A Diamond in the Rough - Saving a Beautiful French Provincial Set
Wow, I had no idea how much work this would be! It was so much that I had to step away from it for a couple of months before coming back to finish stripping the paint and sanding it all down to paint again. It was such a high quality set under all that peeling paint and nastiness. I absolutely love how it turned out and hope you do, too.

They turned out beautiful and perfect for a baby girl nursery!
Thanks so much!
How beautiful and elegant for a nursery ❤
I think so too!😍
Wow, it’s hard to believe that is the same furniture. Everything turned out beautifully. Love your videos. 😊
Thanks so much, Karen! I really appreciate the encouragement and you watching. This one definitely got a much needed facelift.
Your hard work was rewarded with a beautiful piece that the family will cherish and enjoy! It’s stunning and the color looks great! I love the hardware in gold, it looks so traditional. You did a fantastic job!
Thank you! Really appreciate it!!
This turned out, absolutely gorgeous. You should be proud of yourself. It was a lot of work and it turned out very very well.
Thank you so much! It was a lot of work, and I am very proud of how it turned out. ☺️ Thankful for that reward after lots of hours!😅
Absolutely beautiful👍💕👏👏👏
Thank you, Elizabeth! Really appreciate you watching!💜
@@Restorations.by.Rachel You're very welcome 🤗🤗🤗
All of your hard work paid off. Nice job!
Thanks so much, Janice!
This turned out beautifully
Thank you!☺️
So 🌹 lovely❤ We are always learning lessons. Even long time pros make mistakes. I loved the color and I hadn't heard of the 50% water and 50% vinegar trick. At 72 I love learning new things. Congratulations 🎉🎉
Thank you! And yes, totally agree. I’m glad I was able to help you learn something.
I know it was a lot of work but oh my goodness it turned out really beautifully.
Thank you. It certainly was, but I am really happy with how it turned out. Thanks so much for watching!
So gorgeous Rachel!
Thank you, Shannon!
Oh man so beautiful
Thank you so much, Cathy! So glad you liked them, too.💜
It's beautiful. That color has been in the top 5 in all the brands for 15 years under one name or another. I have a lighter hue called Dusty Rose on my walls. It's the perfect color neutral.
Thank you! That would be a really pretty color on walls, too.
@@Restorations.by.Rachel I have it in my kitchen to my connecting living room. I also had my room painted I liked it so much.
Precioso 💖 💖
Muchas gracias!💜
I love it. It turned out beautiful. 🌹 Greetings from Germany
Thank you! And so fun to have you watching from Germany!☺️
Great job! Really pretty ❤
Thanks so much, Teresa! Appreciate you watching.💜
I do believe that you make a wonderful job U inspired me
Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that!
I had the same furniture they very sturdy and well made I still have the desk
Oh how cool! I bet the desk is pretty. Thanks so much for watching!
What a beautiful colour and beautiful job .well done❤
Thank you, Lynne! I really love it, too. It’s a really pretty purple.
I think it's beautiful!
Thank you, Joann!
Good job
Thank you, Agneta!
Looks great, very nice work. Next time drawers don’t close properly try switching them around, sometimes that little step corrects the problem.
Thank you! I actually tried doing that but it didn’t work this time for whatever reason. Appreciate the helpful tip! Thanks so much for watching.💜
I really don’t like paint, but that said, I am so impressed with your patience and commitment (although, maybe you weren’t so committed off camera?) And, the result of all your efforts, was very impressive, and surprisingly I really liked both the paint and the color 😊
Thank you! I am very committed to each piece. I believe in doing your best if you’re going to do something. With that said, I am continuing to learn with each piece and there is always something to improve upon.
Beautiful. You got a new subscriber!
Awesome! Thank you! I appreciate you watching and following along.
Beautiful🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thank you!!😊
I'm not a fan of French Provincial but this pretty and it will be so cute in a nursery.
Glad this one still won you over. Thanks for watching!
Wowzers…great job bringing the dead back to life😳😍😍
Haha thanks so much!☺️ It was pretty bad wasn’t it?!😅
@@Restorations.by.RachelHi Rachel, just a little tip…you should invest in lead paint detection sticks just to make sure in the future that there is no lead in the painted pieces and you are able to remove it safely. I know you wear a respirator and thats great, but a little knowledge about what you’re getting yourself into is a good idea also, so you can take necessary steps.😊 you’re doing great!!
Thank you! I actually have those that I used on an antique piece, but you’re right, I should’ve tested this one, too. Thank you for the reminder!
These turned out beautifully. I have a dresser and mirror just like this one that I’m planning on painting soon. I hope mine turns out as well as yours did! 👍
@@darlawoodkowski4913thank you! I’m sure it will! Let me know if you have any questions as you tackle it.
