Such a shame they don't have the RS form factor as an option for people doing BASE, speedriding, wingsuit, paragliding etc.
What are your thoughts on using this camera for talking head videos? using the 8k30
I find it very suspect that none of the major influencers are comparing the X4 to the 1-inch. I do not think Insta360 wants that comparison to happen. This camera seems to be marketed using the 8K resolution it has and not the fact that it's the exact same sensor in the X3. I bought the X4 and have the 1-inch and I can say without a doubt that I am keeping my 1-inch and returning the X4. The 1-inch is so much better. If any of you are semi knowledgable about cameras, you know the most import aspect of a camera is its image sensor capability. Light gathering is everything. I will wait for the 8k 1-inch to come out. That will add even more detail to the 1-inch and trust me, it's not missing a ton. The X4 is only necessary if you need a waterproof camera without using additional accessories or want something a bit lighter, but if you own the 1-inch, I say save your money.

Totally agree, Chap. As a sports lover myself I can't really see myself using a traditional action camera with a fixed POV anymore. Having the flexibility of 360 footage is just so liberating in post... Also now that 8K is here, I'm really convinced to finally only bring ONE camera to all of my trips. Great stuff! And I'm really glad they finally brought us 60 FPS at a reasonable quality. Can't wait to see the slow mo shots.
It does not say anything about night videos, why? Is this not good for night videos?
What a great review! Motion ND looks interesting. Like your choice of transport. Fiat 500 (affectionately known as the fart box) used to be my daily driver about 40 years ago. Video quality looks substantially improved.
So many questions. How do you edit video? Can you save it on your pc and watch the 360 video there too and move around with the cursor? Can you watch the video with a VR headset and move your head around in a 360° bubble?
Amazing camera, it seems in X4 the chip is upgraded so it can catch more details, which is very great. And its fram rate has improved significantly, for action sports it is a big plus. I can also see in the video, this camera can produce very good video under low-light situation, for me it is very useful. I will definitly want to have one! Great 360 camera!
They removed the Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) feature. It was in the X3, but not X4. It was my most used feature. I wasted my money upgrading.
OMG, also saw some latest vid on the new camera's AI chip upgrade and I'm literally blown away! I think the sensor can now pick up even more details with that crispy image quality, am I correct?

Well I'll be damned. This new chip seems to get quite a bit more detailed over my old X2, X3 wasn't a big enough upgrade for me. Also the missing 60 fps on 5.7 kept me away from an upgrade so far, I kinda need a bit of cinematic slowmo :D also the low light scenes in the reviews I saw so far looked decent (for an action cam). Amazing review, I'm gonna get one... just need to convince the wife first :P

It doesn't have a bigger sensor because they would have to make the whole device even bigger and have even more cooling to stop it from over heating. They will no doubt create a one-inch sensor version of this like they did for the last generation.
Actually, not true and they would not have to go to a 1 inch, there have been leaps in sensor tech since they used the present one from 18 months ago. More efficient. more heat resilient. Reason they didnt do it, is then they couldnt cash grab like they do every 14/18 months. Then use youtubers to push their products only to have complaints and regret later on. Easily seen by just googling.
If the battery drains faster, they should have came up with a communication port in the selfie stick that holds an additional battery. This way it could charge while recording.

it seems like the run time is much longer with the X4, even with higher settings draining the battery, the run time is still imporved.

Great review, towards the end you said it can be paired with an Apple Watch for GPS data, is this actually correct as I can't see any reference to it in the manual
i didn't try it myself - but it's the same feature in their Ace Pro cameras, and Apple Watch and Garmin are mentioned
Hey, thanks for the video. A question. That invisible dive case that comes with the invisible dive bundle, is it different than the X3 invisible dive case, or are they interchangeable?
This isn’t the correct I’m afraid, the x4 is slightly taller and a little narrower so the x3 dive case is too small. Which is a pain but hey ho!

It comes with it, the plastic one not the premium one.
Yep comes with the standard (plastic) lens guard. I'd invest in the premium

In the HDR Photo setting of X4, I couldn't seem to find the adjustment for AEB (number of shots). There used to be a choice from 3 shots to 9 shots. Did Insta360 remove that feature in the X4?
Yes, no AEB as of yet, it may get added back on a firmware update

I've wanted a drone for quite a while. But didn't want to risk losing it, nor the limitations on where I could fly one. Starting to think one of these on a long stick is the ideal solution.
I have a DJI drone but the x3 with the 3m pole is an awesome alternative when you can’t use a drone etc. orders the x4 today!
was going to buy one of those. Insta360 may have made a huge mistake in sponsoring every single tech reviewer that I look at. As a matter of principle, I’m not going to buy a product if that company has paid every reviewer. Bummer.

My interest in 360 cameras began with an odd video in my feed. It was a guy, Max Wrist, that produces motorcycle videos. I was amazed at how he captured everything around him with a 360 camera. But I am puzzled as to how he slows to a freeze frame, reverses, speeds up the scene. Are these things that can be done in the Insta app, or is he using special editing software? Thank you.

I haven't tested them side by side, but while the 1-inch sensor is bigger, my impressions are that this will give you better image quality overall

If scuba diving is your thing don’t buy the X4. The X4 has a dive case preset which has 8K video. Today I wanted to try my new dive case during a snorkel. I was surprised that it stopped because of ‘over heating’. Or so it notified. Very frustrating for sure. I suspect this overheating problem will be ironed out in the X5.

