  • We know how mediocre we are as a team. Brad Scott asking bomber fans to prepare for some pain is like telling us we're wet when we're standing in the rain. We know already, but at least he's telling us the truth.

  • Sure, I'm frustrated as an Essendon fan, but that doesn't effect my grip on reality. We are well aware that our problems run deep and I personally have very modest hopes for this season. Finals would be an absolute bonus but certainly not what I'm expecting. Still love the team, will never stop loving em.

  • There's a culture issue at Essendon, Brad hinted this at the end of the season last year that players don't live an AFL lifestyle over there, they party, go out, fitness falls away easily. Start of the 2023 season they were top 4, they beat carlton, Melbourne, almost had collingwood on Anzac day, put up a fight against geelong at the G. Then suddenly, destroyed at GMHBA, absolutely annihalted by GWS, no where to be seen round 24 against Collingwood and barely beat North & WCE. Stamina, endurance and overall fitness is the issue. Both Mental and physical. Clearly stems from the players lifestyle. Essendon leaders set the precident, the young ones follow. They never play 4 quarters, they taper off towards the end.

    • More than half our list went to Arizona for an intense training camp a few months back to specifically work on improving fitness and stamina and it the whole thing was lead by the Captain and Vice-Captain. So lack of fitness and stamina really can't be used a excuse anymore.

    • He did very magical things when he was at North Melbourne by taking a pretty pretty average list to 2 straight Preliminary Finals back in 2014 and 2015 knocking out the likes of regular top 4 Geelong and Sydney in the process as well starting the 2016 season 9-0. Just keep in mind that club had all sorts of problems at Board room level even back then.

      @DunningKrugerJnr@DunningKrugerJnr2 ай бұрын
    • @@DunningKrugerJnrActually its because we outright refused to do any rebuild at all until pretty recently. 4 years ago to precise when we drafted 3 First Round picks in Cox, Reid and Perkins. Prior to that draft we mostly brought in loads of veterans such as Goddard, Chapman, Kelly, Cooney, etc that were past their primes and a bunch of decent players such as Stringer, Shiel, Smith, etc that we overpaid. Here and there we would still get high draft picks such as Heppel, Parish and McGrath when we had horrendous seasons but there was never any real push from the club itself to do a legitimate rebuild regardless until 2020. As a result we were always relying on the core of Watson, Stanton, Hocking, Zaharakis, Ryder, Hurley, Hooker from the late 2000's-early/mid 2010's and the core between and after them of Heppel, Merret, Parish, McGrath, Daniher, Redman, Langford, Ridley (who is easily our most important player) during the late 2010's to all get us Finals in 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2019. 2021 we somehow returned to Finals but in saying that the quality from 7th-11th that season was genuinely bad and we obviously got a massive reality check the following season.