I was wondering if you have used the finish stripper by Green Ez. I noted you used their cleaner. Its supposed to be non toxic and more environmentally friendly. Given the time you spent getting the finish off, your exposure time was significant. I choose to do whatever I can in this new hobby of mine to avoid techniques that require PPE. My quest is to also learn from the trial and error of the content creators who so generously share their successes and lessons learned. You excel in that! I personally enjoy bringing new life to disaster pieces. But as a retired healthcare provider working mostly with trauma, I guess I lean to being a fixer, not just a transformer. Also, though I sell some pieces and do some commission work, it's a hobby, so time is less critical to my choices. I urge you to continue to share your projects as you do a great service in educating and inspiring others.
Thank you! I have learned so much from others on KZhead and that’s why I decided to start creating content myself, since it’s something I’ve fallen in love with and am such a visual learner myself. The one downside to this hobby is the exposure to chemicals. Like you, I try my best to use PPE but also would like to not wear it when I can. I did this refinish a couple months ago and have since used Green EZ’s stripper also, and really like it, too. It has a longer work time but I think it’s worth it for the safety. Thanks for watching!💜
I would never paint over that beautiful wood!
Totally understand. My original goal was to not do that but unfortunately there were several places in the veneer of the curve of the drawers that I had burned through with sanding and I don’t think I could have made it look right with staining. I’m still learning and will make sure to be more careful in the future. Thanks for watching!
@@Restorations.by.Rachel ..I’ve been refinishing furniture for over 30 yrs and I believe that the nicks and scratches add character to the piece. I mostly deal with oak because I love the different patterns of the grains. I understand why you painted but it’s just my personal opinion. You did a great job and keep learning!
@@ottomedic51texas75 ou. I’ve just been doing this for under a year and have fallen in love with it, although I have done some DIY in woodworking here and there prior. There is always something new to learn! I also like the character from nicks and dings but I feel like not everyone does. I think it looks better on stained pieces vs painted tho. I also love Oak for its beautiful grain. Nice to connect with you on here. I imagine you have a wealth of knowledge from your experience!
Hi Rachel, OMG, I can't believe someone had the nerve to charge for that, they should of paid you to take it away. All that being said you made it look amazing, I love the color, I'm glad it sold for a baby girl, great work....Take care...cheers !!! 🍁 🍁
Hahaha it was so bad, wasn’t it?! I honestly didn’t realize how bad it was until I got home with it. Lesson learned.😅 Thanks so much for watching and for the kind compliment!❤
Nice job! If you're able to adjust the volume on the voice-over, the music and the mic, that would be helpful but not a deal killer.
Thank you. I’ll pay more attention to that for sure the next time. Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
❤
Thanks for watching!💜
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!
Were any of the layers lead paint?
Someone mentioned that I should’ve tested. I do have a testing kit, but I didn’t think to do it on this piece. I wasn’t thinking it was that old, but it would’ve been best practice to test.
you use a $600.00 sander why not a better spray gun ?
I actually really like the spray gun. It has produced a very good finish in my experience. And yes, the cost of the sander is very high, but I purchased it on Black Friday and viewed it as a long-term investment. I may upgrade my spray gun eventually, but for now, I really like this one. Thanks for watching!
@rytyky03 maybe that spray gun is of her preference. The price does not determine how a tool will work for you
@@Mejiaelis price of the tool determines a lot. go by a hart drill and milwaukee drill. night and day. what i have notice 2 lot of furniture flippers use his end sanders and beginner spray guns. to me this makes zero logic. a 600.00 spray gun does a better job than a 150;00 spray gun. my 2 cents.
Bad audio. Can't hear very well and then when it gets better it's too loud
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll look into it.
It may be your phone. I heard the video just fine.
Don’t like it then don’t watch, but don’t be rude about it just because you’re jealous of how great she made these look… & I’m even a FR££ SP££€H ABSOLUTIST too. Just Don’t! This video/content was exceptionally done & she did a PHENOMENAL JOB of bringing that dresser & nightstand back to life from the dead. I also understand the pains of having to redo things like this 3-4 different times in my line of work as well too. On the last part I could literally feel Rachel’s FRUSTRATION when the drawer wouldn’t fully close & having to re-sand it back down again & again. On top of having to come up with other game plans for the handles/hardware on it too. Truly I hope wherever these end up they’re appreciated for years to come & or that Rachel got/gets paid TOP dollar for them, because truly they are great.
Yes I agree
@@PiercesPerfectPiecesthank you so much for the encouragement! I should’ve mentioned the price I got paid, as I find that’s helpful as well if thinking about redoing furniture to sell. This has been my highest selling item by far at $750 + $25 for delivery. I charged more for this since I knew the quality was there.
Speak more clear please hard to catch what you say some times
Thank you for letting me know and for watching.💜
@mariawilliford6701 really? I lost 70-80% of my hearing n my left ear and I had no issues understanding her
