  • Fun fact, freckles are apparently considered a cosmetic flaw in many East Asian cultures. I was a little confused why a side character in this movie had a throwaway line about how Bell was pretty in spite of her freckles. With that piece of context I now understand that the freckles becoming a part of her iconic look was supposed to be a bit counter-culture.

    • This is true, i taught english in Asia and was teaching kids words for how we describe people (showing pictures of people with blonde hair, muscular or curvy bodies, wrinkles, etc). I brought up a photo of a fiery redhead with freckles all over her face and they reacted like it was a disease -- i stopped and told them that this is normal and some people find freckles really beautiful!

    • It's will written tho, but many dislikes it for being far from what they expected. Many thought it will be a romantic thingky which is not bc the anime didn't focus on lovestory but on obstacles that the main character experience. TBH I got confused so much bc it though it's gonna be like "Beauty and beast" but it's not. They just get the main idea and totally changed the whole plot and setting and that's what makes it unique ✨. But this anime has so many messages and portrays real life obstacles ; like the app, people uses it to escape reality; the Child Abuse which is a message to Japan bc they neglected that issue; and belle for having longtime sadness, depression, trauma bc she lost her mother and the reason she give up her talent and keeping away her dad and childhood friend bc she thought it's for the best . She lost half her childhood and to become unhappy bc of sorrows.

    @Lilitha11@Lilitha112 жыл бұрын
    • For me it actually fell VERY flat in the real-world segments, to the point where at a few sections I actually checked my watch to see where we were on runtime, which I normally never do. The virtual sequences though I was too visually captivated to overthink it, aside from the Justice guy, he did pull me out of the immersion pretty much every time he was on screen. That said, the music is simply beautiful, during a couple of these songs I felt the emotions very strongly. Lalalai lalalai When our heartbeats collide I won't mind, in a place we've never been before I'm reaching out for the moon and stars beyond it Lalalai lalalai Is it you I will find? Though I feel left behind sometimes when you close the door We didn't waste our time here it's now or never (Gales of Song) But not that you've gone I have to move on Seems like everyone Just smile staring at the sun But what about me? Tell me how I will know where I should go? Oh gales, you sing and guide me! I walk alone There's more to life I have to know It's just me, lost so far away from home Alone I shut myself in Still the winds howl, they call And their voices lead me Fales of song, guide me through the storm Let the melody life me high, I'll be me [Lend Me Your Voice] It's easy to push me away from you It isn't hard, yes I know that's what you'll say It's what you have told yourself over and over again In darkness You try to hold back all the thoughts Lend me your voice Let me see your face Let me start to show you what I see Bring me close Let me come and sit by the fire Just let me come close to your heart (A Million Miles Away) Light glimmers in a flower Like jewels in a dream The sky breathes life Love to everything Come back to me, and stay by my side I feel my heart shake Come, ease this ache I'm standing over here, reaching for you A million miles away Come back and stay Sing, let your heart soar! Sing forever! Sad and so happy! Feelings flow over, now Our world is full of all kinds of colors Closing my eyes I still can see the stars Shine in the sky, sing their harmony Flowers, they're blooming Oh it's beautiful Sing this song, I won't stop now Sing it through, I love you The voice carries on

  • I too have lost someone and something, and felt all of Suzu’s anxiety attacks very relatable. The way anxiety can build up and hit out of nowhere. The way it can manifest into loss of voice, stomachaches/vomiting, or simply “crying all the time”. How everyone secretly wants to be the center of attention at all times; but when we are truly raw and vulnerable, the vultures swoop in and nitpick. I think this movie shows mental health in a beautiful manner. I love how it wasn’t a classic princess love story and how the filmmakers made it in touch with today’s age of social media and virtual reality. I hope everyone knows that they are loved and valued and respected and supported even with all their “flaws” or past mistakes. Go watch Belle. 10/10 movie~

Since she was a huge part of my growing-up formation, the first part thoroughly makes me wish those things to happen, and hits me harder than ever even after watching this movie months ago. Even so, the second part truly makes me picture how she culminated her journey with her lessons on seeing the bright side and carrying on since it's what matters at the end of the day. I'll miss her so much, and this song besides of being one of the best I've ever listened to, brings back my granny by making me remember her sheer passion of live-in. In addition, I will always recommend this movie since it's personally one of the most underrated, and even though the movie can be clumsy on the writing side, its wholeheartedly passion to make art that can be felt, is what personally stands out the most at the end of the day.

