Welding heat deformed them. Lower amperage would be a lot better. The Steelie is too thin.

@@charlestannehill7537 Also I would think only cutting and welding a small section at a time, the go to the opposite side, start again, and keep going side to side in a pattern may help. OR make a self contained jig weed to the back of the rim & to the center before any cutting is done.

instead of welding materal on "causing distortion" draw cool design and make a carboard template plasma/zip-cut materal out of existing steel wheel inwhich you did so i guess you conqard this expirment very nice work guys

you are always going to have issues with balance unless you cut and weld on opposite sides, cut one section out and weld in your pieces then rotate 180 degrees and do the same, repeat all the way around. that will keep the heat flex from throwing the hub off center

Just weld up a jig to hold both the rim and hub piece - you need it to do all 4 anyway. Then cut up the rim all at once - easier to clean up all surfaces. Welding it up "piece meal" didn't work out.

Im sure everyone has noticed one very common theme with these guys, they use a Grinder for almost EVERYTHING! They must have a 20m high pile of metal dust & used grinder blades out the back! I didnt even think you could use a grinder for half the things they do use one for! Many times I cant believe they arent using a Jigsaw instead, I mean they even cut straight lines in metal sheets with a grinder, crazy!

It will work, if u weld a thick steel circular plate like a wheel spacer inside and then weld the spokes carefully, could take measurements as all the spokes would be of equal size, then it should be balanced and work.

instead of welding materal on "causing distortion" draw cool design and make a carboard template plasma/zip-cut materal out of existing steel wheel inwhich you did so i guess you conqard this expirment very nice work guys
yeah plasma cutting the pattern would be so much easier. it would also be easier to keep everything straight.
I highly doubt there would be enough material left with this kind of design
or try welding one pattern then the oposite direction.....i do not know the technique termin....cross method?

I saw a car on the road that did that...picking up his kid at school..do you know that as he made a slow turn..two tires came off the ground. An old Impala. Trippy.
The tires had the diameter about the same as my hand truck. A wheel barrel..only 8" wide or so.
You need space for the brakes so you won't be able to go that small without changing that too.... Which no doubt they'd do haha

I would like to know how many of these DIY BBS are in daily use in Russia...
you are always going to have issues with balance unless you cut and weld on opposite sides, cut one section out and weld in your pieces then rotate 180 degrees and do the same, repeat all the way around. that will keep the heat flex from throwing the hub off center
Just weld up a jig to hold both the rim and hub piece - you need it to do all 4 anyway. Then cut up the rim all at once - easier to clean up all surfaces. Welding it up "piece meal" didn't work out.

They probably removed the sunroof for weight reduction and welded in a normal steel plate and didn't have any time to paint it.
Use a dremel for cleaning up and detailing the rest of the weld lumps ...

Im sure everyone has noticed one very common theme with these guys, they use a Grinder for almost EVERYTHING! They must have a 20m high pile of metal dust & used grinder blades out the back! I didnt even think you could use a grinder for half the things they do use one for! Many times I cant believe they arent using a Jigsaw instead, I mean they even cut straight lines in metal sheets with a grinder, crazy!

It will work, if u weld a thick steel circular plate like a wheel spacer inside and then weld the spokes carefully, could take measurements as all the spokes would be of equal size, then it should be balanced and work.

My compliments to your fab and welder, he does a great job with tools and materials at hand.
