Today, I will show you what you can do, where to go, and what to eat in Hanoi, Vietnam, if you only have 24 hours. Here is the itinerary:
👉7am: Eat Pho for breakfast
Address: 10 Lý Quoc Su, Ha Noi
Tip: Best combo: Phở tái chín (rare and cooked beef Pho), quẩy (fried bread sticks), trứng trần (balanced eggs), and trà đá (iced tea)
👉8am: Drink egg coffee
Address: 11 Hang Gai, Ha Noi
Tip: Sit at the top to see Hoan Kiem Lake
👉10am: Visit Văn Miếu Quốc Tử Giám (The first university of Vietnam)
Address: 58, Quoc Tu Giam street, Hanoi
Tip: Watch out for the high door barrier
👉12pm: Eat Bun Cha Hang Manh
Address: 1 Hang Manh street, Hanoi
Tip: Order the special bowl with egg rolls, so good!!!
👉2pm: Visit Hoa Lo prison
1 Hoa Lo Street, Hanoi
Tip: Watch this videobit.ly/3Mm4yNm
👉4pm: Eat Trang Tien ice-cream
Address 35 Trang Tien, Hanoi
Tip: Vanilla and young rice flavors are the best, in my opinion
👉4:30pm: Hop on, hop-off bus tour
Hoan Kiem lake near Thuy Ta ice cream
Tip: They have cone hats just in case it's too hot also watch out for those branches
👉6:30pm: Drink coffee at Cong Cafe
Address: 116 Cau Go, Hanoi
Tip: The milk tea I ordered was not very good, so stick with coffee :) Nice view though
👉8pm: Eat Cha Ca (Fish cake)
Address: 1 Dinh Tien Hoang street, Hanoi (4th floor in Shark Jaw building Hàm cá mập)
👉10pm: Nightlife in West Lake area (quận Tây Hồ)
Here is the list of bars: I like Hideout bar and Sala Club

  • *" ... you not only enjoy the sweetness of present moments ... but you also appreciate the bitterness of history."* *SO deep!* THAT is why I love your vlog SO much. You don't just bring us all the sites and sounds and food ... you share a bit of your soul with us, reminding us to be "human" as we see that amazing place through your eyes. You do it so elegantly. I know they are a LOT of work, but the music video-type quick edits make the video look so professional and really glue your eyes to the screen. Well worth the effort! I really appreciate your work! Something that really amazes me about Vietnamese food is how beautiful it is. Even the street food can often look like it was made to be featured in a foodie magazine. It's fascinating!

    • @Tran Duy Pollution is everywhere in major cities. Sadly, It is part of the human condition. I lived in New York City, and Guangzhou, China. In the NYC subway system, you could often see rats as large as housecats just FEET from you. In Guangzhou, it could be so smoggy, you could stare right at the sun without sunglasses. It just is what it is. But, like anywhere else in the world, you have to look past that, do your best not to contribute to the problem(s), and find the good where you are. It is sad that you found no good there in that historic city. But, as this video shows, Hanoi, like NYC or Guangzhou, has much to offer, from history, to culture, to food. You just have to look beyond the big city issues and embrace the good.

I have a project at Hoan Kiem Lake (Four Seasons) and in Ha Long Bay (Intercontinental). I always enjoy the food, coffee and sights of Hanoi! I know that Pho 10 place so well; in fact, I took my Vietnamese friend from Saigon for dinner there. He was impressed!

I think your video is very helpful for the tourists who’re seeking for some local recommendations, like that egg coffee, I’m gonna definitely make it a stop along the trip in Hanoi. Vietnam’s cuisine is a perfect mix of eastern cuisine and western cuisine, which perfectly reflects Vietnamese wisdom and uniqueness. Keep up the good work :)

Not really a tour guide but she has to talk to tourists around the city in English giving them information about the Hanoi, especially the lake. Thanks so much, she really paid attention, listened to your clear English, and learned some new things about Hanoi. She can't completely understand everything but she is getting more confident!

