"Mind your own business and go stalk my wife!" is SUCH a good line
I think you mean, “And. Go. Stalk. My. Wife!!”
My thoughts exactly
I think out of all of Joel's friends Joel collabs with, Joel is my favorite.
who's Joel?
@@manso306 old shiny eyes
What about bridge guy?
Honestly at some ponit in the video I forget that all the characters are Joel 😅
Which one do you mean? Chief Joel, Chief's wife Joel, Rookie Joel, Keely Joel, or Midnight Marauder Joel?
The casting of this short film was incredible. Each actor brought his own unique set of skills. Brilliant.
I was the casting director so thanks. Behind the scenes these guys couldn't get along at all, got in wild fights as soon as they saw each other. The set was haunted, too. All the mirrors on set were smashed at some point or another. 🤷 That's showbiz for ya.
I know
Hes right i was the mirrors
I'm SO GLAD that film noir Joel is back!
I second this
Wtf the dialogue is so jarring and hilarious
Need animation Joel back
@@FreedomFighterAsuka He literally did one two weeks ago
Of course, film noir Joel is black, that’s only logical… Oh wait. Delete this.
A beautiful story of loss, cuckolding, dog rapists and threesomes. Great work as per usual Joel.
All my favorite themes
@@YourCapybaraAmigo_17yrsago What more could you ask for
Not to mention he’s wearing a fedora
Someone who knows nothing about the Internet would love this comment.
@@DoABarrelRol1l not a darn thing
"I love you chief's wife!" Such romantic dialogue 😂
It’s not even “Chief’s wife,” but only “Chief wife,” which makes it even weirder. 🤣
You do such an incredible job at subverting expectations while playing on and into narrative convention. You're an artist Joel.
Seeing how he's cloned himself, revived himself and rotoscoped himself, he's likely a wizard too.
ooh big words
an arteest
@Lewis Gorrod The biggest word in that sentence is "Expectations" You do know that word, right? Right Rookie?
"Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words? He thinks I don’t know the ten-dollar words. I know them all right. But there are older and simpler and better words, and those are the ones I use." - Ernest Hemingway
Joel's detective noirs have to be some of my favorite films of his, all criminally under-viewed but i just can't get enough of what he does with this style. As a starting film-maker (and Massachusetts raised person) I always find what he does so inspiring. Big thanks Joel.
Happy you enjoy them, I love making them! Best of luck on your filmmaking journey my fellow Massachusetts kin!
Joel’s from Mass too!? Dope!
@@Joel-HaverPlease, please, please make a full length noir comedy
"Mind your own business and GO. STALK. MY. WIFE."
Oh man I love the old timey ones. Still holding out for a momma's beans sequel
Me too!
Same!
Good God yes please
The old timey style fits so well with Joel's impro/writing style.
I’m still holding out for shit sniffer 2 from Joel
See, THIS is why Joel's videos are so relatable. If I had a dime for every time this happened to me, well... hoo boy.
I actually did find a dime every time this happened to me.
@@elio7610 Damnit rookie we need you to stop finding dimes and get back to stalking my wife!
Of all the injustices ever in the history of the universe, the way The Rookie is treated has to be the worst of them.
I actually for real get so upset by these, this one I almost regret watching. Don't think anything triggers me as much!
truly a Noire
and the fact that joel is the one who crafted this whole experience for us to watch? Bro.
I thought he was going to be on the date with the police chief's wife.
First thing I thought of too!
I thought the reason the other detective couldn’t find the killer was because he was the one sleeping with the chief’s wife.
@@davidsettles2315 I think Joel wanted us to think both of these things, but they were red herrings
I thought the chief's wife was the killer.
@@davidsettles2315 And he was!
The audio and filter work is actually phenomenal.
Fun fact: Joel doesn't know how to do any of that stuff you just said. He simply restored a film camera from the 1940's and used that instead.
@@himanbam I highly doubt your aforementioned statement.
Joel's acting is excellent, all 5 of the characters act completely differently. Has so much range, seriously the most overpaid famous hollywood actors in the world aren't better than him
According to google, Dwayne Johnson it's one of the most paid actor in Hollywood, so I agree with you on that.
@@voxer3060 a lot of people don't know this, but The Rock makes most of his money from his gay porn videos, in which he is known as Drain the Cock Johnson
Its sad to say, but we often forget we live in a very superficial society, the most shallow society humans have ever created. Sounds harsh, but I'm not saying we are all evil. we just care more about ourselves and appearances than ever before in all of history. Joel would never be a big Hollywood star because he doesn't look like one. he doesn't have perfect teeth, cheek bones, facial symmetry, etc.. we don't value actors who aren't perfect looking in our society, as much as we like to think we do
This is perhaps the best old-timey one you've done. A true masterpiece from start to finish.
Glad they found actual footage of what it was like to be detective in the 1920s
Joel you know what you have to do. You have to make a full-length movie in this style. It is your destiny. For real though this is hilarious
Yes.
Joel Haver is an incredible font of comedic sketches. Amazing how he pumps these out.