By the way, if you ever consider giving away the Insta360 camera, I would be extremely grateful to have the chance to use it. I am an adventurous motorbike rider and it is my dream to capture my outdoor experiences with an Insta360 camera. With its 8K resolution, I would be able to capture more details in my shots and have more flexibility to crop the images to create more dynamic memories. I would truly appreciate having such an amazing piece of equipment. Thank you!
Does it still have the issue where if you record continously, it loses a few seconds of footage every half hour (as it saves one clip and starts the next)?

Why aren’t my images being saved to my iPhone album as 360 images after I chose export as 360? It’s just flat images doesn’t save with that 360 symbol and FB doesn’t support 360 images no more ?

Are those videos with 8k with hdr? Hdr on x3 was noisy AF. Never used it.
Not HDR. The only 'ActiveHDR' mode is limited to 5.7k30, but i don't tend to use that.

A lot of fisheye distortion but it’s nice to have H.265 and I wish I had it when I was in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Mexico. As I’ve learned that Video editing is easy enough.
u can easily fixx that in the post edit. i saw it in other review vids.

Why does everyone keep saying that battery improved, last longer? I mean, it's improvement for 5.7k, but not for 8k videos. With 8k option, i highly doubt that anyone will use 5.7k, why would they? Is 5.7k improved in quality compared to insta360 x3's 5.7k?
Something not covered in the video - RAW vs Exported video. The Insta360 app VASTLY reduces the quality of all Exported files, even at maximum bit-rate. I keep all my Raw Insta360 videos rather than exporting them because the Raw quality is great but as soon as it's exported the quality drops off a cliff

@@Thetechchap Tom, you seem like a cool guy but you are omitting some important drawbacks like the fact that Insta360 FORCES people to use mobile apps. Not only is this limiting but also bad for longevity of the product and privacy of users as those apps gobble up user data. Companies should be called out on this. Cheers!

Yep it has a mic, it’s okay if your close to It. But the nature of the camera is you use it further away, so I’d recommend a Bluetooth mic

Welcome to the wonderful world of marketing ;) I tried a GO3 and I accumulated problems with: Overheating, battery which drains, proprietary format, m... software, repeated bugs, disgusting image in low light, etc.. Their customer support? Boxed answers and a gift to calm you down ;) INSTA360, finished. Return to DJI
The most important thing is not addressed. The editing workflow. It's insane the latest version 5.0 studio only last month added in multiclip editing which is madness. Using premier pro with the gopro plugin is also a pain cos of how slow PP renders and processes the insta360 propriety files. I have about 500GB of X3 footage i hope maybe to edit by version 6.0 of the PC studio version. In 2026 maybe

They're new chip - has improved performance and algorithms that allow it them to record the more demanding 8K30/5.7K60 without overheating/perf issues
Damn, that lens flare is horrible and ruins everything, they could've been more careful with that.. that's actually a big deal breaker for me..
72MP photos are not new, the X3 could do this as well. Great to see that just like every other reviewer you didn't bother to check the actual settings that are available. Timelapse mode in 8K or 11K no longer has 0.2s, 0.5s or 1s settings which means the minimum acceleration is 60x FFS. And they also increased ( = worse) the minimum shutter speed in Auto mode so now the already-terrible low-light timelapses are even worse. 👍

What a shame Insta 360 X4 😂 SENSOR SIZE: 1/2'' (same size like low budget Samsung A34 from 2023) APERTURE F1.9 (worse at low light than F1.8 of Samsung A34) 😅

Buyer beware on all these videos - this is KZheadr influencer at its HIGHEST - the embargo has lifted - there are 50 videos out there about this "ACTION CAMERA" - and what NONE OF THEM TELL YOU - is that these lenses are DELICATE - like you WILL SCRATCH the lens in snow - or on a bike trail - or a dropping it on a table - and then - it will cost (at least it did on previous models) $99 to fix it - or all your footage will have a smudge from the scratch. Also - you have to write an email to them explaining it - then wait 4 weeks for a reply - then fill out a form and pay the $99 plus shipping - to CHINA - then - wait another 4 weeks - until you get our camera back.....ALL of these videos got a FREE camera - and then went snowboarding - and if they had to pay $500 for the camera - then another $99 if they dropped it in the snow - which WILL scratch it - they would not use it. The lens guards dont work - in fact I had one scratch my actual lens when the camera hit the ground while not even snowboarding - SLEDDING on a bunny hill! BUYER BEWARE! These are just commercials for free cameras given to influencers.
yep i scratched my lenses badly. DEFINITELY use a lens guard (i'd suggest the premium one as it's higher quality glass)

@firstsoldier4257 it's by design. There's no such thing as an indestructible lens. So they make cheap, replaceable guards to protect the lens. GoPro has theirs built in, so you can't replace it when it inevitably scratches or breaks
Don't need to pause to read anything .. if i have to do more than simply turn it on .. i'm not touching it . I had a DJI Pocket 2 (which I threw out) because it was too complex for me to understand (and I could not find anyone who would teach me) so I don't bother. I'll be dead soon anyway so who gives a fuck
