gave a completely new character to them. love the dish
Cheers.
You never fail to amaze. The correct diameter measurement is such an amazing life hack!
You are a creative and talented fabricator and I appreciate the many videos you put out for us.
Such a fantastic look. Might go for that over minilites when my Mk1 Escort ever hits the road again...
I used the same process with my 47 Ford back in the 70,s. Reversed the rims , using the auto to center the hoop. Not some fixture. Worked perfect. Been doing it that way since back in the 30,s I guess.
They look great and it also keeps some of the original character of the car, worth the extra work I reckon.
I like the fact that you don’t compromise and take the extra time to do things right.
Rostyles! Dad had them on his Mk1 cavalier and his Ascona. Fond memories of polishing the chrome hub caps with autosol as he washed the car as a kid. 👍🏻
Great work, but it's giving me an eye twitch that the valve hole isn't lined up with either a spoke or mid point between two.
i know Im asking randomly but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Conrad Xzavier instablaster =)
@Crosby Ethan Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Crosby Ethan It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy! Thank you so much you saved my account :D
@Conrad Xzavier You are welcome :)
‘Just wiggle it side to side until you know it’s tight’ 😂
It's funny how a lathe seems big enough when you first get it but they seem to shrink
well you will always get a project that is bigger than the lathe, saying that, some lathes you can remove a small part of the bed up by the chuck to turn larger diameters.
@@chrismechanic2000 i work in a machine shop, we call that "pulling the gap" and yes it can be a life saver sometimes....
Another difficult and complex task made to look easy. Wheel modification is an art and this project is excellent for how you break it down. and then execute it. Well done.
Time spent will be worth it in the long run. They will look good and something to be proud of. Ronnie.
Looks great, intelligent way of trueing them up..... I would have had to line up the valve stem hole the same on each wheel in line with a spoke..!
I have also seen them welded up and a new hole drilled on the flat part. Why, it was used on circuits and if you run off into the rough you never pull a valve out.
They look amazing, I've never heard of such a rim option being available, well done.
That was some excellent engineering and machining. Knowing what to do with something like that is stunning to me. I learned quite a bit here.
What a Wheely informative video.
Really interesting - I love that you've found a way to do these deeper-dish wheels in the "right" way to make them look better. The results will be worth it even though it took longer
I very much agree with you.
Once again, great work and beautiful welds.
My Cavalier had similar wheels but with an added stainless beauty ring ,looked very smart. This was the 80s trends change.
Love ya work Matty. Can't wait for the build & driving. Cheers Billy J.... Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia.
Matt, those widened Rostyle wheels are beautiful. They look like a genuine factory wheel and when nicely painted will be perfect 👌 Nice job.
Nice work Matt, cheers from New Zealand.
"We gonna need a bigger -boat- lathe" - syndrome. A classic.
Brilliant work mate !
Nice job on the wheels Matt, awesome! 😎
man those wheels look great and i'm glad you went this route. look forward to seeing them done and mounted!
Thanks 👍
I’d have loved a set on the back of my HSR back in the day they looked great
Another Awesome vid! Clever man! Love your work. And that fixture table is sweet!
The jig you made for the banded wheels is really impressive! The wheels look awesome 😎
I'm always im pressed with your skills. But I'm blown away at how true you got these rims! Fantastic and they look the goods too.
Top job Matt.
Great job Matt. Those turned out super nice 👍👍👍
Nice work 👍👍 I know there is loads of videos of banding wheels but I will like to see your gig in action
Those look amazing!
Great work as always.
Yes Matt! They are sick!!
Bloody excellent video as always, would have loved wheels done like this on my old Fords back in the day. The banded wheels I had were not well finished so you could see where they were banded. A very educational video, just 100% made sense, would utterly trust your work.
Nice to see you again. Mike
LOVE THE INTRO!!! And Capt'n Thunder-Clap. 👍👍👍
Wheels turned out awesome. Can't wait to see them on the car
they look great!
This was super interesting and enjoyable to watch
Intresting, old skool. Worth the time.
One man in shop. Nice work.
Nice work 👌🏻
So awesome!! keep up awesome work!!
with my big lathe I plunged in on the welds on mk2 golf wheels then spun them over so it added the foot print 40mm to the out side for a guy doing racing. I tapped it true on the big lathe and they ran spot on. nice job you did.
Good tip for measuring inside of the wheel. Thanks Matt! I did not know you could just buy barrels. I learn something new every time I watch your videos.
Nice choice squire 👍🏻
Excellent video, real quality job - got a cob on though, 'cos I want to see them finished and on the car now!!
Great job 👍
Lovely stuff 👍👍
Good job done there.
I think at some point, all car guys have thought about trying this. Great job. Those rims are awesome!
Proper job!
Amazing job. Thanks to show us. Best regards.
Great looking wheels budd!!😎👍👌🤙
Very nice, today's technology. Build wheels yourself at the offset you want! I dreamed of doing this back in the 80's, with my Pontiac and Oldsmobile rally wheels! No one did this then, where I lived.. looking at your nice rims, fatted out with lip is the very picture I had in my head back then!