Just like the rookie pumps one out to all those dogs am I right?
It's absolutely nuts how engaging that was. The captain was my favourite he was such a good and consistent character.
She must have met him in Tahiti. Nobody checks Tahiti.
"It's a magical place"
Dutch?
I'll tell you who will check Tahiti, Dutch Vanderbilt he loves tahiti and just needs one more big score to get there
Joel you really nailed the Chief lol 😂I can see you trying not to break character
Pretty sure it was Keeley nailing the chief last night. 😵
"He seems oddly familya..." they're all Joel 😂
Acting too good that I even forgot that they're literally all Joel.
"You need to find who- or what she's sleeping with" curious what the chief knows here that we don't.
A 'hold up, sir' moment if there every was one.
Joooooel I was the weirdo who passed you on his bike and shouted "I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS" this past Tuesday. Thanks for wishing me a safe ride!
It was great to see you Paul! Happy to hear you’re in one piece! Ride on my friend :)
Joel Haver is a tremendous voice, a leader of his generation, filled with depth and intrigue, like the boss's wife was last night.
The Chief was depth, and Keeley was intrigue.
The chiefs thousand yard malaise stare while he's berating the rookie kills me. Great work as always.
Every single one of these makes me want to make more short films
Emperor voice: Do it!
Man, this feels like one of those classic sketches that’s just so good you can’t even appreciate it fully until you let it simmer and rewatch it. I loved the pacing and story direction and especially the diverse cast
Chief was 11/10 character, Joel you’re really puttin on a show with these skits
Well said!
This was fantastic Joel! I haven't had such a good laugh in a while!
Thanks Zaid! Happy to make you laugh :)
The best part about a mystery where all the characters are played by the same person is you can never guess the ending ahead of time 😂 I was sure the dude in the glasses was the chief in disguise going to meet with his wife
What are you talking about, the dude in the glasses looked nothing like the police chief!
The chief was actually really well acted. Definitely came into his own as a character
“Last way I wanted to spend my Friday night was trapped in a closet with a dog rapist” I love you joel
But it’s only the LAST way. He didn’t say he wouldn’t want it at all.
This guy is a serious genius. History will prove that he is a great artist.
I always feel so bad for rookie… until I remember that Joel is playing all the parts.
I still do :P
True.. if there are 5 Joels, I suppose it’s most rational to sacrifice 1 Joel if it makes the other 4 happy.
the ending made me deeply uncomfortable
9:40 it's probably because the midnight marauder got a bit long in the teeth
Joel, I’ve been watching you for a long time now. You creating what you what you love to make and finding success is insanely inspiring. Never stop being you man.
Thanks for all ya do! I needed this video today, it’s been a rough time lately!
Thanks for the support Isaac, sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time. More times than not there’s some good waiting around the corner my friend!
I adore the semi-improv feel of this. I had no idea where it was going but was hooked nonetheless - a difficult Feat but definitely one Joel is a master at
Joel playing all 5 roles was impressive, must've been a pain to edit everything together & deliver the lines with the right feelings.
Man the casting behind this film is insane. How can Joel afford so many amazing actors. Those sponsorships really coming in clutch because he paid for quality actors!! ❤
Technically Rookie solved two cases, he found the murderer and the other guy sleeping with the chief's wiife.
And he's still a loser.
Hola Senor Haver. I'll make this brief but I just wanted to say that bc of you I'm making a short film for the first time with my summer. Scripted, of course, lmao. You see I wasn't really the biggest fan of you at first. I love writing, particularly screenwriting. It's my favorite part of the filmmaking process and the heart of most movies imo and your dismissal of it as a slog or something holding people back was a little disheartening for me, so I put off watching your vids in my recommended for a long, long time. It was when I finally gave you a chance did I realize that you were one of the most encouraging, inspiring human beings I've seen on my 15 years on Earth. And after going through your older videos (particularly "You Are Already A Filmmaker") I got the courage to pump out a script in a week and get a crew of my most loyal friends. Filming begins next Thursday. The movie's a love letter to low budget filmmaking so it's got a ton of references to you and other talented people who aren't in Hollywood. Just wanted to thank you. Dk if you'll read this, since you get a lot of these comments but you might have maybe kinda possibly legitimately changed my life. Idk if this will even work out in the end but it sure as hell is worth a try.
"He's got that dog in him, and not the kind the rookie likes" fucking sent me
I love the slow melt and then sudden spiral of this piece into utter chaos. Did not see that ending coming!
I think my favorite part is the end where everything is so loud and the music swells (heh) up and everything cuts. It's amazing.
I cried when he said ‘it’s a real store and your dick’s tiny’ truly a heartwarming film
I love this old timey black and white style. I’d love to watch more videos like this :)
Well, watch his old videos, he made several like this.
truly one of the classics! i remember the first time i saw this flick as a young boy, it answered many questions…and raised some new ones!
Thank you for remastering this amazing noir film! I remember watching this in 56’, good times, better times.
Man I love Joel's film noir videos... doesn't do them nearly often enough!
so happy to see this classic series return Me and my old man bonded over his recorded tapes of this golden nugget... It makes me think of simpler times.
