Yup I thought it was more useful than just a party trick, you can shoot at some difficult angles too, pretty cool.
You could use as a spy camera or stalking camera also. Lots of uses. That's what he meant with party trick
That or panorama shots.
I think it's pretty useful... have you ever tried to put your phone somewhere for taking a self timed photo of your family or a group of people? It's rly difficult to get the right angle with your normal smartphone rear or front camera. With this you can just lay it on the ground (maybe a stone or something) and put the camera in the right angle.
Have you ever looked for something under a couch? this would make that so much easier
Honestly I love that companies like LG and Asus are around to try the wacky stuff. They are the true innovators and I wish they got more love for it.
except LG stopped putting removable batteries in their phones, and went to near permanently affixed batteries in the G8... On my V20, i can swap the forehead, chin, back cover and battery, and have a cosmetically and functionally new phone, in a completely different colour. no glue, just screws. my G8, is the same as any other modern smartphone, except with a headphone jack and an allegedly better DAC...
And if you buy a Phone from LG you will need a lawyer to get warranty.

I'm a happy owner of a Zenfone 6 and I can tell you this thing does everything good. It may not be top 1 in many aspects, but it's strong in everyone of them. I've had it for a year and a half now and it's performing as day 1, including battery and camera. The battery still lasts a whole day eaaasy, 2 whole days without intensive use. The only thing I'm disappointed on version 7 is the lack of headphone jack.

1:27 "Who includes two cases in their box?" *Meanwhile Motorola including up to 5*
One plus
Cameras w a moving/flip out screen can be super helpful to compose creative shots. This phone has the same thing just the cam moves. For low/how shots this is so much better than laying down or breaking your neck for a shot.
This party trick? I'd love to have that if i'm taking group selfie with timer. You can just lay your phone on the edge of the table or sth and voila! With normal phones it's awful - half of the time you need to have some kind of engineering background to create a whole construction with bottle, backpack or something else just to properly hold a phone and be able to preview your shot on its screen. Great!
@Apporv Space If zenfone 7 pro has 3,5mm jack i think ROG 3 will lose on the market, they dont make product to kill each other 😅

@@bartotte3578 I mean, my family usually uses an actual camera with an actual 3-point stand at home for special occasions. Proper quality photography. This system does solve a problem but its the perfect example of a first world problem. But even if you were somewhere outside of home, it's pretty weird. If you're on a road trip, going camping or at a party, why would you want to put the phone somewhere on a rock or table and make it look like a staged college photo or weird professional family picture? Just for me personally it would look and feel silly, a normal selfie cam where I hold the phone is fine for me and it adds a flair of honesty and spontaneous-ness. Those features for charge management sound awesome. I've been manually limiting (for the most part) my battery between 40% and 80%. Having that managed automatically would be nice. Not starting the day with my full 80% is sometimes annoying.
To be fair I've used cellphone for years now and I don't remember a single time where I needed to shake my phone like this 🤔😆
Arthur C. A spontaneous sprint with your phone in hand, maybe
I also think that is really not that much of an issue. However, tbf, I went skiing with my ZenFone 6 once and.... Well the camera flipped open a bit (saw it at the end of the day). But... Why would it matter? Force-opening the camera does not hurt the phone and usually it does not happen at all.
Only thing similar is when I had to shake my phone in an 8 symbol to calibrate the gps or something like that back in the day.
Remember shake to undo, that might be coming back 😁
Motorola phones use gesture controls as shortcuts for common functions, such as shaking the phone twice to the side to turn on the flashlight. It's very useful when you're wearing gloves or your hands are dirty or wet and you don't want to get it dirty, too.
I really like those battery settings, would like to see that on other phones
Soooo much ! Even my Lenovo laptop has the charge limiter, really helpful ! (Even compatible with linux !!🤤🤤🤤)
Sony Xperia 1 II (I know, terrible name) has it and even completely disable charging when plugged in (when gaming)

This review is spot-on. I have a Zenfone 6, and while it's not a world-beater in any one regard, it's just so incredibly well-rounded that it's tough to beat, or justify replacing. Solid camera? Great Battery life? Nice screen? Solid speakers? Check, check, check, and check. It looks like the Zenfone 7 takes this formula and ups the overall game which makes it a very compelling package.

