Birds sometimes get drunk from eating rowan berries in the autumn. That's one of the main reasons birds around here crashes into windows, they might look like they're dying when it's not moving after the crash, but it's usually nothing to worry about. It's just chocked. When u put the bird into the aquarium the bird was jumping around in there... I'm happy it survived, probably thanks to the things from nature that u put in there. Small birds need to eat almost all the time to survive. I've read that after trying to help a small bird over here that crashed. I just watched the bird for a while and then it flew away.

Thanks for your kindness! I'm a bird rehabilitation center volunteer, and if you don't mind, I'll give you a couple of tips for the future. 1. These birds feed on small insects, which are found on the branches and leaves of mostly coniferous trees. Due to their incredibly small weight and fast metabolism, they are forced to constantly eat, otherwise they can die in a few hours. It is very lucky that you brought plants from nature to the bird, so he probably found food in them. 2. Also, the doctors of our center recommend not to force water the birds that hit the glass. With a concussion, this can cause additional cerebral edema and worsen the condition of the bird. It is enough to put a container of water next to the bird, or wet the food. UPD but I personally think in this case you have done it right: just offered water, so the bird drunk as many as wanted. Birds drink less water than mammals, and it might not be needed at all, but since little guy became more lively after water supply, - it was done for good. 3. If you notice that birds continue to crash into your windows (this happens especially often during spring and autumn migrations), you can hang bright ribbons moving in the wind on the windows - this will scare away the birds. Good luck!

It often happens that birds hit windows and are knocked out or just sitting there, panting. The best thing is to just let them be, if it is cold weather/snow you can pick it up and keep them warm in your hands, but cover them in your cupped hands, so that they are in the dark, that keeps them calmer, because they easily stressed seeing you, being dizzy and not being able to move.

That sound your cat made is unique to when cats see a bird. It’s an instinct for hunting as it tricks birds into thinking a chick is calling them. You can buy special stickers which you put on the outside of your windows to break up the reflection. The reason birds crash into windows is that they see the reflection of sky and trees and think they're flying into open space. Before I got my stickers (bird stickers from amazon), two birds crashed and were lying stunned on the ground. Both times, I picked the bird up (their beaks were open and their eyes closed but they could cling on to my hand) and after ten or fifteen minutes they regained their senses and flew off into a tree.

Well done, thank you!! They live on a delicate balance between survival and death. You did the right thing. In my own nurturing sessions of the same circumstance, I just shelter the afflicted bird outside, but in my loosely closed hands, like a little cave until their strength returns. They generally fly-off in good shape in about 15 minutes. The key is to protect them from the ambient temperature and any precipitation. Until they recover their senses from the concussion, they usually don't try to flee. The real threat to them during that time, is actually hypothermia.

This cat: hunting instinct for a bird. my mouser cat when she sees a mouse right in front of her: o-o She refuses to hunt anything lol. She lives a comfy life :D
That explains why my cat does that whenever she sees a bird
They pray to the gods so that their hunts may be succesful.

Good luck!
Thank you! V helpful.
Our school windows had stickers with the silhouettes of birds of prey to scare birds away.
@@karyoplasma yes, that can work too. But, based on my experience, not all homeowners are ready to seal part of the windows :) and sometimes birds get used to such stickers. I don’t know why such indifference is connected, but it happens.