Joel has been on an absolute tear since he stepped on that landmine. He oughta keep a few around in case of artist's block.
I love the chaotic, loud, shouting energy. Exactly what old timesovies feel like now, everyone is shouting and no one is competent
Ferengi Rules of Acquisition 112 and 113: Never sleep with the boss's sister, always sleep with the boss
I think the internet has made me weird. My first thought was "Chief was in disguise and making his rookie spy on he and his wife's sexcapades because they get off on people watching" Then I just got lost in Joel's black & white eyes and flowing hair. Joel would make peak wife material ♥ Edit: Internet DID make me weird, and that is exactly where it went. Fucking priceless, well done cucking us all, Joel!
I don’t believe you at all. No way you guessed that
My first guess was that the date Rookie missed to spy on the Chief's Wife was in fact with the Chief's Wife.
No I wasn't cucked she is not my wife!!
4:30 like how Rookie doesn't even deny the store's existence.
That ending was masterfully done. Subbed
What the fuck man 😭😭😭 I'm laughing way too hard I feel like you're just presenting a genre with a totally straight face and somehow it's funny 😭😭😭
Just wanna say Joel as far as short films / skits you are easily my favorite youtuber! Very inspiring
It's astounding how quickly Joel puts out high quality content. Keep it up man!
"I love you, Chief Wife" I don't know what's better, that he calls his wife Chief Wife, or that he does it during passionate lovemaking
"Chief, you got that dog in you"
keely is such a spectacularly hateable character!
Love these retro style sketches, I think you could nail making a sketch with an 80's VHS style!
the light on your face to show a car was passing is a nice touch
"I love you chief's Wife" - The Chief 😂😂
I didn't necessarily laugh but this was VERY impressive to me, you definitely have a talent for story telling and acting - I saw your community post about these videos not being watched enough, they definitely deserve more views - great stuff.
I love Joels videos because they're all different, one day you're watching something old timey, the next its an animation, the next its a skit. Keeps things fresh. Most KZheadrs are a one trick pony
This is a subtle thing, but I love the consistency of the eye lines in the shots.
The best part about these old film skits is the way the audio sounds
this one stayed classy all the way through
I read this just as "you have a small dick" was said haha
Didn't even have notifications on. Nice timing. :3
Thank you for that highlight post! I love this small trend lately of artists like you and hydraulic beanbag highlighting their favorite creations. I want that kind of feel from my favorite creators, i dont wanna just end up seeing you all as meme generators
This was just superb, one of your best yet!
this is a masterpiece holy shit
my neighbours fuck loud af i wish i was joking
"What are you doing out here other than diddling kids and raping dogs" jesus christ joel 😂😂😂
Yes! I think these are some of my fav Joel videos, so happy to see a new one!
I’m so glad you’re still doing these. You’re one of my favorite artists.
I need you all for a personal matter... to like this video to approve this great work.
My first video of Joel's was how every woman talk to men they just met in old movies. I love the variety of films and sketches Joel creates. Officially my favorite KZhead channel now :) P.S. maybe stop filming and uploading your videos from Tahiti, and more people will see it. No one checks Tahiti ;)
True story. Happened to an uncle's friend of mine.
Poor Rookie just surrounded by insane coworkers.
The chief’s eyes are actually scaring me!
its me im sleeping with the chiefs wife
It was me Barry.
I love the creativity you bring. These shorts are filled to the brim with passion. Thank you for the quality content Joel.
love the over the top use of “oldie” metaphors and examples
These videos bring me so much joy. Especially the part when the chief says "Oooh I loved it Keely! It was a FAAANTASTIC THREESOME!", as the music begins the swell. 9:19 Thank you Joel!
I wanna see Joel play ‘Murphy Law’ if they ever make an SCP show. Specifically the first article Murphy is featured in. He could nail the role, I can feel it.
That would be perfect. An SCP show leaning into dark humor would be awesome. An SCP show would also be able to last forever.
@@phillemon7664 if you think the first time ‘Murphy Law’ is featured is dark humor, you should really go read it. The latest Murphy Law story is a tiny bit dark, but that’s part of the character progression.
Please make more of these, you can see how much fun you have with them!
Always love your solo projects Joel. Enjoy your own company bro! 🤙🏼
I like these more than the animations don’t tell anyone
Your secret is safe with me
and me
What’s this scene from? Is it from a Hitchcuck film? I’m pretty sure this was a Hitchcuck film..
These are my favorite, the old timey ones are what got me into your channel! This one was filth, well done. 💚
It feels like improv theater with yourself and Im absoluteley here for it
Personally not a fan of this one, not my type of humor, but I can appreciate the dedication nonetheless, keep making great stuff Joel 👍
yeah, this one fell flat for me as well, but props to Joel for all the work and production that went into it!
I so desperately want Rookie to be respected. How tragic that he's now a cuck and can never be respected.
The "Reliable Information Store" is possibly the best comeback I've ever heard
I love how you play all the characters. And timing is everything.