Now I actually really like the inclusion of that "kill switch" on the case. I often have the problem that my OnePlus 7 pros camera extends when it's in my pocket and I'm kinda scared that it breaks of if I sit down. Oh and that slow moving camera is for panoramas, so you don't need a steady hand.
so you put it on it's side and it slowly opens registerint full 180 degrees panorama? Nooice
I actually have a ZenFone 6, and I love it. I never take selflies, but the flip camera is great for taking pictures in hard to see areas, or being better able to see the screen while taking pictures at different angles. I love it, and I don't really notice the camera flapping around. Occasionally it will flap a little, but not much; and I can make it stick back in place by just opening the camera, moving it a little and then closing the app. Thinking about getting the ZenFone 7, but my 6 is still going strong so I may just save my money

Could be emberrasing if it "flips in your pocket" and everyone thinks you are a perv :/
honestly i am confused why they didn't do that. maybe it cost too much extra. Any small pin that would move into a recess in the camera box would have made it impossible for the thing to shake at all.
demolitionGoat a small part like that would have been prone to break and even worse could even obstruct the mechanism or in best case scenario leave a permanent noise when shaking the phone so I suppose for the sake (no pun intended) of durability they discard that option
@@Pro720HyperMaster720 I am pretty sure it's not the durability that's the issue. a small pin made of a magnet that sits in a recess with a spool behind it is all it would take to create a pin lock on that. That is 100% waterproof and has basically no chance of moving out of place or even just rattling if its machined well enough. It's gonna cost a pretty penny to create the flush fit recess in the phone shell and the spool though on top of taking up valuable space in the phone.
It becomes another moving part to fail. Much better to toss that bad boi in a case so that it's replaceable and doesn't risk becoming a loose part inside the phone
By angling the camera you could place it on a table set with timer to take a photo. I cant count how many times my family had to set an impromptu stand to lean the phone just to take a picture with the whole family.
I love the look of zenfone phones. Not so long ago i rocked a zenfone 3max which was gorgeous
Linus: Moves camera flip with volume rocker Me: OMG that's so nifty! I could take pictures at awkward angles without having to look at my screen from an awkward angle or standing all awkwardly! Linus: What's the use of this?! Party trick?! Me: :/
well, you can take booty pics in public while being really lowkey lmao
@@AloneGamesRo While yes that is an option, its more useful as a "digital mirror" in awkward spaces, not awkward hobbies
Booty pics for the win.
Or taking photos inside engine bays/other mechanical areas for diagnosis.
@@morosis82 That was my thought exactly . I definitely stick my phone into awkward places and take pictures to look for problems that I can't easily see. It would be perfect if the led flash was on the flip too.
6:10 You can take secret (creepy) photos/videos of things while appearing to just be looking at your phone - instead of holding it up and pointing it at someone/something.
I have taken videos of my friends when they were drunk using it.😂😂
Yeah but the camera would be a protrusion and pointed towards the things
you can check if there is anything under your bed or car. with a mirror you can take photo of your back.
@@jameszhang6974 : A lot less conspicuous than pointing the whole phone at something/someone.
Would be so handy ehh?
My Galaxy S10e has the fingerprint sensor in the power button and I love it
My Razer Phone did the fingerprint sensor on the side. I just upgraded to an S20 ultra and I'm hating it on the screen, I wish more phones did it on the button.
If I was the kinda guy to spend $950 on a phone I would 100% buy this solely for the lack of notch or hole punch display, that shit needs to stop.
hole punch gae
The non pro only costs $750.
Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro, should be ~$450. Pop up selfie camera, SD865 and all that jazz, and their last year's Mi 9T should be closer to $300. The 9T also features a pop-up front camera, 6GB/128GB, FP scanner under the screen, 48Mpx Sony camera etc, but comes with a SD730 (there was also the Pro version, but it has been replaced by the aforementioned K30 Pro). The Mi 10T is supposed to come out this month, though, globally, at ~$299 for the base model, whatever it is. I'm not sure if it's retaining the design, but it's worth waiting for the reveal to find out if you're into notchless, holeless screens on a reasonable budget. BTW, I have the 9T and like it quite a bit. :)
6:16 can you use the camera as an inbuild kickstand?
I am pretty sure that’s a very useful usecase
No because as you saw in the video it automatically goes back to flip down or flip up position if you try moving it from that position. So if you tried setting it in a position and it moves around, it is going to try adjusting.
@@MinecraftLD10 but you can set it up at any angle using the volume rocker and it seemed to stay in those positions. so it is capable of standing in more than the two positions "selfi" and "normal".
Monking Flame Well I guess the test we didn’t get is it being set camera side down while it’s facing top side down so that it props up the phone. Then that would tell if it could handle the weight or not.
i think as soon as you close the camera app the camera will go back to its default position
I can definitely see that party trick being useful when you need to get very difficult angles or interesting angles for when you are taking a photo with straining your body.