Cool dishes we got now!!!👍
Looking great, always loved them on my motors back in the day
Fitted to my Cavalier, i used call them roe style my mate called them Ross style ,rostyle ,cant make up my mind.
@@raychambers3646 we called them Steely's, i used to paint the black inserts Red
Nice video Matt, another thing I didn't even know existed!
That is very cool!!
Nice video. Great level of precision. Mahalo for sharing! : ) 🐒
Brilliant idea! Nice work lad :-)
The wheels turned out awesome. Super fat stockys. Can't wait to see 'em powder coated.
In England there is a much larger car aftermarket parts supply than in the Netherlands. If only I had known about this option to widen rims before, I would have had fewer problems. Thanks for this information Matt!
Holly snap thats awesome
are u a certified welder matt? your skills are awesome!!!
nice work
They look fkn awesome Matt
Greate good work blessing from Puerto Rico.
Those wheels look the dogs danglies 👍 relatively new to the channel and looking forward to seeing the Vauxhall Chuvit all the way through the build, can’t wait.👍👍
They look awesome Matt, when you were doing the pcd on cad, did you use the “polar array” tool? If not it’s worth having a play with as it will draw you a pcd based on how many holes you want round the pcd and do it in 1 step 👍
Amazing work. You are so smart. Wish you were in Australia to help me out.
Great vid fella, now subscribed 👍🏻
Incorporating a dial indicator into that jig would go a long way to getting those as perpendicular and true as possible. Nice work mate.
An indicator with a magnetic mount for your fixture (or 2 if doing more than car). Like using the car hub if not constructing a fixture.
“You spent a lot of time on them wheels” but the result was well worth it. 👍🏻
Yeah I dig them! Will look smart as on the car
Thanks
They look so much better, I'm sure most people wouldn't notice that they were the standard wheel centres in different barrels. 👍Top work as normal.
Might not be necessary Matt but it makes great content and they look fantastic 👌
Bravo très beau travail comme d habitude ...!!!👍👍👍😉😉
Think I have them done on my cavalier coupe instead of the alloys looks awesome
This inspired me to go right out and buy some of those barrels. Had some stock steels for my spitfire kicking about that I intended on banding and this was the solution that I needed 🤙🏻
Hi Daniel, I was going to do the same with my spitfire. But my idea rather than banding was to make a wider Steely using two rims, cutting off a small amount of each rim, then welding them together to produce the widened rim (one weld instead of two on a banded rim) if that makes sense. But after seeing these barrels I now need to measure the spit wheels and see if they will work.
@@shauna260 as a little update to this, I’ve just returned the set of 7j barrels as they’re too wide to fit onto a spitfire, swapped out for a set of 6j’s and they’ll fit up fine. Although the centres are a little small for the bands I think I can make it work
Did you ever get this to work as I've just ordered a 6j to have a play and see
Brilliant use of available high quality stuff 👍just ONE thing... where do I get a hat/cap/headgear item like you are wearing? Considering the weather we've been experiencing of late, I wish I'd had one of those! Maybe you could attach a link to it on your channel page? Many thanks for another excellent video. Thoroughly entertaining and educational to boot! Cheers 🍻
Hi Matt, are you going to do any more of the diy weld dice. the listing has finished on Ebay
Sweet!
Nice one ! Great product no one seems to do 16in dia though ! Why's that I wonder ? Great video ! Keep it up !
Years ago when I banded a few sets of wheels, I couldn't believe how much variation there was in the standard rims. I found some rims weren't the same width the whole way around, they could be 1/4" wider at one spot than another. I mucked around a lot to try and get them as perfect as I could but like you say, a few wheel weights does the same thing.
Look great
Awesome 👍🏻👍🏾 yeah I had my rim's widened for my mark 1 escort, but in New Zealand we have to have them certified, but here it cost way more the steel rim 😞😞 I was going to do part of it myself To keep costs down also because you can get them chromed before assembling 😀👍🏻 they will be awesome , with low profile tyres 😀🤙🏼
Emperor Rostyle ! 😁👍🏻😎
Nice job👍, thats the best way to go if you want wider wheels. Banding wheels was a thing back in 70s and it got a bad reputation . But like most things, it depends on the quality of the work, and who's doing it.
Very nice
Neat wheel solution, didn't know you could just buy the barrels.👌
Me neither
You never know unless you ask. ;-)
very cool
This is what I was after years ago for my midget rostyles! Still up for ditching my minilites and having something like this. Seem to remember you recommending someone else to band them but this is way better!...Worth a chat? Hope you're good dude.
the dish make s all the difference!!
After lockdown a great raffle prize would be a day in the shop getting some welding/fab tuition. Could film it also so a double win win situation.
You can make smaller parts like coasters, pendants, keychains, rings, watch bezels, bracelets etc.