Ah really cant decide 🤷‍♂Nice itinarary. Brings back memories. Gotta go again not been to HCM City yet so thats definitely on the list next time. Thanks for the tips and videos. much appreciated. • Van, thanks for the video and it shows you include a little of everything that for tourist to learn a little about Vietnam/Hanoi but also for Vietnamese. I left Vietnam as a little kid so I do not know much about Vietnamese history like which building or university was orignally in Hanoi. You have a quick learning system especially language that you can sharpen your English for just a 7 years in the US, sadly there are many people that spent 20 years here in the US and still speak broken English...I am not dissing them just that they might not have time to go to school and try to earn a living first. I never been in Hanoi hopefully when the pandemic is completely over I will visit my home country (US is my home country as well). Keep going with whatever you are doing right now.

This region has many different ethnics, and it has some of the most amazing lush landscapes and vegetation, and cultures, you don't see anywhere in the world. Even for Vietnamese, going to this region is a unique experience, and for Westerners, it's like straight out of Hollywood Vietnam war movies stuff

  • What an amazing guiding video! Everything is introduced in great details and in a very friendly way. This is definitely what tourists need to fully explore our capital city. Even though I live in Hanoi, I haven't even tried most of the things that are suggested in the video, I think I should do it some day 😅. Anyway, there's still a small misinformation. The first university in Vietnam is the Imperial Academy(Quốc Tử Giám), not the the Temple of Literature(Văn Miếu). As they're located in the same place and together they make a complex, people are often confused between the two. But Văn Miếu is actually just a temple, it is Quốc Tử Giám that was truly the first university in our country

  • When you mentioned condensed milk during the war reminds me of a story my mom told me that when my uncle, her younger brother, was a baby/toddler he was given sweetened condense milk back then. She never told me why, but now I'm thinking it's because it lasted longer. 😔

      @WhatThePho@WhatThePho2 жыл бұрын
    • Condense milk is the poor man's way of making milk and feeding it to their kids. Real milk are more expensive n a luxury to have. Plus shelf life is longer kept since it is in a tin can. They were popular during the flight of the boat people after the war. The authorities would watch which family be buying more than enough like in bulk and they would watch them. There is only one reason why someone would buy in bulk. They are storing it for a run as boat people. My family bought small to stay under the radar. However, we have many people so each bought small quantity, when added together, it will be a bulk order. We would hid it out there in a bunker underneath the beach sand. When the time comes and in the middle of the night, we make a run for it. Our elders, if they are still living will drink the condense milk with hot water mix or we put the condense milk onto a French bread and eat it like that. It's culture.

  • Hi Vanvu I just found your chanel and it's fantastic. I'm visiting Hanoi for 2 weeks probably in October. I'm spending a month in the Phillipines in September visiting a couple of friends one lives in Cebu and the other in Dumaguete. He's married to a filipina and they have a condo they rent to tourists and visitors so I'll stay with them. The friend in Cebu lived in Vietnam before moving to Cebu and is a big fan of the food, history and culture. He visits Hanoi every 6 months for visa purposes. He's recommended the Manor 2 and can get me a good rate. That's where I'll probably stay. I found your what to do in 1 day guide very useful and informative having 14 days to explore will be awesome. I'm a coffee lover and love asian cuisine. I like watching you eat you certainly love food!😁. Could I ask a slightly personal question? How do you eat and stay so slim? Me? I can gain a kilo just by reading the menu to decide what to eat😊. Your vlogs have given me some ideas of things to do and see so thanks for that. I'll certainly be seeing some more of them before I arrive. I think I may book a local guide for one or two days to show me around help me learn a few basic phrases and pronunciation. I've travelled a lot and find locals are far more helpful and friendly if you try to speak their language. Can you recommend any tourist guides? Thanks again for a great chanel. Steve
