the oil process on a regular basis. I Feel like that should have been mentioned in the video.

    @mykela5925@mykela59252 жыл бұрын
    • I know what you're saying about oiling. If you do it correctly it is NOT a 5 minute job, more like a few hours to let the element dry properly and to allow time for oil to evenly soak around the element. That being said K & N, for example, suggest that it only needs to be done once or twice per year.

  • I get the point of air intakes but man, the only way to shed the heat of an engine bay is to have the pod outside of it, ally heat shield will heat up to temp surrounding it so not worth a spit as I see it. Great cars, Great videos well presented.

  • These expensive exhausts do the same thing, more exhaust flow. So the first thing is remove the cat. It will still allow inspection in most states. After that change out muffler. Just doing this will get u as close to a flowing exhaust before you do a header.

    @thinkinoutsidethebox9078@thinkinoutsidethebox90782 жыл бұрын
  • Most people are on a budget when wanting performance. That's why I say go for cheapest first with the cat n later muffler delete.

  • Don't forget one of the best things you can do to ANY car: Weight reduction. If you've got the budget, replace the roof, hood, and trunk with carbon fiber panels apprx $1200 / ea. you can get carbon fiber doors for the e46 aswell, but the only ones I've seen went for roughly $4k / piece.

  • The order should start with the exhaust part, not the intake. The exhaust part is what causes the air to even enter the intake. Installation of the Exhaust Headers on the engine is the most beneficial mod you can make on N/A engine. Also, there is nothing wrong with the stock air intake, you dont push any air in it, its as restrictive as your exhaust part. There is maybe 0.01% difference in stock vs aftermarket intake having a stock engine.

  • K&N is better for the air intake, and manaflow, borla, or blitz is the best for exhaust and keep it dual shotgun 😉, borla makes ones that up performance but keeps the same growl, most of these if you have the sports package your e46 will already have this done like the coil overs and suspension, mine came stock stanced right with the stock z3 bond 007 rims, brakes id do brembo or wilwood, also he forgot to mention to also get performance spark plugs and better hoses and wiring, replace the plastic with something more durable, you will thank me later trust me.... and don't forget a killer sound system 🤣🤣🤣 I got the factory kardon 450 watt amp hooked up with a 2200 watt boss afterglow 6 channel amp and replaced all speakers in the car with pioneer 1200 watt, and harmony subs 2 in the trunk and 3 along the back seat, all been ported and bridged, a pioneer head unit as well that has the dj track system and latest features, that touch screen radios look trashy and distracting, I keep it classy

    @sasukeuchihaanbucapt@sasukeuchihaanbucapt3 жыл бұрын
    • K&N CAI is a downgrade from the stock airbox, the only aftermarket intake I would ever even think about replacing the stock airbox with for my daily would be the Dinan one.

      @RC-zb8tl@RC-zb8tl Жыл бұрын
  • I'm doubtful that that cold air intake kit would make any power over the stock box ... or even be likely to provide more cold air than the factory box. Factory box intakes through both the short snorkel off the front, but also has ducting off the side that goes right to the front of the grill. I'd be willing to bet that a direct comparison dyno would net no gains, and possibly even a minute amount of lost power

  • What are your thoughts on lowering a e46 with AWD? I’ve heard and read mixed reviews within the community that lowering the car will ruin the front axel. While others are saying they have no issue with the car?

    @ThatOneRandomDude10@ThatOneRandomDude103 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Juan, Thanks for the question. I have little to experience with the AWD E46. I can say this though - There is lowering, and there is LOWERING.I would think that if you were installing a lowering kit from a reputable company like Bilstein, H & R etc, that you should have no problem. If you were wanting to lower more than the 'Off the Shelf' suspension kits then you are going to run into issues with altering the roll height too much which is going to have an adverse effect on you suspension geometry, which could be the cause of the feedback or reviews that you've read about axle issues. I would speak directly with the people who know best, and contact on the suspension companies like Bilstein and talk to them about what you want to do. They should be able to advise you about any other modifications that you may have to make in order to get the set up you want. I am always wary about Forums and the like because the bad reviews you see could be the result of poor installation, or other pre existing suspension problems that were on the car before they installed the new suspension. Hope this helps, and could luck with your build, love to hear how you go. Michael Taylor

  • Tip#1 Never use an oiled Cone filter on BMW. sure it takes 20 minutes to install, but Later when the MAF fails that's $300.00. The only gains are Audible. Also the intake he removed cost BMW Hundreds of Thousands of dollars in R&D. There are intake scoops that BMW guys use, but normally a Cone Oilled filter is a NOOB screwup that the next owner will have to replace. I just finished another e46. Didn't hear him mention tire, RE71 and kt615 are good.

Re tyres (we spell with a 'y' in Aus), I deliberately did not mention the tyre choice because I find it to be really personal. For example, I have run Bridgestones on numerous cars over the years and not once found them to my liking, (even though a few of my mates recommend them). Since I made this vid, I have installed Hankook RS4's despite the fact I have never had these before. So trying something new. Re - the cone filter / MAF probs. In over 40 years of using oiled filters on numerous cars and motorbikes, I have never had an issue with the oil from the filter causing problems with other components in the intake. If you have used so much oil on the filter that it is be sucked into the MAF, it is not a filter problem but rather an oil application problem and the oil has not been used according to the instructions. So the 'NOOB' mistake is applying too much oil to the filter, and not choosing an oiled unit. I once again thank you very much for taking the time to leave a comment and raise your concerns. All the best Michael Taylor

    • An M3 engine can be used, but the prices of those are insane! Just get a m54b28 or something similar. ECU and engine from the M3 will be too expensive for it to be worth it, rather just buy a new car then

    • If you go to the Supersprint website, enter your cars details and it will list the options available. It will even tell you what connects to what. Supersprint sell in the individual sections so you'll want a front, mid and rear.

    @vominator@vominator2 жыл бұрын
  • "cold air intakes" on e46s do nothing and actually are more likely to hurt performance and longevity of the engine, especially if you're sitting in traffic a lot. The stock air intake is already a "cold air intake" as it brings in air through the kidney grilles... the only one worth getting is the bmw performance intake which is like $900 lol.

  • pod filters are way worse than the factory intake, even with a shield, they are sucking in air from the engine bay which is hotter than the normal intake

    @whenspurs@whenspurs3 жыл бұрын
    • This guy is just giving us bulshit. Starting with this intake. Fist of all, it is not taking air just throughout that small flat side ,but more from the top right side of the front of the air box. Second, if you will switch to pod filter, you will need a soft tune, cose you will run so f ..king lean. All this gay people start making videos, about changing things to your car ,that have very little idea, about what they say. :( :( :(