The music is far and away some of the best I've heard in a long time. Unfortunately, there's just too many rushed plot points with unsatisfying conclusions (or lack thereof) tied together by poorly placed scenes that do little to build the world. The open endings just are weird and unsatisfying BUT for kids... they play their own endings of the movie with their dolls. It leaves open for so much more fantasy of our own. I find japanese movies more realistic. You don't always become the big well known saviour to everybody. Sometimes only a few know what you did. Not everybody "blooms" which makes it much easier for me to get into that character too. Most scenes are just foreshadowing what is to come but in a time delayed matter so you vaguely remember smth and at the end of the movie it all makes sense. While Disney is a questionable company (I will be the first in the queue to admit that), what's not questionable is the talent of the people singing in their movies. Also, people often say the exact same thing about Japanese anime that you are saying to complain about Disney. • the animation of this movie is truly outstanding, I don't think I can say so for the story though. It wasn't bad, but some things just didn't make sense it felt kind of rushed. For example, I felt like the film should have told more about Suzu's life and story other then focus more on "Belle" and the "Beast". The child abuse part was just out of nowhere, and I thought it was going to be a love story between the two for how they made it seem, but in reality the beast was just some kid with his brother. I wished the beast was Shinobu, so at least it would make a bit more sense on how Shinobu suddenly found out Suzu was Belle, and they could have possibly ended up together but lol, in the end it wasn't a terrible film the story could have been better though. (This is just my opinion, please no hate I do not speak for everyone.)

    • I partially agree, the child abuse kinda fit the "irl" theme of overcoming trauma, but could've been done better. Personally, I didn't feel like it was resolved. The older brother (whose name I forgot) said no matter what was said or done to the dad nothing ever changed and they never showed any resolution to the abuse. I would've liked the story to be more romance centered, but being different isn't inherently bad, but the execution of it could've been better.

About, a girl who is suffering from some kind of grief stricken depression and goes to the digital world to find some kind of outlet and ends up befriending someone else who kind of understands what she needs or how she feels. And there's this motif about a gale song that comes back constantly and changes eventually finding its resolution and she finds piece with herself.

  • It is so incredibly difficult to translate lyrics, have them make sense, and carry the same tonality... but I think they do a pretty decent job. Very interesting to hear the stylistic changes in singers, you can definitely hear where Kylie McNeil chooses to use a head-chest mix in parts where the original singer flips entirely to head voice. You can hear it at 4:39 on sing, def think Kylie is using a mix here where the original singer is in head voice. Other singers, what do you think? Am I talking crazy?

    • I'm no singer, but I'm close to a few, married into a musician family, and I'm listening to these differences myself. I've been trying to pick a favorite version of these songs between Kylie and Kaho, specifically to decide which version to see in theaters in a few weeks, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which versions carry the most weight because each singer's interpretation and performance is so close and yet so unique to her. I may see both, but trying to decide where to start!

    • @Jablink The IMAX near me is only screening the Japanese version with subtitles, so that's the version we're going with. Truly, it was Kaho's renditions of 心のそばに and はなればなれの君へ that sealed the deal for me. I look forward to seeing the English and French versions as well since I'm fortunate enough to mostly speak those languages too (the French hasn't been used in a decade so it's incredibly rusty... on the list to fix soon, and I truly think this movie will help!). Anyway, I really lucked out with the translations for this movie since I speak at least a little of all of them, so I look forward to comparing all of them once I'm done. Bonus that I get to work on those languages at the same time.

    • Translating songs and having them still work is soooo hard! I hear what you're saying about 4:39, tone wise I think I hear Kylie keeping a lot of the sound in her chest, compared to how she sings the final note in the song. I still prefer the tone of Kaho Nakamura (Japanese voice actress) but for an American audience Kylie's voice actually works better in my opinion.