I love birds so much. A while back I helped nurse a sparrow back to health and it still comes back to visit from time to time. Little guys got a spot on its beak so I know it’s the same one. I leave my window open most of the time when I’m in my room and it’ll just come and chill on the windowsill
That is so awesome, it comes back because it remembers that you helped it. That's so amazing that it chooses to fly to you, it really trusts you. :]
That's so cool!
I had a small bird (a Great tit) mom bringing her chicks to my balcony, searching for food. I gave them some small pieces of cheese which they liked, and they kept coming back, every morning at the same time to get some snacks. The following 2-3 years, she came back with new offspring, wanting to get them fed. If I did not open and came with food quickly enough, they all lined up, hovering by the window and pick at t it with their beaks, looking in. Fantastic!
Just so people are made aware, this is a Goldcrest. It's actually more alarming to find a Goldcrest that allows you so close, compared to many other garden birds.
Had most likely crashed into their window and stunned itself. That could have been released at the time it was put into the glass box. Was moving well enough at that point to go off by itself. Had to look after one for about 45 mins earlier this year that had also bumped into a window. Well done to OP for caring, though maybe put the cat in another room next time.
@@ianbeacham7704 agreed. He was lucky that the bird was alive. Never let a cat close to a bird.
Really, really glad to see the little guy fully recovered from his ordeal of flying into the window, so many birds loose their lives by not being able to see it, putting stickers or tape on the glass certainly helps

@G E T R E K T lol first smart comment I've seen I rescue birds and they do crash in windows quite alot and they be in shock because of the crash so they don't run or anything but after a day they recover unfortunately some get nerve damaged or paralysed
I have had birds crash into clean windows here on somewhat of a regular basis being so close to the woods. Unfortunately when this happened both times the bird did indeed die. Please stay safe and secure in your part of the world. You are in our prayers.
The bird may mistake reflections in the glass for open space beyond. Stickers on the glass may help avert this happening.
@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 yes this is the case. They are confused and believe they can fly straight through.
It was happening to me as well, but I found stickers that you can put on the windows and since then the birds have been safe.
Yes you can buy stick on cobwebs, this helps the birds not to crash into tge window
Same here. A dove crashed into my window and passed out. I took it to my local vet, but sadly passed away from its head injuries.
Huge respect for kitty for not doing anything to the bird!
Real.
4:00 Cats make this noise to attract birds. He clearly wanted to eat it, all the signs are there.
Yup! No offense to Slivki, but kitty really wanted that bird by the end of the video - when the bird was actually showing signs of being active again. The noise is known as "Cat chatter". Cat's chatter when they're on the hunt, or excited by something often just out of reach. The cat incantation was the kitties way of saying "I desire to hunt that thing".
@@GuilRosmer Didn't cats start meowing only because of humans because they tried to imitate babies? More that I think about it, cats are clever little buggers.
@@Darkctan Yea, it showed those signs. But it didn't straight up jump on it to hunt it down (which is difficult to be found in cats). Especially because I lost my sister (my cat) 3 days ago. She was the most well taught cat I had ever seen. Even my birds has become friends of him. She was poisoned by some insect, which might have been trying to get into the house, and was attacked by Tom (my cat). Still can't stop crying for her...

I cannot believe how lucky we are that such adorable, tiny, and ancient animals can be found in our backyard
Oh, is it? I thought it was best to have some striped ornament to the screens so to let them know that's not void. Oh well.
Yep. In Poland we call it the rule of 3 C. Because "quiet, warm and dark" means in polish language "cicho, ciepło i ciemno".
They can't see glass 🥂 🐦
@@pakistanpatriot9198 Oh? I thought they were just suicidal.
@@ropi8739 Or an even easier solution: curtains. Could be a bit easier, but it takes away the whole thing with having windows - constantly curtained windows, leaving your rooms dark. Walls and no windows is another option.
That sound your cat made is unique to when cats see a bird. It’s an instinct for hunting as it tricks birds into thinking a chick is calling them. But your cat is so calm; she’s probably doing it of instinct rather than habit. Didn’t seem like she was hunting. What you did for that bird is exemplary.
That is amazing. Thank you for loving and saving wildlife, as I do. A gorgeous little bird and I am so relieved that the cat did not get it and it flew off happily.

Oh how I love stories like this!! Had a similar experience myself, several years ago, with 3 baby birds. There is no greater heart-warming, than to see our little rescued wards, happily fly home!

Giving birds water directly to their beaks can be very dangerous for them because of how their breathing system works. They can drown from being fed manually. I'm glad birdie was ok and made a full recovery after their encounter with the window 🙂
