I admire Mike. He is willing to learn. I can tell. At Quality he was always showing us what he new. Now he is showing us what he is learning.

You seem very intent on jumping on this new adventure, but here is a view from the outside. Not being compensated for sitting should be a serious issue. They can schedule as many trucks as they want to sit for how long waiting for the oil, and it costs them nothing. That is a big advantage that they have no investment in you sitting waiting for a load. The truck payment is every thirty days, whether it sits still or is moving.
@Mike444605 ай бұрын
They do pay for sitting.. I have only say a couple of times.. they do everything they can to move us along.. the problem with the 4.5 hour wait was a mix up with dispatchers who messed up.. we still get paid for sitting unlike at OTR at Quality..

@ridingshotgun1251 Back in the mid 1980s, I had an expedite truck, one ton 12' box. Had to get there right now, snowy weather NE Ohio. Waited eight hours! Had to back in the building so at least the truck got to melt off a lot of ice and snow. Can't remember if I got anything for it. I'm always say that driving 12 hours to Myrtle Beach or 12 hours moving freight is a completely planet. Be safe, I enjoy the videos.

That's what's nice about hourly pay and 4 or 8hour minimums.

Honestly, being self-employed is not all it’s cracked up to be I was self-employed for 18 years and looking back. I didn’t really like it, but thank God, my mom was a part of it because she did all the paperwork and that’s one thing I detest doing is paperwork.

Just my $,02 and I am not a trucker so my idea is worth just what it cost you.. I am a retired computer guy but I was raised around farming and trucks and tractors and all that kind of gear. If I were you I would gain experience until spring on the company gear. Then when roads improve in the spring get your own truck. Then you have all summer with good roads to build more experience with your own gear. That would be my plan, but I overthink everything. I do think getting your own truck is a great idea.