Watching this on my ZenFone 5z 128 GB variant. Still my daily driver running Android 10 with July security patch (official) and I am still happy with it.
6:16 you can mount it on a tripod to take pictures of the night sky and watch the preview in a comfortable position
12:43 while it's not as impressive as Apple's update lifecycle, still a major credits to ASUS. I've been having monthly security patches since I purchased the phone. They *did* promise at the event of the Zenfone 6 that they'd offer 2 years of major updates and a third year of security patches. I imagine this will be the same for the Zenfone 7
I love the camera and find it very useful. The main thing i use the selfie camera for is to look into hard to see places. This is perfect as a periscope. Hope more implement this design.
That color is sick, I could see a crazy custom hyper car in that color.
The original title was “ASUS just SHOCKED me”
Waiting for it to be changed now
It still is
Still is.
@Skull Reaper they do it to see what type of title is more engaging than the other maybe
still is
7:47 "ASUS broke the mold" Did they really? My Xperia phone from 2017 had the fingerprint sensor in the lock button.
that just implies its not very common. Does not say anything about them being first
They are just ignoring Sony phone
They are saying Sony naming system is not good
i think he meant asus has done it the first time the zenfone lineup.
i can see the volume moving camera thing an amazing way of taking panoramic photos
I saw that camera array and the first thing I could think of was they should bend it at 90° for a built-in cell phone stand for when you're watching movies and stuff
ASUS absolutely smashing in in the hardware department lately, especially with laptops and now phones
Asus always makes good phones. Actually the best phones that I know of. Apple is popular but that doesn't make it a good phone cus Samsung is popular and they are stair garbage
This would be definitely my go to device if I would want to upgrade from my Note 9. It could've been perfect if it had a headphone jack tho.
I was like you and I still have a headphone jack but.. Since I bought cheap (and great) 30 $ wireless earbuds, I never use it now. I would maybe need a cheap wireless microphone though
but s pen!
Honestly same here! I have a note 9 and the 20 ultra just doesn't seem as appealing. For headphone jack I never use mine since I have Bose QC35's and Bluetooth in my car, so it's just another waterproofing issue fixed if you ask me.
@Alexander Leblanc not how I meant for that to come accross. my cars a shitbox with a Bluetooth head unit and the QC35's I bought when they first came out to treat myself but those are easily 4 years old now. (Best purchase ever though!)
Asus screens and software support is horrible though. I also wanted to buy a ROG Phone 3 and this, but trust me, its bad. Just do your research. I really hope they'll improve, but for now it's pretty awful.
Great point Linus brought up in the end which is SUPPORT ! They must support it for at least 3 years if they really want to succeed with the market
The variable angle camera is obviously so you can takes timed photos so you don't have to worry about propping the phone up on something at the correct angle while you press the timer button and run to get into position.
1:27 pretty soon Apple won't even include a phone in the box, brave.
😂🤣😂
😂😂😂
Can we get a mic on the camera person so when the host asks for their opinion it can be audibly heard along with the subtitles?
They do the same dumb shit for TechLinked. Always have someone in the background screaming cause you can barely hear them. Pretty sure they have more than one mic, no idea why they don't just hook em up.
@@Dorraj they do that on purpose so they sound like a heckler. try watching it on a computer you disgusting mobile user, then perhaps you'd be able to appreciate it more
@@ikbendusan hey now, I'm on mobile and I'm not complaining, why are you attacking me? :(
@@justinedzard he's attacking the disgusting mobile users, not the good ones xD
@@nagarajanvaidya9266 but, I'm a snowflake, I'm sensitive. JK, my bad for misunderstanding
my galaxy xcover pro has one of those lock button fingerprint sensor by the way you should check out the galaxy xcover pro, 4000mah removable battery, waterproof, headphone jack, decent specs for the price.
I think the party trick would make a decent "waist-level viewfinder" I'm not sure when you'd actually want to use it, maybe to get everyone straight up-down in sport shots, but it is a thing some cameras have, mostly as a side effect of not having a pentaprism though.
5:59 I have a phone with a pop-up camera, and I really like the notchless experience =D
Definitely. I would never change back to a phone with a notch or holepunch.
I have the Razer phone with *_T H I C C_* 1 inch bezels
I had a BOLD N1, with a pop-up camera, but I had to get rid of it because it had utterly garbage battery life after a few months. A shame too... Now I rock a Moto G Power. If I could combine the two and get the best of both: stellar battery life, AMOLED screen, stereo speakers, pop-up selfie cam...
I have Mi 9T and so far the best smartphone display experience of all smartphones I've ever used. I just love how I see things where there's no interruption. No stupid notch nor punch hole.
3:15 "how does it know" -Linus
6:11 actually looks like a useful feature for looking inside a concealed space/behind something. Granted, that's a once a year problem, but since the phone can offer that feature without a down side, I don't see a problem.
Not gonna lie The thing where the camera turns how ever you want with the volume button is awesome in my opinion
